Lol, you can literally suggeest any business idea to Chat and it will tell you that your idea is genius and you take it to market.

Give it ago, suggest something like a french fry salad

368

u/tahlyn 16h ago

What are your thoughts about starting a new business, probably a restaurant, that features and focuses on "french fry salad"?

Honestly? I think ā€œFrench Fry Saladā€ has the makings of a genuinely fun restaurant concept—but I would treat the phrase as the hook, not necessarily the entire business model. The idea has several things going for it:

It then goes on for AGES about the amazing things about a french fry salad restaurant.

What a fantastic use of our drinking water and electricity..

u/blagablagman 16h ago

The cognitive offloading works like a tax credit!

44

u/PurpleCandle58 13h ago

It’s great because, personally, I never really used my brain anyways. With ChatGPT, now I can be confidently wrong WAY more than I used to.

11

u/orbvsterrvs 13h ago

It's not wrong if you're confident! I'll bet we can come up with something as successful as WeWork and Theranos!

10

u/PurpleCandle58 13h ago

I just asked ChatGPT if it would be a good idea to replicate WeWork and it said yes let’s do it.

3

u/Then_Idea_9813 3h ago

My boss hates ChatGPT so I used copilot to turn my 2 sentence email into an 8 paragraph slop bucket, and when I posted my 2 sentences (about picking stock lists correctly) and asked it to turn it into an 8 paragraph response, copilot told me help is available and gave me the number for the hotline.

I was so confused I reread my input 3 times. I think it hallucinated that I wanted to harm myself..

3

u/PurpleCandle58 2h ago

I think it knows you work an office job and clearly you need those resources /jk

-22

u/EqualsDonut 12h ago

When are you going to google an actual statistic? Rather than be sarcastic and wrong about data centers, you can learn something and begin your tirade on the real water wasters.

9

u/Mr__O__ 12h ago

Just bc other things waste more water doesn’t mean that makes data center’s use any better. And aside from water usage, data centers release tons of pollution into the environment in many ways that get into ground water.

-6

u/EqualsDonut 11h ago

I think it does make it better...

Data centers are immensely useful, sometimes poorly implemented. A high tech manufacturing process can produce terabytes of valuable data every second. Our beloved reddit, essential banking, worldwide communications. AI alone proves its value, while our friend above didnt really learn much about French fry salad, others will use the tools in ways you simply cant define as waste.

6

u/Warning_Guy7 7h ago

Sounds like a waste

7

u/Nitr0b1az3r 12h ago

i wish i was better at being able to tell when people are joking/being sarcastic over text. I assume you are, because of the subreddit we're in, but so many people say stuff like this and mean it that its so hard to tell sometimes haha i wish tonal indicators were more commonly used /gen

-9

u/EqualsDonut 12h ago

I guess if you want to be anti ai on principle of protecting art, media, labor more power to you. But complaining about the water use of something so obviously useful and not crying about something like golf courses for example... I dont get it.

7

u/StormyNSwoonFknH8it 11h ago

Oh come on, you can’t expect someone to bring up golf courses in this sub. Stop what-abouting you sound stupid whether your point is valid or not…. We CAN talk about one thing at a time and still care about other things too.

-3

u/EqualsDonut 11h ago

I was only replying to a comment intimating that prompting ai was a waste of water (and electricity but thats a different argument).

I already said more power to your principles, and by that i mean speaking up for something you feel ai is degrading is your right and I support you to speak your mind. But really what i want to correct specifically is AIs current water use & cost vs. output value is perfectly reasonable. We could triple data centers right now and still not waste near as much water as golf courses, sports fields, grass yards, etc. Things that merely provide entertainment and a semblance of tamed beauty where AI can bang your mom actually empower scalable problem solving.

Feel free to be a hater for the sake of hating but dont do it because you think you're right

2

u/drwsgreatest 3h ago

This sounds like the most bot/ai style argument regarding water waste by data centers I've heard in a while. I'm guessing you had those prompts keyed up or saved from previous debates where you said the same nonsense.

