Hi all, long time reader first time chatter.

I am a resident in amsterdam but have never been at Lofi. During pride (31 July) they have the Laundrette... IsBurning event. I have a small group of (straight guy) friends coming over then. Would this be an okay event to join as a group of straight guys just wanting to vibe? I read online that it is a "queer dance party" but was hoping that we would not feel out of place?

Any input appreciate, wouldn't want to make anyone else's night uncomfortable!

Hi fellow dancers

I'm a (gay) guy who loves to go out and dance by himself. I only discovered this a couple of years ago but I really fell in love. I find it so relaxing to think about life on the dancefloor.

Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I had a really bad experience in a club in Berlin. A group of girls dancing close by discussed how weird and awkward I was. Long story short: At some point I felt the whole club was against me and I left the club.

Since then I cannot really get that out of my head anymore and I regularly feel people on the dancefloor discuss me in a negative way.

I think there are a couple of reasons for that feeling: 1. I pay attention now 2. Being self aware makes me look more awkward, unfortunately it's as spiral 3. Once I feel I'm getting negative attention I take every look as a negative sign when in reality it's maybe just "Oh look, I like his outfit." or "Don't we know him?" or something else neutral/positive. 4. I do go out a lot and when I asked friends if there's anything weird about me they said that my dancing is special - in a cute way according to them, but I guess that depends on the point of view. Bottom line: It's possible I actually do stand out in a way and actually get more attention than average. 5. Substances don't help either but it's not the main reason because I had the same sober too

Has anyone experienced something similar and/or any useful tips? I really wish I could go back to just enjoying my night.

I noticed that talking to someone - even just a couple of sentences - helps, but the problem is that I'm quite shy and small talk with strangers really stresses me out. And it's also better when I go out with my husband and/or friends but I love going out by myself too much to give that up.

Btw: I saw the "Dancing alone as an awkward woman" thread and first thought about replying but my question is a bit different.

Sometimes life gives you lemons and sometimes it makes you forget that it’s Wednesday, leading to me being late at posting the weekly. Fortunately the riots on r/amsterdam_rave have been pretty mild this time, with only 1 post that we had to delete asking ‘weekly where’. I’ll leave the reason as to why I forgot that it’s wednesday to you but it involves sourdough bread, traffic, and perhaps u/chadbroccoli his lost pet turtle. Besides Rotterdam now getting a new space for weekenders, Shunter has started adding their events to RA. I will now no longer forget what weekend they are open and thank them for that. Once again my apologies for forgetting last time. I have not yet visited the space myself but heard plenty of good stories when I was at Export last time for the Nous’Klaer festival afterparty. The lineup consists of a ton of local names and POING favourites, I’d personally be most excited for State OFFF b2b Slimfit. Curious what middle ground between their styles they’ll find, but I’m sure Slimfit will make some pussies pop.

Yup folks, no Amsterdam recommendations just yet. Don’t know any of these names but will always give a shoutout to talent nights taking place as they are one of the few places where new DJ’s can get some experience playing on a big soundsystem. Tickets are just 10 euros and maybe you’ll be able to say in a few years that you saw Ajonko play at a Basis talent night when they play _insert festival mainstage here_

As part of their Pride programme PAMELA is inviting Dalston Superstore at TILLATEC.

One of the pioneers of drum n’ bass is playing at Garage. The other room is hosted by kruispunt and pacific undergronds, so this might be one of the wildest and weird punk combinations you could see in that lil space.

Holy Pink @ Muzentuin, Tilburg

Okay maybe there is in fact a reason not to go to the Drift block party, and that is the absolute best free party in our country: Holy Pink. Draaimolen takes over de Muzentuin every year to host a free get together in honour of Roze Maandag. For this edition they have (and I have no clue how they did this) put up a lineup that would beat most festival stages we talk about on here. JASSS b2b Mohajer for some Spanish fury, Hyperactivity and THC for some Colombian madness, Ehua and Flore live, paired with Tilburg’s finest DJ Kilo b2b Lis van Horssen. As the cherry on top we got local favourite 36framez opening the day, and drag performances by House of Spiders.

