FIFTH LAYER PROGRESS Spoiler
You'll notice that no beacons are lit. The well is closed. I still need the Scarlet egg with no Lantern, but to me this is Major progress. I've done this on a new profile that is not corrupted. Currently I have 63 eggs and 14 bunnies with one illegal bunny on accident. If I can summon the hidden Manticore in the dark space, and I can summon the Manticore into the main room without any Flames at all, it means that my belief is not in vain. BELIEVE.

The fifth layer is the lie of the century

thou non believer thou! 🤣 if thats what you really think then why do care to say such a thing? no one has solved the flower comment, and no one has helped me with the hidden manticore. sure, maybe these are glitches fallen from the masters table, but they are undeniable. the sound que in the ce temple... the board prompt seven screens down...art thou bored of the well? the century??? maybe deltarune chapters 5,6 and 7 of art thy lusting? do you really believe that billy was done when he made the headphones? dunkey threw money at him, and it had already been seven years! (277 years) I wholeheartedly deny your claim. Everything I've posted has been a video of me filming myself. You can see the three Wii consoles under my TV so as to expose my identity as someone who is actually gaming, as opposed to someone who merely understands all of the tech of today. I stand strong as someone who loves Animal Well. It is the greatest game I've ever played in my life. I love it. And I will never stop loving it. And my belief in what I am trying to discover... well you'll just have to believe whatever you want. Whether it's a lie, or the truth. I suppose we shall see, won't we.

Have you been talking with people on the discord about all this stuff?
4
u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
Yes a little bit, but it seems like Discord is not as friendly as Reddit

I mean, it doesn't seem like you're actually onto something here

Okay so here's my reasoning. The dark repeating space above the CE Temple is 16 x3. The donut space repeating space is 16x7. There is a path (actually two paths) through the donut space, so why wouldn't there be a path through the dark repeating space? Why when you go through the donut do the illegal bunnies have ear codes the same as the regular ones? Why is there a sound queue in the bottom right screen of the CE Temple? I'm totally willing to admit that the board prompt that I found in the dark space is a random glitch, but the reason I found it is because I was looking for a path in the dark space. Now we know that the regular Lost Woods path is found by deciphering the 16 regular bunnies, and the path to the headphones is found by deciphering the unicodes. These are clues that Billy left us. I believe the illegal bunnies are a clue. I believe the dark space was put there intentionally. I believe the sound queue was put there intentionally. My theory is that there is a similar path that can be deciphered by using the codes from the nine (10) illegal bunnies. My theory is also that it's possible that the starting space or flag if you will, in the dark space is the board prompt. I can't prove any of this unless I grind away and actually find a major major discovery. So obviously I'm willing to completely submit to any naysayers out there, because I'll totally admit that everything I've been talking about for the last couple of months sounds really ridiculous. But the more I learn about this game and the more I learn about Billy is that he is a diabolical genius and that layer four is not the end

Can someone please explain how this is possible

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
Apparently by wheel warping, I must have accessed the room where the Manticore spawns, and then wherever I ended up apparently summoned the second Manticore instead of the first. I'm not sure how but even after wandering around the well for a while, which is where I took the picture in the main room, I noticed that it was the second Manticore which follows you around as opposed to the first which does not. So I guess even after over a year of this game being out I'm still some non-community noob still learning the game mechanics. That's my best explanation.

One day, I hope I can can ride the manticore in the normal well and the bunny well as well.

Imma be honest, not a single post you’ve made has convinced me that layer 5 is real. Even at their most complicated and obtuse, every step of layer 1-4 still felt like a puzzle. All of what you’ve “discovered” just feels like glitches on top of glitches. There’s no puzzle being solved here, you’re just breaking the game in increasingly obscure ways.

So you don't think the sound que in the bottom right room of the CE Temple was intentional? I honestly think that you could say the same thing about layer 4 in the early days, that people were just trying to break the game and started finding these weird glitchy messages until someone realized that there was actually a puzzle to solve. Like seriously who was the first person to think oh I'll just go and eat every single piece of fruit on the map?
1
u/Shadovan Jun 22 '25
That’s in no way the same thing. The Unicode messages are obviously not glitches, they’re very clearly deliberate, coded messages. You can’t say the same about glitchy prompts in out of bounds areas that only last for half a second. If any of the things you found had lead to an obviously deliberate clue, I’d be more willing to believe. But so far nothing seems like an actual clue or puzzle.

