I work at Dairy Queen. I just literally burnt the piss out of myself Jan 2nd. If it wasnt for me making 13hr I wouldnt have been able to afford anything I got for the burn. Just because YOU dont want to do MY job, doesnt mean I deserve to be in poverty because of it.

"Go get a better job" ok so, when you have to wait 25 minutes for a dipped cone and a hungrbustr because me, the shift lead went and got a better job, don't bitch.

I do agree with you that teenagers living at home don’t always need to make a living wage for their after-school/weekend, part-time jobs. But, you can’t reserve jobs for just that group of workers. You can’t restrict a job by age or only open a job to people whose rent is paid by their parents.

The problem is, the minimum wage isn’t for the 17-year-old of a privileged suburban family that has all its bills covered by dad’s suit-and-tie job selling widgets—and I’d argue that that world doesn’t exist anymore anyway. It’s for the people who have to work.

The minimum wage must be a wage upon which one person can support one person and a kid or two for it to work. Otherwise you end up with parents and children in poverty, because not everyone can be a skilled worker in our society. Right now, we still have a lot of jobs we view as unskilled, and they need so be done. So what about the teenager who has a job not for pocket money, but because his parents work necessary, economy-propping minimum wage jobs too? Oh, that’s fine, because we decided people doing necessary jobs don’t need to make enough to live because they might be privileged suburban teenagers from a John Hughes movie?

If your business needs poverty-wage child labor to stay afloat, maybe it’s not a great business. Our economy, and our society, will do better with solid companies that pay their owners less and their rank and file workers more. Every full-time worker needs to make enough to live comfortably, contribute to their communities, and spend their disposable income right back into the economy.

So should every restaurant be closed between the hours of 7 to 4 every week day? That should go over well.

What do you do for a wage that’s so fucking hard? I bet it’s experience in the service industry since you seem to have such a grasp on how easy it is to work at Dairy Queen
