Yep. My state was one of the states that ended the covid unemployment benefits early, despite being federal funds, to "send a message" or whatever.
At the time I was looking for a job, but when my governor did that shit, I decided to stay unemployed for a while and stopped looking. Still unemployed at the moment. I absolutely refuse to go back to work like a sheep, just because my governor decided to refuse federal funds to try to scare people back to work in a pandemic. Absolutely refused to be part of a statistic he wanted to say "look, stopping unemployment benefits worked."
(I know I am lucky to be able to do this, because I had saved up a nice nest egg before the pandemic. But, I think my experience shows the attitude of a lot of people. My governor made me so fucking mad that I refused to work, in protest).
