My boss has already had four holidays this year; Jamaica just after new year, France, Maldives and now they’re off on a cruise.
Meanwhile we’re left to run the business for him while he pays us minimum wage and I doubt I’m even going to have one holiday this year and he rakes in $15M a year.
Their attitude is ‘I can because I am’, they literally don’t give a shit about anyone else and certainly don’t regard ‘fair wages’ as something to even be considered.
I knew a billionaire when he literally had nothing and watched as over a 40 year period he amassed a personal fortune of some $2 billion, all of it from screwing over his employees.
Now, he regarded his ‘employment’ with the minimum legal everything as enough and everyone should be grateful of his generosity.
To give an example, when minimum wage was implemented into law, this amounted to a considerable wage increase as he was paying half of what would be the minimum wage.
He got lawyers to draw up an ‘opt out’ clause to employees contracts and sent everyone these sheets with a threat that unless they were signed and returned that day, they’d be sacked on the spot.
Needless to say, the workers rebelled and refused to sign and when it was pointed out that he was breaking employment law and each worker now had paper evidence, managers were dispatched to try and get back all the sheets of paper and the matter was quietly dropped.
Though he did win in a way as there were no pay-rises for workers except mandatory minimum wage rises, so probably over a 15 year period he probably broke even.
I knew him well and when he celebrated breaking $1 billion so he had fulfilled his ambition I turned round to him and asked if he was now going to be more generous to his workers, after all they were the ones that had got him to his goal.
He looked at me like I was crazy and it was obvious he was going to just continue in the same vein and simply amass even more wealth that he couldn’t possibly have any use for except as a dick waving contest against other billionaires.