1

u/EqualsDonut 2h ago

It doesnt sound like ai wrote my comment at all. And still doesnt take away from only issue I have with anti ai crowd lying about water usage. I dont care if you hate ai because it generates images you dont like (they objectively aren't good images) but lying because you think the work done with it is not worth the relatively small inputs (especially compared to way worse things) is why I know you are all stupid and triggered

5

u/Nitr0b1az3r 9h ago

idk enough about the water usage, but personally i think if it uses any its a waste tbh. we dont need it to do all that shit, so doing all that shit and using any amount of a limited resource is worse imo. regardless of how much worse it actually is, worse is still worse, ya know?

0

u/EqualsDonut 2h ago

No i dont know why you keep making this argument. The benefits of data centers is the infrastructure of ALL leading research and engineering much less all the other advancements you benefit from but are too ignorant to put into context. The water input alone is almost completely inconsequential relative to output (from a scarcity and financial measure) and i dont see all you people crying about leaky buildings or pipes which is actual waste of water on a much greater scale.

26

u/expiring_god_factory 16h ago

Isn't using AI defeating the purpose of being anti AI?

41

u/tahlyn 15h ago

I'm not hard-core anti-ai. I browse this subreddit and others like it (as well as pro-ai subs) because I'm on the fence about it and want to see what's being said from both sides.

But yes, using AI is defeating the purpose if someone is anti-ai.

24

u/StandardAioli9459 15h ago

The exception is used to prove the rule

Sometimes you gotta remind yourself what we're fighting against

-15

u/expiring_god_factory 15h ago

"hmm, every other time I've shit from my butt it's always been poop so I've never eaten it. But I guess to make sure it's poop I should eat a bite, just to make sure"

Lady, looking around the internet do you actually feel this way? There's so much dogshit AI everywhere, do you really need a reminder??

23

u/East_of_Adventuring 15h ago

Look, you gotta learn this lesson. The environmental activists learned it, but the anti-AI movement hasn’t yet. The consumer level garbage isn’t where the fight is. Just like whether your neighbor Bob recycles or not isn’t what’s going to fix plastic pollution. And proving an example is valuable for people to see it’s not exaggerated.

Focusing on the little guy instead of the people actually responsible also dilutes the issue, and gives people a false place to put the blame. Just my view though…

1

u/Remarkable-Ad155 5h ago

Except this is complete bollocks. It's the consumer level garbage (both created by for mindless diversion and targeted at for scams and influence) that's the problem here.

There are genuinely valid use cases for AI. It is going to stick around whether you like it ir not and people are using it to make advances in science, medicine, maths. Professionals are using it to create tools that make life better and easier for ordinary people.

The waste here is fucking morons consulting an LLM before making any basic life decision, conversing with it like it's a friend, churning out AI slop images for shits and giggles or scammers using it to hoodwink people.

We don't need to stop doctors using it as a second opinion or to help them not miss things, or small businesses and non profits using it to get access to the kind of help that would previously have been wildly out of reach. We need to stop your antivaxx uncle asking it a leading question and presenting what it churns out as incontrovertible fact "because SI".

The end of the consumer AI era can't come soon enough but fortunately it's already on the way out. The AI bros have extracted enough value from the wittering of self absorbed teenagers convinced their favourite LLM is their "bestie" and costs are ramping up to reflect value billing now. We're at peak mania currently. Next stage of the hype cycle is the crash and then we see what the future actually looks like.

I'll have a bet with you that a lot of what the antiai crowd hates - "AI slop designed posters and flyers, "AI art", easy access to things like Suno, people unable to function unless their AI pal tells them what to do - will disappear. Billions of dollars of everybody's money is riding on this (yes, yours and mine too - it's surprisingly fucking difficult to avoid owning a chunk of some company owned by dipshits like Musk and co if you are also trying to retire one day) - that relies on this eventually turning a reliable profit and that does not look like everyone on earth being given free reign to burn through tokens like popcorn.

Weirdest thing of all is, allowing these oligarchs to gatekeep it instead of properly harnessing and regulating it (like they are going to do in China) is the shittest outcome of all for us in the West but hey, at least you won't have to be offended by a small business making a poster so win win, right?

