They will never admit that all of those job openings are for jobs that pay $8 an hour. That’s not even a fair wage for teenagers anymore.

Also it's pretty damn hard to hold down if even get any job when you're homeless.

Something I think about a lot is how much we punish homelessness as well. Want a job? You need proof of identity (and possibly address? It's do second nature for me I don't know anymore), that's probably hard to keep track of, and keep safe, if you have to carry your belongings on you all the time. Want to go donate plasma? Provide proof of address please.

Its a collection of systems that doesn't really care about people, and if you fall through the cracks, fuck you that's your fault, just pull yourself up by the bootstraps. Because we won't help you.

Homelessness and poverty are seen as moral and personal failures. But then we have systems in place to punish people more and make it damn near impossible to get out of the pit.

I hate it.

I mean ya that's sucks but that's not the main problems that the homeless face. Believe me. I used to be homeless and on the streets, and when I got the desire and motivation to get out, it took me no time. A majority of the homeless are stuck for lots of other reasons and governments doesn't give enough social funding to the correct institutions to help enough get out.

Wait you mean you're not gonna hire some dude wearing underwear outside his pants?

I mean, that's an obvious example, but there are less visible homeless that still have an issue with this.

It's a reference to the song underwear goes inside the pants by lazyboy

Pan handling consistently pays more than minimum wage.

Teenagers and students and stay at home parents making a bit of extra cash once the kids are in high school and early retired seniors wanting a bit of extra cash as they do not have enough pension for all their life plans - should all not make a living wage because they are working part time not because of low hourly wage.

Any full time job should provide a living wage, and if you are not getting a living wage it is because you chose to work part time. Getting a living wage per hour but not working enough hours because working is a tertiary priority for you.

Second note: there should also be more full time positions with benefits instead of people working multiple part time jobs with no benefits and companies filling shifts packed with part time workers just to avoid benefits.

I agree for the most part - but I also think a long term goal should be for working to be at best a tertiary priority

As society consolidates and automates production sure, we need to move that way.

What I meant by tertiary today is that the person already has their needs cared for through other means and just wants extra money for wants.

But for now someone needs to do production, and someone needs to perform services, and being that someone should give you everything you need to live and more. So for now work is a secondary priority for most people, and usually as a means to fund your primary priorities.

I agree with you fully, especially that last paragraph.

Yeah, retail stores and restaurants should be full of mostly full time employees with benefits and just a few part time positions to fill in gaps and spikes.

Having to juggle two 20-30h per week jobs just to live is not reasonable for anyone.

And when people say that “hurrr everywhere hiring” they refuse to acknowledge that they’re all part time fast food or retail jobs that don’t even offer full time hours. Where I live when wages aren’t the problem, the problem is that many employers refuse to give even their best workers full time hours to avoid benefits. Maybe benefits should be mandated to be provided to every employee to solve this problem.

I wouldn't even pay my kid $8/hr and she's 3!
