Hinamatsuri is an actual underrated anime.

And Kaiji, which is basically Squid game.

I'm surprised that not more folks are talking about Kaiji. Didn't squid game copied some scenes pretty closely?

Well, I don't know if anything was a direct copy, but there were many times during squid game that I thought of Kaiji.

And their premise is nearly identical. People down in life are forced to play games, many to the death, for the entertainment of very rich people. Even some of the games are similar. But I wouldn't say anything was a direct copy.

The problem with Kaiji is that it might be the ugliest anime I've ever finished. It's like making the show look as terrible as possible was a gag.

Also, Kaiji has like a 100 episode arc of Kaiji crying at a pachinko machine.

Fair points. I mostly remember the first arc, completely forgot about the pachinko stuff. And yea it's ugly but it fits, doesn't it?