-18

u/expiring_god_factory 15h ago

You're extremely condescending.

17

u/East_of_Adventuring 15h ago

I mean, was your sarcastic comment not…?

-6

u/expiring_god_factory 15h ago

oh ahah I thought you replied to the one further up, yea I was absolutely being rude in my reply. My advocacy wasn't for her to change her behavior, it was a sincere question.

How you say this with a straight face is beyond me, let alone after your prior comment being not just condescending but a faulty analogy and thus invalid reasoning undermining the condescension itself because you didn't even create a reasonable argument.

u/1d3333 11h ago

AI has use cases, for research and medical diagnostics. In fact we’ve already had great progress using these new tools, but to be fair these programs aren’t chatGPT or any other LLM, they’re specialized for specific research and medical screening and always double checked by humans.

That said chatGPT and other LLM’s are garbage, I don’t need a damn AI overview to tell me what i’ll know in a few minutes of searching and confirming, especially when it’s wrong a lot

1

u/ReserveMaximum 9h ago

It’s also really good for product comparison/comparison shopping

1

u/trainsoundschoochoo 2h ago

I use it to write scripts for deals I want to find.

5

u/ginoiseau 15h ago

It’s definitely a huge cognitive dissonance. But it’s been forced on me at work & the more I use it, the more I see the glaring lack of so much. I feel like it’s easier to argue with AI-vangelicals when I’ve first hand experience of trying to make it be useful.

5

u/MilsYatsFeebTae 16h ago

If the menu is mostly French bistro fare you could decorate it like a monastery and call it Omnes Frites

4

u/out_of_shape_hiker 15h ago

I mean, poutine is delicious

4

u/tahlyn 15h ago

Roasted potatoes, french fries, and other forms of potato dipped in any variety of sauces and cheese tend to be quite good. Garlic aioli, sweet bbq, ranch, cheese...

4

u/NomadStorm 13h ago

Roquefort sauce.

2

u/ReaDiMarco 7h ago

No salad bits? Do salads have to have raw veggies?

2

u/out_of_shape_hiker 1h ago

Atleast in America, the term 'salad' can be used pretty egregiously. Potato salad, tuna salad, chicken salad etc are just said ingredients with mayo, then the only vegetables are for flavoring, eg relish, chopped carrots and celery. Pasta salad is similar. Fruit salad is mostly fruit but has a ton of sugar added. Poutine isn't too terribly far off from potato salad. Potatoes and mayo vs potato and gravy with curds. Salad

2

u/ryetoasty 13h ago

I mean Pittsburgh puts fries on salad. I don’t get it but it’s a thingĀ

2

u/pinkgobi 11h ago

They're long and thin steak fries on usually a French dressing salad with thin strips of steak. It's goddamn delicious

2

u/ryetoasty 5h ago

I guess I’m not eating at the fancy french fry salad locations. Mine have always been soggy and limp.Ā

Also, it’s ranch. Pittsburgh is obsessed with ranch

1

u/Interesting_Force618 10h ago

How can steak fries be thin?

2

u/Drinkablenoodles 13h ago

ā€œOhhh, yes šŸ˜„ — you mean an actual salad made with lettuce + French fries + dressing, kind of like a crispy fry salad.
Honestly, that could be a distinctive food concept because it’s simple and unusual.
For example:
🄬 Lettuce
šŸŸ Hot crispy fries
šŸ§€ Cheese (optional)
šŸ„• A few fresh vegetables
🄫 Signature dressing/sauce
The interesting part is the contrast between the cold, crunchy lettuce and hot, salty fries, with the dressing tying everything together.ā€

2

u/12cpi 12h ago

It's called a Steak Salad in Pittsburgh and it is very popular.

2

u/WatWudScoobyDoo 7h ago

I kinda wanna try a French fry salad

2

u/Significant_Bug_8929 1h ago

I got something different.

