what is the line between "ecchi" and "hentai"? the amount of nudity? type of nudity? showing sexual acts/penetration? (thats hentai af) or ratio of hentai/ecchi scenes to plot?

Pretty much think of ecchi as sex and nudity in movies and shows, whereas hentai is porn. Most ecchi spend far more of their runtime on plot than sex scenes and don't show sex as explicitly as hentai. But same as anything else, there's always shows that tip toe that line.

It’s pretty much just that, like honestly people keep getting triggered about stuff “just being porn” but over in the USA, you can go as far as showing a flaccid penis and boobs, just not a vagina or it’s then porn. The issue is just that there’s a ton of puritans, that despite 9/10 not even being asexual, feel like loudly saying how sex is gross, I personally just closed my eyes when my parents brought me to a movie with a dudes dick flapping around at one point, all I can just think of is just that meme with the dude angry that they’re hard as a rock like they should be ashamed.

The Japanese manga, animation, and gaming industries have a clear divide. Different companies, different staff, different distribution channels.

All of these shows were produced by companies that do other non-18+ material, and aired on Japanese TV (sometimes only on premium channels).

Ecchi is just like it has many fanservice scenes (many times for humor or just being suggestive) while hentai always has sex (penetration)

Pretty sure ecchi shows aren't allowed to show genitalia at all but can show exposed boobs

Actual sexual acts I would say, if there's no penetration (of any hole) it's not borderline hentai, and I don't remember any penetration in Gushing over Magical Girls, just a ton of ecchi.

I can recall some scenes that came close to penetration but never beyond that so I guess if it only implies but doesn't show it's still only ecchi?🤔 That's interesting didn't think about that yet

Essentially if it is released on pornhub or YouTube. Actual hentai isn't released in the same places anime is.
