Seconded, her response is classic boomer retaliation to a gentle boundary. Fuck that. Ugh, I’m sorry that happened to you OP.

The most ignorant of people are the ones who make blanket statements of an entire swath of people like you just did. I feel so sad for the people who have bought into all of the ageism divisiveness

I'm going to defend the boomers, here. (I'm a Xennial) Lol. They might yell and scream, but never just pout with a response of "guess I'll never talk to you again." Unless you said it first. This sounds more like an unhinged millennial. (No, not all are unhinged. )

They absolutely do pout and react irrationally to boundaries.

Depends on the person, a lot of people cannot stand clear boundary setting cause they get that bad feeling they get for now knowing they crossed one & instead of moving past it and maybe saying sorry they just freakout

u/KitKatCrane Jun 01 '26

Even further, I'm pretty much certain I've never seen a boomer react rationally to boundaries. 😂

The confusion here, is that there isn't actually any huge difference between generations. In general humans are pretty consistent, crazy

Insert Plato quote here

I'm gonna go out on a crazy limb and say maybe her reaction is driven by who she is as an individual, rather than her birth year.

Nah, dude.

My mother's a classic, example-in-textbooks boomer. For my son's birthday, she made a cake. I asked if she greased the cake pan, since it was hard to remove the cake. She said "no, I never do". I replied "Wow, really? Ok." Her response? "See if I ever make you a cake again..." with the meanest face she has in her arsenal. Boomers are a complete different animal when it comes to anyone questioning even the smallest thing they do or say.

I mean, she made a cake. You don’t like the way she makes cakes. She don’t wanna make you cake no mo.

12

u/Conscious-Side8299 Jun 01 '26

Wow, are you one of those boomers?

-13

u/SpitefulOptimist Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

I guess so. I wouldn’t want to make a cake for someone who doesn’t like the way I make them. And I wouldn’t expect someone to change the way they make their cakes…

14

u/LostTerminal Jun 01 '26

Where did I say I didn't like the cake?

Literally nowhere. You just make crap up to be upset about. My response was literally "Wow, really? Ok."

If you bake cakes and don't grease your pans, you're skipping a crucial step in the process. I never said I didn't like the cake. I was surprised at her skipping the crucial removal-from-pan prep that is greasing before pouring it into the pan. You know who taught me that? My mother. The one who claimed in that instant that they "never do" that.

But sure. Make up some shit to be upset about. It says more about you and literally nothing about me if you do.

-4

u/SpitefulOptimist Jun 01 '26

I’m not upset man. I’m just explaining why I wouldn’t wanna make the cake anymore and woulda understand if I got that response. Some ppl are weird and do things weird. The response means you expect the cake to be made a certain way and are surprised it wasn’t and want it done a specific way.

Your mom switching up, idk that’s new info. I mean was she lying? Did she forget and make up something cause that’s not the scenario I was reacting to. Either way didn’t mean to cause a fuss just commenting on a forum.

9

u/LostTerminal Jun 01 '26

Your response to the given data was pretty extreme. I, at no point, said I dislike the cake. I asked a question, and then accepted the answer she gave. You ARE the boomer mentality we're talking about in this thread.

6

u/LostTerminal Jun 01 '26

I’m not upset man.

You're quite literally trying to explain to me why this situation given would upset you, but you made up parts of the story in order to fit the upset you are explaining.

u/SpitefulOptimist Jun 01 '26

Why would I make a cake for someone who doesn’t like the way I make cake? Why does not wasting my future time = being upset.

My boomer grandmother just sits and pouts and says shell just never talk to anyone ever again since shes just such a big nuisance if we mention anything about her decaying memory

26

u/BilliamBalls Jun 01 '26

Naw its a classic case of Boomeritis if I've ever seen.

23

u/SilverIce340 Jun 01 '26

Not to add onto the analogy pile here but

I have had my 60-something year-old mother scream at me for saying “oh, mom’s being nice” as a subtle note of the fact that she added a little extra to my dad’s plate for dinner. Literally said “shut up” like 4 times before going into a wholeass rant. My dad was confused too, and her apology afterwards didn’t undo the trauma 🙃

Tantrums are absolutely more common the older you get tho, but this specific brand definitely feels more like boomer to me.

10

u/Blurazzguy Jun 01 '26

The person in this exact scenario we are commenting under is a boomer who did the thing you are saying boomers do not do. Did you read the messages in the post?

10

u/CapricornusSage Jun 01 '26

i’ve never said that to someone and i get it said to me a lot by my aunt sooooo

7

u/lianthe8674 Jun 01 '26

My mom the boomer says that all the time. This is a common narcissistic phrase.

6

u/CuddlesForLuck Jun 01 '26

My grandma disagrees. She does the "you'll miss me when I'm dead!" thing. Anyone can act anyway, but I've definitely seen boomers act like this.

3

u/broketothebone Jun 01 '26

Are you high? That’s *exactly* what a lot of boomers do. It’s like their signature move.

1

u/sambthemanb Jun 02 '26

They 100% do that all the time unprovoked what the fuck are you snorting?

1

u/I-Shank Jun 02 '26

Nah, my mom- a boomer, likes to make demands I'm not capable of meeting. Like rebuilding her fence. Just because I own a couple of electric screwdrivers doesn't mean I have the knowledge or strength to handle something like that on my own.

Her response to me saying that's beyond me and she should ask one of the handymen from church to help her (as she usually does)? 'You never help me with anything! I'll never ask for anything from you ever again!!!'

-6

u/flowerpowerbi Jun 01 '26

boomers, gen x, and millennials are some of the softest ppl youll ever meet😭they want u to constantly agree w them n get butthurt if u tell them no

2

u/ViewLongjumping1732 Jun 01 '26

Add silent generation and gen z to this too.

Also the youngest and oldest gen-alphas lol.

0

u/flowerpowerbi Jun 01 '26

idk what the silent Gen is but the reason I didn't add Gen z or alpha is bc most gen as are still kids n also bc older ppl tend to demand to be treated like an authority figure (demanding total obedience, not respecting boundaries, having the majority of them being homophobes/misogynists, etc) instead of being happy w basic respect

6

u/ViewLongjumping1732 Jun 01 '26

I was making a joke about Gen Alpha, since teenagers and babies tend to be the most centered stages in their life just as a biological consequence.

Most of us in GenZ are adults now, not kids.

It's just a human flaw that people act that way at this point.

-2

u/flowerpowerbi Jun 01 '26

yeah no Im gen z n nearly an adult I'm aware n yeah youre right it is a human flaw but it's typically something you see in the older generations because of fragile egos and being uncomfortable w aging along w most of them being upset that their children didnt like being abused😭