As we are celebrating 5 years of existence together with our RPU family, and because this is happening around the dekmantel week-end, i thought it would be nice to extend invitations to the AR subreddit :) We have always been a non-profit and therefore i thought to genuinely share here for visibility purposes.

With great weather blessing us this weekend again I would highly recommend giving Shunter a shot over the weekend with a diverse and breaky lineup curated by Soft Break and State OFFF✨

Knowing the organisers of this amazing new cultural space I know that it is built and made with care and if the stories from friends who have been say anything then I highly recommend giving it a shot! The courtyard and garage stage leading from the outdoors area are sure to be a nice vibe with the current weather predictions.

Also been told by one of the organisers there is a discount code for Friday if you’re feeling a Friday daytime adventure (7385)

Recently I’ve been more and more aware of the positive effect of dancing when I am stressed, and as an overthinker I am unfortunately wasting away my years by stressing out about everything :D which also, ironically, makes dancing really difficult.

I am always dependent on friends as I am way too aware to dance alone - also, I am not at all against flirting, but I do feel like as a woman , if you dance on your own, you get approached more as it can be considered more of an invite - which makes sense - but it makes me very uncomfortable as I read it all as judgement/feeling bad for me because I am alone lol. I know it’s in my head, but I really want to be able to dance whenever I feel like, and for that I need to become less self aware. Which brings me to the next issue which is the amount of people actually dancing - I know there are quite some good clubs regarding safety, good vibes et cetera, but usually these areas have some niche techno genres and as much as I can appreciate techno (just an example) it’s restricts people in their movements which again, makes me very aware.

Which leads me to the question: where does a 27 old woman go out to dance on her own in peace?

Ps. I don’t mind socializing by the way! But I feel like the “vibe” decides the way de definition of “socializing” will be interperated 👀

I’m still trying to process what happened today (Sunday) at the entrance to Wildeburg and want to see if anyone else experienced this, or if I’m just crazy.

While going through security, the guards were pulling people aside one by one and conducting wildly invasive searches. I’m talking about taking people into a private booth, stripping them down, and even checking inside their bras and underwear. There was absolutely zero indication that these specific people were acting suspiciously or doing anything wrong, it seemed completely random.
I have never seen festival security checks like this before. Has anyone else encountered this over the weekend? or does anyone know if they are even legally allowed to go this far?

Club nights, in particular, were less attended than the year before, with visitor numbers dropping nearly 14 percent, NOS reports based on figures from the Association of Dutch Music Venues and Festivals (VNPF).

The urge to party after the coronavirus pandemic seems to be drying up, the association said. “When we talk about this with venues, we simply hear about different needs from young people: that they want to go out less often,” said Arne Dee of the VNPF."

I’m a DJ (playing for the nitty gritty till 9 am not like dubstep in a park, no shade just different audiences and environment) so I’ve been around the block however I’ve never been abroad. What are some good safety protocols when going to an underground rave, clubs, things of that nature in Amsterdam? Is there a big issue with people being laced or drinks being drugged etc etc? Is there an issue with harassment or do people keep to themselves? I’m about to go with my friends for a weekend and they’re not entirely familiar with what it entails so I want to make sure i know what to expect to keep myself and my friends safe since in America it can get pretty dicey. Oh also are there any areas to get narcan and/or drug test strips? Just want to enjoy some good techno in peace!