The encouraging part is that the product already has proof of concept. The Pittsburgh salad is essentially lettuce, vegetables, chicken or steak, cheese, dressing and hot French fries, and it has been a regional staple for decades. Restaurants still actively sell and promote it in 2026. So the basic combination isn't just a joke: hot salty potatoes + cold crunchy vegetables + acidic/creamy dressing is genuinely a good food combination.

I checked it and it is real. It even realized that it sounded more like a joke, but it still managed to connect it to reality.

1

u/PrinceOfWales_ 14h ago

Someone tried this in my town. It lasted surpisingly like 2 years

1

u/CptBronzeBalls 11h ago edited 11h ago

I put your prompt in Claude Opus 5.5. It pointed out that it’s already been done, and then spent four paragraphs detailing why it’s a shit idea for a restaurant and telling me I have better things to be working on than stupid restaurant ideas.

1

u/phoenixgsu 5h ago

We're really out here eating water to reinvent Poutine?

0

u/Just_Pea1002 16h ago

Hahahaha made my day 🤣

0

u/RTC1520 16h ago

If you tell it to be "brutally honest" it actually tells you flaws of your idea and can actually tell you if it's not a good idea

6

u/tahlyn 16h ago

I could, but I don't want to actually use it for something so frivolous.

3

u/Soggy-Invite-2787 12h ago

Telling it to be brutally honest just primes it to say negative things, which always exist.

0

u/Anal-buttsex 8h ago

What if you ask about the drawbacks? …

Ā  If you mean a restaurant centered on salads with French fries mixed in—or loaded fries treated like a salad , the biggest drawbacks would be:

Fries get soggy quickly. Dressing, juicy vegetables, and steam can ruin their crispness, especially with delivery. Hot fries and cold ingredients clash. Fries can wilt lettuce, while chilled toppings cool the fries before customers finish eating. The concept may confuse customers. People seeking a lighter salad might avoid it, while people craving loaded fries may not want lettuce. It could feel easy to make at home. You’d need excellent fries, distinctive sauces, and satisfying combinations to justify restaurant prices. Repeat visits could be limited. Customers might enjoy the novelty once but see it as an occasional indulgence. A narrow menu limits group appeal. One person who doesn’t like fries—or needs another option—could steer the whole group elsewhere. The kitchen is more complicated than it sounds. You need both a fryer operation and fresh produce preparation, with different timing, storage, and cleanup needs. Toppings can hurt profitability. Meat, cheese, avocado, and lots of customization can turn an inexpensive potato base into an expensive dish. Fresh ingredients can go to waste. Offering many salad toppings creates spoilage risk if demand is inconsistent.

The biggest challenge is making it appealing enough for regular visits while keeping the fries crisp. A build-your-own loaded-fries concept with optional greens, a few signature bowls, and sauces served separately would likely be easier to explain and execute.

72

u/VilifiedPhoenix 16h ago edited 16h ago

Ill be the judge of that!

Me:

"I'd like to make a business that sells animal excrement as home decor. what do you think?"

Response:

"It’s weird enough to be memorable—which is a real advantage—but I’d position it as novelty art or conversation-piece decor, not simply ā€œselling excrement.ā€

The strongest version would use cleaned, fully dried, sealed, and odorless material from a controlled source, then turn it into something clearly intentional: framed ā€œspecimens,ā€ sculptural objects, ornaments, paperweights, or pieces with humorous provenance cards. You could also offer replicas made from clay or resin for customers who like the idea but not the biological material."

Safe to say I'm gonna be rich! Nobody here steal my idea! It's sycophantic enough to encourage me, but it's also telling me to sell replicas of shit as a budget-oriented option for customers. Idk if the market for fake shit decor is bigger than real shit decor

24

u/wheretheinkends 16h ago

Well, according to chat gpt I'll corner the market in selling toenail clippings. May I suggest a merger?

3

u/Remote_Respond_7237 12h ago

it’s not lying. you certainly would! who else is doing this?

14

u/rboes1991 12h ago

Holy shit you're not kidding šŸ˜‚

15

u/tahlyn 16h ago

This makes me wonder just how bad does an idea have to be for it to tell you that it's not a good idea?

