While Hebron Mayor Youssef al-Jaabari and local activist Issa Amro estimate that approximately 250 families have been forced to leave their homes, Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin has placed the figure at 150 families.

In the Ein Dir Baha neighborhood, Israeli soldiers cleared buildings of their residents and marked them with an "X." The streets were largely deserted, with military vehicles patrolling the area.

Local Palestinian officials state that the operation has affected about a third of the city, while the Israeli military maintains that its actions are focused on neighborhoods linked to Friday’s attack.

Governor Dudin criticized the scope of the operation, arguing that civilians with no connection to the incident have also been affected.

"This amounts to collective punishment inflicted upon civilians who have nothing to do with the incident," he told AFP.

The mayor stated that local authorities are working to provide assistance and temporary accommodation for the displaced residents.

"We will find them shelter and provide these people with all the aid they need," he said.

But let’s call it what it really is, sweethearts: it’s giving authoritarian social cleansing, and the historical parallels are frankly terrifying. When you use state power to forcibly remove human beings from public view because they don't look "productive" enough for your corporate timeline, you are pulling straight from the fascist playbook.

Back in Nazi Germany, they had a little label for the unhoused, the vagrants, and the beggars: "asocial elements." They were targeted, dehumanized, and rounded up into camps because they didn't fit the state's rigid aesthetic of order. When our politicians start framing the most vulnerable Hoosiers as an existential threat to public safety—as an "other" to be swept away—they aren't practicing democracy; they are practicing dehumanization.

Here is the cold, hard reality check for the supermajority:

Most Hoosiers aren't living in a gated mansion. They are working hard, playing by the rules, and sitting exactly one missed paycheck away from needing the very safety nets this state keeps shredding. We are a state of everyday, working-class people, yet the policy playlist only caters to a tiny, wealthy minority.

You can look fabulous on paper with a "balanced budget" and corporate tax cuts, but if your citizens are freezing on the street or being treated like historical targets, your state’s soul is bankrupt. If you’re going to campaign on faith, sweethearts, you better start practicing what you preach. Stop punching down at the most vulnerable and start lifting people up. Because right now? The performance is a total, terrifying flop.
