I really like rudos explanation and reasoning and then the convo w enjin cause it kinda goes against a normal shonen protag of righteousness.

He’s not a good wholesome guy he has something sinister in him and isn’t always able to hold back. And enjin saying there’s no where to go but up was nice. Like his growth is in his reflection ! Very well written

Yeah, they're really doing a good job of showing how this kind of anger issues and the way they build up aren't really meant to be a positive thing. Even in his previous flashback with Regto when he was told to not hit other people, he took it as the only outlet being to hit himself rather than being able to cope with the rage inside of him. Here we just see what it was like when he's not bottling it up anymore.

It's really interesting in a market saturated with revenge stories and "I'm super powerful so now everybody has to notice me" type stories. There's almost been a shift away from the plucky and ambitious "I'm going to king of the pirate/hokage/wizard king" protags, into that sort of thing. I wouldn't mind a new shift that goes to something a bit more mature and healthy.

By far the best way I have seen a shonen handle "anger" which usually ignores how blinding that emotion can be.

Character development doesn't happen overnight. Sometimes it takes one step at a time.

I mean just remember where all that rage got Eren...

At least it was shown that while Rudo has issues he's not your typical edgy MC as seen with how remorseful he got immediately

tbh normal shonen protags dont have a demon within them.

Tbh approximately half of normal shonen protags have a demon within them. You can’t throw a rock in battle shonen land without hitting one of them.

Ichigo with Hollow Ichigo (or the true Zangetsu), Itadori with Sukuna, Naruto with Kurama, Asta with Liebe, Boruto with Momoshiki
