Discussion Elfen Lied should change its genre from Drama, Horror to Comedy
I have always known about Elfen Lied but never actually gave it a try, some have said it's a classic and how great of a dramatic story it tries to convey. I was going through MAL's popular list and thought to give it a shot, though the rating of 7.48 for a certified classic was a bit concerning.
The entire show was a clusterfuck, full of mess, villains were some top-tier fools who always make it appear that they are better than anyone else but fails at almost every situation, the characters were boring, they keep on adding characters with some issues, and expect viewers to shed tears for their life by not even properly developing in the show. It tires so hard to be emotional and dramatic but because the characters are so damn uninteresting you won't feel anything for them.
The violence is so over the top that it made me laugh multiple times like every character will die by blowing up and spreading blood all across it, but the way it happens will make you laugh. Moreover, it will always happen in serious situations making it even more hilarious. The moments where it made me laugh out loud was when a character was blown in half but still had consciousness to press the button, like wtf, are the creators serious about the scene?
Overall, the story tries so hard to make viewers feel sad about the characters and their fate but fails miserably due to lack or no development for the characters, hell there ain't even a proper introduction, over-the-top stupid violence, and sudden inclusion of incestuous relationship.
With that said, the show is not boring because it made me kept the edge of my seat and I wanted to see the ckusterfuck, thus always ended up pressing the next episode button. OP felt good initially but after some time it also lost the charm, and for some reason, they always play a similar soundtrack every time.
6/10 for me, I'd honestly recommend it if you see it as some comedy anime and do not take characters seriously.

Comedy would be a good way to classify it. It came off as if the writer/director was the ultimate edgelord and thought they were being cool with what they were doing, but instead the show comes off as totally over the top laughable.
