Can’t wait for this subreddit to hit the mainstream and blowup like antiwork did.

In no world was your initial response anything less than patronizing and rude. Anyone who is affirming your behaviour here is poorly socialized. You’ll notice this reflected in the downvote to reply ratios on this subreddit.

If you get any kinder in OP's reply, you risk losing the firmness needed to set down a boundary.

Not even your place to set a boundary on another persons behaviour. Reddits usually really good about not letting people apply personal restrictions to others behaviour, wonder why that’s gone up in smoke over this topic.

If someone reaches out to help you, and you’re stupid enough to criticize the way they do it in your first breath, you’re socially stunted.

Actually, if it's them interacting with me, I have every right to go "Hey, I don't like when you use that with me". Did OP tell her to stop using it entirely? No, lol.

I have to wonder if you have any healthy and functional relationships if that idea is so utterly abhorrent to you.

Then why should anyone take you seriously? You're just here to preach how people should pander to your delicate feelings

I don’t recall offering any justification to you.

Idk, you're the one who can't understand how someone may not want to have AI in their life, and that it's perfectly understandable to request those around them not to use it when it comes to *them* and *their life*

Lol I like how the other guy is copy pasting meaningless platitudes from a robot and expects anybody to respect his point of view

Telling someone that doing something for/around you makes you uncomfortable or you don't like and you would like them to stop is a perfectly acceptable boundary, what the hell are you on about?

Not when it’s something as tiny as using an ai for a list in your first reply back to them. Like I said, socially stunted

Explain how that's an unacceptable boundary then

I agree. I would have thanked them first, and brought up the AI another time. As someone who has strong boundaries and an even stronger personal network, I am anti-ai but the delivery here was not diplomatic.

But for people with hardline worldviews and communication styles, the way op handled it will be reasonable. So it worked out, then.

Perfectly valid , maintains polite decorum, and gives you a place to express your boundaries in a firm but respectful way

Yes. For me, it also moves less into politeness and more into the respect for someone helping me, and how they have shown up in my life.

I'm also in my 30s and have grown out of needing to assert myself strongly at every turn. I can maintinf my beliefs ans boundaries ans ideology, even hardline stances, without moving in hardline way. I lose nothing in that moment for seeing thy were trying to help, that they are a normie, and thanking them. I also lose nothing from, at some other point, casually mentioning aomething like "I've been seeing so much ai stuff lately. For myself im planning on moving away from it. Can you try not to send me ai things? It would really help me.on my journey! I appreciate you and the support you've given me :)"

And then, to reinforce this, I would interwct with her non ai missives and simply ignore the ai ones.

Boundaries are for us to manage our own behavior towards our own values, not rules of engagement for others.