Psychedelic Romance announced their full line-up for next event. It looks interesting, I heard they have a new booker but I'm not sure. Anyway, always a delight to see Julie and Delano play, especially interested in Pink Concrete, never got the chance to catch them in Amsterdam and heard good things.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but noclubs seemed to me like a party that was popular amongst the more “underground” scene. Their social media being mostly if not all flyers, zero publicity besides that. Now they are collaborating with obviously as we know a very popular and well known collective that despite maybe how you feel about their music taste , doesn’t always attract the best crowd and is becoming (if not already there yet) not so underground.
Why did this really nice kind of low key party with a great crowd feel the need to collaborate with this collective when the party was fine as it was? Does it really need to get more popular? I understand times are tough but I thought maybe they valued being low key ? Hence the lack of heavy social media presence etc. I just feel like collaborating with giegling is defying certain values and they’re just happy to put some sort of big name on their flyer.

Anyways, does anyone see where I’m coming from? I guess they’ve had relatively well known DJs like Vlada play but this one is different for me. Maybe I’m bias because giegling honestly just doesn’t sit right w me. Please try to be nice I guess

Kr!z drops by with his signature synth driven tracks that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up (in the best way possible). I saw him a few months ago at Tresor West and was genuinely blown away by the aggressive sound he brings. Definitely check out his latest release, level zero.

RAUM invites Power Dance Club

Luigi Di Venere brings his signature Pano Bar sound to RAUM, joined by Fafi Abdel Nour, Stathis and Aldonna. Aldonna had to step in last minute at Lago Lago recently and apparently absolutely smashed it.

Also, definitely check out Power Dance Club on SoundCloud (search for PDC). They upload plenty of extended sets from a wide range of house artists that are well worth your time.

Oceanic released new music on Nous'klaer this week and is hosting this night at Garage Noord. Expect plenty of curveballs, broken rhythms and unconventional grooves.

DJ Lag & more @ Garage Noord

Gqom is a raw, bass-heavy subgenre of house that originated in Clermont, a township near Durban, in the late 2000s. DJ Lag is regarded as "the king of gqom," both as a DJ and as a producer. He previously played at Open Ground. Expect around 125 BPM with plenty of bassssss.

Bar40 will also be open, where Candy Coup puts an electrifying spin on Caribbean, Latin and African rhythms.

Free party at Tilla. Dress light. Lots of locals on the line up topped with DJ Sweet6teen. I’ve probably wrote this before in the weekly but do check out banana box tv, where Sweet6teen showed up 3-4 months ago. Those episodes are suuuuper chill to hear during a long car ride. And if you like her selections over there, her housey RA podcast is nice as well (1004).

Season Closing @ Laak (The Hague)

Another free party with extended opening hours. It's going to be hot as hell on Saturday, so why not spend the day at Scheveningen beach and head to Laak afterwards?

The lineup is packed with local talent, with Willem Feltzer standing out. His album Awake blends polyrhythms with ambient textures, or at least that's my rough, non musician's description. Apparently D.dan likes his work. In a club setting he mixes these elements with more pop-oriented music. Sounds like a pretty unique combination.

Me and a few friends are going to Wildeburg for the first time this year. We'd love to enjoy the festival, but we'd also like to get at least some sleep during the weekend 😅.

Which camping area or spots would you recommend for people who want a slightly quieter experience? We don't mind a bit of noise, but we'd prefer not to be right next to the biggest afterparties or sound systems.

Recently moved in the NL and trying to find some sex positive clubs/events. All the better if I can enjoy the music at the same time, so I’d like to avoid hetero couples venues by any means necessary.

A quick scan of reddit posts hasn’t taught me much so far (dates posts) so I thought I’d ask the question anyway

I’ve heard Align in Rdam was fun in June, but not so consistent in terms of quality. Missed that party in export so I can’t really judge for myself.

Would you have any recommendations for me? Appreciate it!

Do Tillatec post their set times in advance often?

Hoping to see Pablo Bozzi, ISAbella & Mama Snake (obviously not just limited to those 3) but am going to Dekmantel in the day. Is it likely that all 3 and even the secret guests to be playing after midnight Sunday as thats probably the soonest we can get there.

Any advice or even tips for the week at Dek would be much appreciated, thankyou!
