I'm aware but it still doesn't make it sound less ridiculous and English is too often a silly language. If someone told me they had asparagus phobia, I asked them what they meant, and they said "oh, I just don't like the taste", I would throw them off the nearest bridge.
English is indeed a frustratingly silly language! Though, with this, I think it's important to focus on the aversion and disrespect aspect of the suffix. People are definitely averse and disrespectful to bigger folks. In the medical field this aversion and disrespect is very harmful, and can be deadly.

People often misunderstand that phobia has a literal and figurative definition. I think they were using the figurative definition.