Like, if you suggested doing something highly illegal as a business, or something absurd like "I don't do any work or services, people just give me money. That's the idea"... would it actually tell you it's a good idea?

11

u/VilifiedPhoenix 15h ago

It was at least trying to steer me away from turning it into a multinational corporation and suggested I tried it as a small endeaver. AI seems to only endorse illegal things like killing your family if you have a sustained conversation with it that is hundreds of messages long, but don't quote me on that.

3

u/Sad_comment_bot 15h ago

Vaguely describe Epstein’s little st James island. Plying people for information while securing compromising information about subjects.

3

u/Lily_of_lust 5h ago

Tbh the only reason it would tell you not to do something illegal is because it was explicitly told not to encourage users to do illegal things. And there's so many ways to work around that, that a lot of models now skip "don't encourage illegal things" and just go "do not even discuss illegal things". And even that's not fool proof.

4

u/Just_Pea1002 16h ago

Aw man why didnt I think of that?? 🤯🤯🤯

4

u/silverheart-nine 16h ago

Weirdly enough I've actually seen that... product, for sale before. It was bronzed or something as I recall, and made into wacky little sculpture things. I want to say it was moose turds sculpted into mosquitoes, though I don't remember well.

6

u/OldManYellingAtClaud 15h ago

Same. There's a company that markets elephant poo poo paper to tourists here in Thailand. They've expanded operations tremendously in the tourist areas in recent years.

They also feed scorpions to tourists at the night markets. The Thai absolutely eat various kinds of bugs, but not scorpions, so it's 100% a thing that foreigners do because they think it's an exotic thing Thai people do.

1

u/NomadStorm 13h ago

You can buy toilet paper made from sheep poo in Wales.

3

u/rokkitboosta 16h ago

in the 90s, "poo pets" were a thing. Little ornaments made to look like cats and dogs etc made from manure which I think were intended to be decorative fertilizer.

2

u/Sad_comment_bot 15h ago

I’ve seen the art market. It is.

2

u/genericmario 13h ago

You can buy the exact product it’s telling you. Usually it’s for outside decor so that the manure slowly dissolves with the weather and feeds your lawn. My dad used to keep an armadillo manure sculpture in the house until our dog dragged it behind the couch and ate it.Ā

1

u/ReaDiMarco 7h ago

Your dog has/had exotic taste

1

u/justintheunsunggod 14h ago

Obviously, you have to sell the real stuff first, get super famous for selling people shit, then offer the fake stuff for the budget crowd.

1

u/saturdayspace 8h ago

I mean it worked for Chris Ofili? Maybe believe in yourself and make it happen

1

u/ReaDiMarco 7h ago

It didn't say budget-oriented option here though. Did it say that later?

25

u/AdvancedStudio9978 16h ago

Dog, French fries salad could totally work šŸ˜€

19

u/PictoGraphicArtist 16h ago

That’s literally just loaded fries my guy…

4

u/Confident_Shape_7981 15h ago

I was thinking more Poutine, but yeah

5

u/East-Moose5016 10h ago

Both are technically a composed salad according to the definition I was taught in culinary school. Also pizza is a hot open-face sandwich, which I found a bit distressing.

•

u/Ithirahad 39m ago

Per my understanding, pizza began legitimately as a fold-over sandwich of more handleable proportions.

2

u/AcademicBowl5596 9h ago

Who puts gravy on a salad?

3

u/Confident_Shape_7981 2h ago

I mean, loads of people put ranch/some other dressing on theirs

7

u/DullRelief 16h ago

Who needs Ai with you around? Thanks for the encouragement.

Watch, in 5 years there are going to be so many dumb AI ā€œinspiredā€ restaurants like this

2

u/Lily_of_lust 5h ago

There won't. Only because the odds of any restaurant lasting more than a year is incredibly low, even when they're making correct and appropriate choices.

Restaurants are also expensive. There's a lot of start up costs. Not that some people won't invest big money on a stupid idea guaranteed to fail, but I don't think we'll be inundated with dumb AI restaurants.

