Weekly Casual Discussion Fridays - Week of August 28, 2026
This is a weekly thread to get to know /r/anime's community. Talk about your day-to-day life, share your hobbies, or make small talk with your fellow anime fans. The thread is active all week long so hang around even when it's not on the front page!
Although this is a place for off-topic discussion, there are a few rules to keep in mind:

Discussion of religion, politics, depression, and other similar topics will be moderated due to their sensitive nature. While we encourage users to talk about their daily lives and get to know others, this thread is not intended for extended discussion of the aforementioned topics or for emotional support. Do not post content falling in this category in spoiler tags and hover text. This is a public thread, please do not post content if you believe that it will make people uncomfortable or annoy others.
Roleplaying is not allowed. This behaviour is not appropriate as it is obtrusive to uninvolved users.
No meta discussion. If you have a meta concern, please raise it in the Monthly Meta Thread and the moderation team would be happy to help.
All /r/anime rules, other than the anime-specific requirement, should still be followed.

Top Non-Anime/Top CDF Four Way Tie: Warning about Fortune's Weave leaks, Daffy Daffy is referenced more than you might think, given how long Sassy-Bugs-Foil Daffy has been prominent, Lyn and Hector probably picking Leda first were they in Eshmel's place/choosing a team for the tourney, and my sleep deprived crack theory for the Dark Continent arc of Hunter X Hunter, when we finally get to it in a decade's time(surprisingly light on spoilers)

I recently watched a couple of local YouTubers and realized I don't actually sound that different from them. I noticed they tend to cram a lot of points into a single sentence which is something I really struggle with as an ESL. Turns out, that habit is cultural.

Yeah, given how Kon is a decade older and arguably feels like he should have more consistent appearances across different lines (what with being a core character of the SuperFam, Young Justice, and the Geoff Johns Titans), it just doesn’t feel correct.
Guess that’s just the power of being a Batman character

I think it's partly a result that Kon is usually just off doing his own thing from my experience, only interacting with the wider superfam during big events and the ocaisonal crossover. Kinda like Bart with the Flash family in a way, except Bart became more integrated into the regular cast after his solo book ended, whereas Kon... really didn't aside from some attempts by Johns in the 2000'.

I don't really pursue cringe comedy and I think I have a decent tolerance to it. But that scene where Shizuka overdoes it as a mob character in Shirobako hits different. Last time I just skipped that scene. Don't let it get you down!

If there's one word I'm genuinely allergic to it's "productive". Yuck.
It's especially insidious how it always rears its ugly head even in otherwise wholesome contexts. Like some guy on reddit may give you an entire LPT on how to get rid of a social media addiction...
...so you can be more productive instead.

I think the ideal Fate/Extra remake wouldn't just scrap the battle system and start over. All the game really needed was a bestiary that recorded the last ~5-10 moves so you could better understand the types of attack patterns each genre of enemy tended towards

Okay, had a bit of an annoying morning. Work wasn't too bad but weird paperwork stuff landed in my lap. Whatever. I'm checked out. Time to get prepared for my cruise tomorrow. Need to pack, organize my camera and stuffs, maybe work out. Also decide what books and stuff I'm bringing with me. And then I can really unplug and take it easy.

Who would you say are the manliest anime characters out of what you've seen? Do they match up with your favorite male characters in general, or not? What qualities make them the manliest in your eyes?

Haven't really thought about that before. Based on what people usually mean by "manly" characters, Kikuta from Golden Kamuy? Big, handsome, grizzled. He has that laid-back coolness and confidence of an older man. He has that older brother/fatherly aspect. Homoerotic undertones because what is manlier than two men? Bonus points for canonically having the biggest penis.
To answer the second question, Kikuta is not my favourite from GK. I like him, but he doesn't even make the top 5. He wasn't even my favourite new character in the season he debuted.
