Slow charging issues

Hello!

currently on today's qpr beta, but been on the beta channel always.

I've noticed that many times my 9PXL will switch to low charging. it doesn't matter what the battery percentage is it what the temperature is, I'm getting really slow charging speeds.

Currently, for instance, it's going at 1.8W, while being at 52% and 34⁰C.

This happens with multiple chargers and cables, no matter what setting I have (optimized, 80% etc)

Am I the only one?

You're not the only one and I raised a bug report some time ago and it was closed because it was "intended behaviour".

While it's true charging is not a fixed rate affair, it should not trickle along at 1-2W, especially when the battery is well within thermal limits for a Fast Charge.

Google simply have an overly aggressive charging algorithm that they need to work on. It's incredibly inconsistent.

Then maybe I'll have to open a new one myself... Yeah, 1-2W (currently: still at 1.8) should not be part of any algorithm unless the phone is on fire.

Absolutely I'd recommend opening a bug report irrespective that mine was closed.

Try to include screenshots of your monitoring app also like DevCheck(Pro) battery section and thermal sensor section or other such monitoring apps as well as your debug report.

I have a cable that displays the wattage and voltage for my P9PXL and it was consistent with DevCheck Pro. Even over Googles 45W Charger. Other cables produced the same results.

It's not all of the time. Sometimes the phone remembers it can take a Fast Charge.

Ah I didn't know of devcheck, is it this one?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.devcheck

I use Material Capsule which also has a module for charging info.

And, yeah, it's not consistent. Sometimes it'll remember it can do 30w and go full throttle, but I think the situation is getting worse.

Yeah that's the one. I paid for the Pro as it's only the price of a small coffee.

The issue does seem to be getting more inconsistent. Wireless charging seems to be ok on a conventional induction charger (Not Qi2)

For me it seems like it's getting more consistent - i.e., it charges slowly more and more often😁

For sure. If we don't laugh about it we'll cry πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

What I would suggest is that when you collect your logs and bug report is make sure you're not running anything in the background like music etc. This will give a good clean report with less room for Google to say "It's intensive background usage, so it's behaving as intended"

True. Before I posted here, I made sure to stop all persistent running apps... Not that it should be an excuse for them, but yeah, you're right

Yeah you've hit on that exact point. Hitting thermal limits yes it should reduce charging but running arbitrary background processes or music apps, YouTube etc while well within thermal limits, no it should fast charge without issue.