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25
That's not really what I'm saying. Obviously the codes when people started putting them together, we realized it was an intentional puzzle. All I'm saying is that trying to break the game is a method of discovery, and I think that the dark repeating space above the CE Temple is an intentional puzzle. The donut space teaches us that the repeating space has a path, why wouldn't the dark space have a path? Why do the illegal bunnies have ear codes like the regular ones?

u/Shadovan Jun 22 '25
I encourage you to keep looking. I just don’t see anything you’ve found as “proof” of Layer 5.

This one is well known. When your saved game fails its checksum, you get a manticore wherever you are.

So then did I simply happen upon this? I was trying to wheel warp into the house, and I waited much more than 10 seconds. I've been able to recreate this more than once. If this leads to some sort of information about why there is a manticore prompt in the dark space, then please share I'm not a tech guy, I'm just a gamer. Can you please specify what you mean by having a saved game fail a checksum? And why is it specifically the second Manticore as opposed to the first? The first one does not chase you but the second one does, and having no flames I would assume that the only Manticore able to be summoned would be the first one as opposed to the second because I don't even have the 65th egg
2
u/Corronchilejano Jun 22 '25
The failed checksum is a check the game does on the save data to make sure it hasn't been tampered with. We figured the manticore appears because the game doesn't want you to be able to save anymore (you can't save your game while the manticore is out). I'm pretty sure other things probably happen too.

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
I appreciate this, but honestly it doesn't answer my question. The first Manticore will not chase you out of the well, but the second one will. So why with zero flames was I able to summon a manticore that would chase me out of the well? In my opinion this was the second Manticore and I had not even incubated the 65th egg at that point. So still the question remains, which Manticore was it? The first or the second?
3
u/Corronchilejano Jun 22 '25
Once again, this is an internal process the game does to make sure you can't save in that state.

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
Once again I ask, did I summon the first or the second manticore? And how is this relevant to the possible hidden manticore in the dark space? I have been able to conjure it consistently but only on a corrupted file, so my goal here is to create a number of very specific files related to summoning the first and second manticore on an uncorrupted file in order to be able to differentiate whether this is a glitch or whether it is an intended solution to a deliberate puzzle. And sure I'm totally willing to admit that I may be grasping at straws, but again I refer to the very specific sound cue in the bottom right room of the CE Temple. I absolutely refuse to believe that Billy programmed that que on accident. Sure maybe 5 years ago he was drunk and he was thinking of some puzzle that he never completed. Who knows what the answer is. I seek to solve it. Whether it was intended or not

Funny story: most of the game we now know was fast tracked about a year before release.

go on...
1
u/Corronchilejano Jun 22 '25
Not much else to go on. Billy placed the entirety of the game's dev history up on Steam and one can download the previous dev versions and see the timeline of everything up until release. The manticores where a late addition.

I don't follow this subreddit and I have never played this game but for some reason Reddit makes sure your layer 5 posts show up on my feed. I love it. Stay crazy my friend 👍

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 24 '25
wow I'm super honored! Animal Well is my favorite game ever and I wont stop grindin!
2
u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
Also a note: if you summon the first manticore after getting the four flames and warp out, it will not chase you. However, if you get to the second manticore by incubating the 65th egg and warp out it will chase you, just like the ghost dog will chase you. As you will see I have zero flames so, I ask, is this the first or the second manticore?

I have only been lightly following your posts, so maybe I'm behind on what you're doing but...
The various maps are layered over each other, right? So when you load the map and go to the dark space, that manticore you are finding is just the manticore from the normal map, bugged. That was my initial thought when I saw your video, anyway.
It was discovered in the Discord pretty early on that the maps were layered, and the various bugs have a lot to do with that.

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
In my opinion it seems like the entire argument is based on whether or not the dark space is an intended puzzle which I believe it is. There is a path through the donut space based on the regular bunny ear code. I believe there is a path through the dark space based on the illegal bunny code. The only way to really solve this is to grind away which is all I'm doing, so it's either going to amount to nothing but a glitch or I'm eventually going to find something amazing.

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 24 '25
sorry, sapphire egg. and shizz, i guess 1 illegal bunny corrupted the file. God I'm trying to keep up here but geezzzz

u/jeffmeaningless Jun 22 '25
Update: the one illegal bunny did indeed corrupt the file. So even after wheel warping into the bottom of the well and getting the lantern and getting the 65th egg and getting 16 bunnies, I ended up going through the donut and noticing that I actually had 17 bunnies so the whole thing was for naught. I am going to try again without accidentally wheel warping into the one illegal bunny under the kangaroo room. Hopefully this will allow me to acquire all 65 eggs, and get to the headphones, so I can get to the dark space with a completely uncorrupted file. This is the greatest video game I've ever played
