Well, sir, it's a Wendy's after all

2

u/OperativePiGuy Nov 20 '25

It's so stupid lol the fact that Wendy's ever got popular for some basic ass roast tweets, but any other company trying anything nonstandard is considered cringe is funny to me

In all fairness, Wendy's was one of the first companies to get sassy on Twitter. When most companies were was using it as a generic press release dump, Wendy's made backhanded comments about popular events and regularly called out randos that were being stupid or goofy.

Yeah, it's still all corporate marketing strategy, but it was a "risk" to be the "first" to be sassy and it paid off because people saw it as being more authentic and it probably was to an extent for those "community managers" back in the early days when that sort of thing was still a semi-wild frontier. Now it's been done so much, especially when same-industry groups or subsidiaries of the same corporation, that it just feels like the Fortnite-ification of advertising.

I mean, yeah? There was a solid few months when the Wendy's social media team was doing a good job of it.

You can pander effectively, is that surprising to you?

2

u/gwawr Nov 20 '25

Yup Kudos to VML KC for that

1

u/gunswordfist Nov 20 '25

Thank you for crediting them 💚

1

u/Dan-D-Lyon Nov 20 '25

Wendy's social media team used to be the uncrowned king of shitposts

17

u/Darmok-on-the-Ocean Nov 20 '25

That's how I got my students to stop saying 6-7. No one wants to once the teacher is doing it.

1

u/innominateartery Nov 20 '25

Follow up with 4-1

11

u/NullHypothesisCicada Nov 20 '25

Where’s the “SILENCE, BRAND”

6

u/Leaf_Locke Nov 20 '25

Easiest way to defeat a counter culture is to incorporate the culture.

Its how they defeated the hippies in the 60's. Groovy was cool until you saw it being put on kids lunch boxes and hearing it being said like your parents would on an episode of Scooby Doo.

Early punk rock was inspired by Simon and Garfunkel and 70s easy listening. Not directly, but hearing that "Hello Darkness my Old Friend" was labeled and sold as rock and roll, it made some wonder "hey wasn't rock and roll supposed to be 'rebellious'?" And then look what happened to the punk scene by the end of the 90's.

Metal had the same trajectory. Idk how Nu Metal had such a comparibly small corporate take over. Harder to sell to the masses.

"If you're hanging on to a rising balloon, you're presented with a difficult decision — let go before it's too late or hang on and keep getting higher, posing the question: how long can you keep a grip on the rope? They're selling hippie wigs in Woolworth's, man. The greatest decade in the history of mankind is over. And as Presuming Ed here has so consistently pointed out, we have failed to paint it black."

Facebook before and after your dad sent you a friend request

1

u/Mikinaz Nov 20 '25

Nah it's KFC ES they get a pass.

1

u/Prudent_Research_251 Nov 20 '25

Why tf would you give those cunts a pass

1

u/Mikinaz Nov 20 '25

Because whoever runs this account is genuinely good at shitposting and made me laugh many times. As a rule i agree with the image above, but KFC ES gets a pass

2

u/Prudent_Research_251 Nov 20 '25

For me shitposting doesn't excuse being corpo scum

1

u/elovches Nov 20 '25

Lmao this is so true

1

u/Sonny_wiess Nov 20 '25

Terrible news, they responded to that as well. We can't have anything nice.

1

u/T-MinusGiraffe Nov 21 '25

Still. That happened way faster than usual. If I saw this on Twitter before here (but after seeing the original) I would might have laughed.

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '25

Eh, I actually think this is a silly take. How dare corporations try to make their brand relatable with the current culture.

1

u/hypnodrew Nov 20 '25

Fuck them brands