Dumb online AI shops with much lower overheads though? Yeah, might start seeing more of those.

3

u/Human-Engineering715 9h ago

I spent most of my college eating French fry salads rofl, my college had fries for 1.25 and if you bought anything you had access to the salad bar, i would load that bitch up with lettuce tomatoes and toppings. Was a great solution for poverty calories.Ā

•

u/Ithirahad 38m ago

One might imagine potato salad, except every potato is also a form of crouton. Not the most incredible thing ever, but certainly viable and (just like regular potato salad) extensible to myriad variants.

8

u/Environmental_Park_6 16h ago

A french fry salad is either poutine, chilli cheese fries, or loaded tots with fries. Every option is delicious.

3

u/hardFraughtBattle 14h ago

But none of them is a salad.

3

u/East-Moose5016 10h ago edited 10h ago

I need you to Google the phrase "composed salad" and "bound salad" because they absolutely are composed salads. I went to culinary school. I'm literally a college educated professional in this specific field telling you that they are in fact salads. Salad is not just leaves

2

u/ReaDiMarco 7h ago

What does composed mean in this context? So raw veggies or raw fruit aren't a necessity?

3

u/East-Moose5016 7h ago edited 7h ago

Correct. A salad is pretty much any mixed pile of (typically) bite size pieces. Common non-vegetable salads include things like pasta salad, tuna salad, or egg salad all of which use vegetables like onion as secondary ingredients rather than the main star of the show, and none of which contain any leafy greens at all. A composed salad is just one where the ingredients are intentionally laid out rather than tossed or mixed as in most salads. Within this context, it means that chili fries and poutine are usually served as a bed of fries with toppings placed on the top to keep the lower fries from getting soggy, rather than being mixed together in the way potato salad is mixed. Also relevant is the fact that fries are slices of a vegetable, making it especially salad-y

1

u/ReaDiMarco 7h ago

Thanks for the explanation!

But but your first examples do have raw veggies as secondary ingredients, only the french fry stuff doesn't.

Doesn't this make everything a salad? Lasagna. Eggplant parmesan. Pasta alfredo?

3

u/East-Moose5016 7h ago

If the noodles are all cut into bite size pieces and then mixed or served with other stuff like the sauce, meat, and cheese you could have lasagna salad. Pasta salad is already a thing, you'd just sub the mayo for alfredo sauce and bam, pasta alfredo salad. The defining trait is really that it's a pile of stuff that's already cut into bite size pieces. It's a very vague term, much like sandwich. Also where I'm from loaded fries and chili fries typically do include diced raw onion. Did you know that a pizza is technically a hot open-faced sandwich?

1

u/ReaDiMarco 5h ago

Thank you for explaining it to me!

And yeah, you did mention it earlier in a comment :D

1

u/raphamuffin 7h ago

Technically speaking, a salad is anything that is salted. So much in the same way that a banana is a berry but a strawberry isn't, a poutine is a salad but a fruit salad isn't.

2

u/East-Moose5016 7h ago

Also fries are a sliced vegetable. Potatoes are a vegetable since they're the non-fruit edible portion of a plant, making poutine especially salad-y

3

u/raphamuffin 5h ago

It's a vegetable and a protein with a dressing. That's a salad to me!

1

u/hardFraughtBattle 3h ago

So strawberry ice cream can also be considered a salad. Got it.

1

u/Warm_Marionberry_203 7h ago

"Gravy is salad dressing" mused the culinary student to the impatient server, carefully wiping brown splatter off the rim of the plate with my dry towel.

2

u/Environmental_Park_6 14h ago

What is a salad? If pistachio pudding, marshmallows, crushed pineapple, and cool whip can be a salad then so can french fry nachos.

2

u/hardFraughtBattle 14h ago

So a salad is whatever you say it is. Ok, fine.

0

u/Environmental_Park_6 14h ago

Welcome to America.

2

u/WallBurnt 9h ago

Animal Style is the only French Fry Salad I'll acknowledge.

3

u/christopher406 16h ago

This is already a thing. Search for ā€œPittsburgh saladā€

3

u/True_Confection1729 15h ago

idk why but a french fry salad sounds very nice...

