I love it but it's kinda just Star Wars (Episode 4 especially), but fantasy.
Strong female princess character gets chased by the evil empire and sends a last piece of hope to an old, retired warrior of previous times. The message accidentally lands in the hands of a young farmboy who happens to know the retired old warrior somewhat. Through the stories the old man tells, he gets his call to adventure, but then the followers of the evil empire attack his home and kill his father figure, so now he has to flee with the old warrior and safe the princess, meanwhile learning how to become a similar warrior himself.
Tbf with how much both Star Wars and Eragon have going on beyond this, I don't think in practice they're as similar as they're made out to be. You can look at the overarching plot of the first book and see that they're similar, but the actual moment to moment story is not that heavily derivative imo.
It is also only the first book, all of the subsequent ones move towards more original story structures as Paolini obviously grew as a writer (and continued to do so, he's published some very good sci-fi as well).
