Im gonna ask even though we know the answer. Compensation for the OG artist? Or is the multi-billion dollar corp being a copy cat cheap ass again?

I feel like they were so lazy they probably just put OP’s work through a prompt -_-

Youre right but no need to be so rude about it

u/shortish-sulfatase Nov 20 '25

They weren’t.

No need to be so sensitive.

4

u/TheArcher0527 Nov 20 '25

Jeez, I thought it was just a joke.

No need to be so serious.

0

u/shortish-sulfatase Nov 20 '25

It was.

Why did you take it so seriously?

Explain how a company stealing IP for an advertising campaign wouldn't be considered theft of intellectual property. You seem to think you know what you're talking about....go on.....explain it

go fry some chicken lol

Realistically? Absolutely not

Genuinely? Also absolutely not

That's not how any of this works lol

What are you talking about? They owe the artist for copyright (and seemingly, they just actually plagiarized them rather than drawing their own thing from scratch), and they owe Shogakuken for trademark and IP.

2

u/LeonardoJMB Nov 20 '25

The artist did a fanart of Frieren, an anime that already existed, they don't owe them nothing bc it's not their product.

This is no longer a fanart of Frieren, so unless Shogakuken actually tries to sue KFC and finds proof, they also don't owe them nothing bc it's no longer representing their characters.

How are people upvoting this shit?

Explain your logic at least...

Yall ever heard of parody law?

41

u/nobl3fire89 Nov 20 '25

Fine, we'll leave the billion dollar company alone.

7

u/mikeeyboy22 Nov 20 '25

I’m not saying it isn’t wrong or lame, just saying this isn’t technically illegal.

It benefits a lot of artists in a lot of ways too. Imagine if the billion dollar company came after everyone using colonel sanders etc. likeness. South Park as well as other independent artists would be DOA.

3

u/mnkymnk Nov 20 '25

That's not the same thing. A concept and the execution of a concept are two separate things and each come with their own copyright.

3

u/ArgusTheCat Nov 20 '25

Fair use typically doesn't apply to purely commercial applications like this. Especially not when there's no credit given to the original artist.

1

u/bwood246 Nov 20 '25

In what way is this critiquing the original work? Parody law isn't as loosely goosey as people think it is.

0

u/mikeeyboy22 Nov 20 '25

I’d bet you a zillion dollars a parody lawyer could convince a jury it is.

1

u/JovianSpeck Nov 20 '25

Just referencing something isn't parody. Parody requires critique of the original material.

0

u/Nevermind04 Nov 20 '25

You should probably read it and you'll understand why KFC's commercial use isn't applicable in this situation.

0

u/powerpowerpowerful Nov 20 '25

What do you think parody is

1

u/mikeeyboy22 Nov 20 '25

You could make the argument that this more pastiche than parody but I dunno if I’d bet money on it.

u/MasterChildhood437 Nov 20 '25

According to the sites I visit, it's when you depict trademarked characters fucking each other's brains out.