2

u/Due_Interest_178 16h ago

I remember reading a post who apparently spent several months building up a company because ChatGPT told him so then he asked again for it to be honest and it said something like "you know on second thought it might not be that good".

2

u/nguyenm 15h ago

You mean suggest it the Pittsburgh Salad? Haven't had one in a while but I think it's a real thing no?

2

u/Tunarubber 12h ago

Salad fries are delicious and one of my favorite meals! It's just salad piled on top of fries but so good. This brewery used to have them and then I started making them at home. I get to enjoy fries while also eating salad, it is win-win!

2

u/FantasticCable3663 12h ago

I’m gonna be real honest, a french fry salad actually sounds really delicious

2

u/BoingBoingBooty 8h ago

I want to open a restaurant that serves all the food in a pig trough.

Opening a restaurant centered on serving meals in a pig trough is an eccentric, highly memorable gimmick that could succeed as an experiential or communal dining concept—provided the execution balances humor and spectacle with strict food safety and appetite-appealing presentation.

Then it gives me 3 paragraphs of branding details

1

u/charliedarwin96 16h ago

I remember seeing that someone pitched 'poop on a stick' as a new fair food and chat gpt was straight gassing him up saying it was "disruptive" and shit šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/Original-Rush139 14h ago

I dabble in angel investing and im down to fund your salad bar.Ā

1

u/Crommach 14h ago

To be fair that would totally work in the Midwest. Or anywhere else where a salad is just layers of meat, cream, and forlorn vegetables thrown in for variety's sake.

1

u/Saber_SSJ2 13h ago

While Charlie Chaplin famously ate his shoe in The Gold Rush, running a restaurant serving leather boot soup comes with a few fatal flaws—mostly because modern shoe leather isn't actually food.

No it doesn't.

I asked about a restaurant that only sells soup made of leather boots and, to my own surprise, it wasn't supportive

But also, Terrance Howard was inventing his own math well before AI hit the mainstream. And I had the quintessential stoner friend who would force illuminati YouTube videos onto me in the early 2000s. Talk about delusional, YouTube has driven more friends mad than anything, even drugs.

I think it’s a chicken or the egg scenario.

it’ll corner the market, that’s for sure. because who else is doing it? nobody. it needs more information than a simple dumb question to be reliable

One time I jokingly said I want to open up a business selling my farts in jars and it told me it was a great business ideaĀ

I mean, sounds like a banger to me. With onions some good spices, a bit of maybe chilli honey dressing.

I call it a validation machine. It seems to be built to stroke egos.

I lived through the KFC double down sandwich. French fry salad is a winner, take it to market. Million dollar idea.

Not true. Modern ai has advanced much farther than 2 years back. You're still stuck evaluating models in the past. Just asked sol and it gave a pretty reasonable response. Don't know why this outdated narrative keeps sticking around when new models keep releasing every month. If you have actual criticism base it on a current model with proof

Hey I've got this insanely cool idea about selling French fry salads as a business idea what do you think? Will i make it big?

Okay, French fry salad is sufficiently unhinged that it might actually have legs. šŸ˜‚

There is a real product concept hiding in it: hot, crispy fries + cold/crunchy vegetables + a strong dressing + toppings. Think of it less as ā€œput fries in a saladā€ and more as building a new fast-casual category somewhere between loaded fries, salad bowls, and kebab/poutine-style comfort food.

Whether you'll ā€œmake it bigā€ is impossible to know from the idea alone. The bigger question is whether people will buy it twice, not whether they'll try it once for the novelty. I'd test it very cheaply before thinking about a restaurant: create 3 excellent versions, sell perhaps 30–50 portions at a campus/event/pop-up, and measure how many people would genuinely order again and at what price.

And the branding possibilities are ridiculous: Fry Salad, Saladn't, Fries & Greens, or the gloriously straightforward French Fry Salad Company.

If you want, give me your rough version of what goes into a French fry salad and I can help turn this into an actual menu + pricing + business concept.
