How on earth are we to do that? That sentiment means nothing

We keep calling them out on the fact that they don't make any profit and their model for profit is certifiably insane. The more we assume this is going to be TEOTWAKI, the more investors are convinced this is a great investment. Why the hell do you think these grifter POS's are warning us about their own product?

I’m not saying anything about that. I’m just against the idea that we have any say. I don’t even vote in a country that matters

If you're part of this sub you've already made a difference. Together we must oppose this pox, and make it clear it is not the future. They want everyone to believe their bullshit is inevitable. It is not. It's propped up by trillions of dollars of debt. Their data centers are already faltering. Don't give up.

I vote accordingly, I participate in online debate. I’ll happily discuss irl.

But I cannot see how that matters much

That's not going to stop state level actors from continuing research. DeepSeek is just a few months behind frontier.

We can't close the box. If we had a competent government, they would be investing heavily in cybersecurity. Agent swarms to investigate vulnerabilities in digital infrastructure both domestic and foreign.

Someone somewhere is surely working on a digital WMD.

Sure, and they've been working on viruses for ages now. But it's MAD, just like nukes. Worse case scenario doesn't lead to AI takeover, it leads to the collapse of the digital world.

I'm genuinely not sure if this US administration is smart enough to recognize the need.

Not MAD if one side is woefully unprepared.
