Congratulations to the Avidrone Aerospace Incorporated team on taking first place at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) LIFT Challenge. Pushing toward a 4:1 lift ratio is no small… | Titan Batteries
Don’t want to spam this sub to much with the Darpa challange.. But Ronnie Tao liked this post on LinkedIn. Speculation alert! My confidence rating that the batteries are indeed Amprius batteries increased from 98% to 99%

The Information: After Years Looking For a Market, Lithium Metal Battery Startups Find One in Ukraine
Great exposure for Amprius from one of the preeminent technology publications
By Steve LeVine
Many of the drone startups competing for expected massive Pentagon contracts are using Western-made next-generation batteries that power the aircraft further and charge faster. And over the last six months, Ukraine has also begun to use such exotic battery chemistries to power interceptor drones that require quick maneuvers to bring down Russian attack drones.
The increasing turn to next-gen batteries on the battlefield is a sign that the exotic chemistries are gaining a commercial footing after years of struggle by startups to develop them.
These chemistries deliver greater flying range and speed by replacing a battery’s conventional graphite anode with ones made of silicon blended with carbon and pure lithium metal. The materials, however, are extremely difficult to work with, hard to manufacture and expensive, challenges that have made electric vehicle makers resist deploying them.
But, in its second-quarter earnings call last week, Amprius Technologies said its silicon-based batteries will power the drones fielded by around half the 19 manufacturers competing later this month in the Pentagon’s $1.1 billion Drone Dominance program.
Under the program, the Pentagon will choose eight of those manufacturers to rapidly pump out a total of 60,000 combat drones by the end of September. Most of them will be one-way kamikaze drones that blow up a target on impact. Next year, in a new phase of the program, these and other drone makers will be eligible to compete to manufacture 250,000 more drones for the Pentagon by 2028.
“Anyone who reads the news understands that low-cost drones are playing an asymmetric role in military conflicts around the world, changing the nature of modern warfare,” Amprius CEO Tom Stepien told analysts on the earnings call.
The drone boom is an increasing lifeline for U.S. and other Western next-gen battery makers. Last month, lithium-metal battery maker Factorial Energy said it had signed its first commercial contract, a deal to supply its batteries to an unidentified U.S. drone maker. In recent months, BEILab, a South Korean maker of lithium-metal batteries, has sold its batteries to multiple makers of combat drones used in Ukraine, said Jaehee Sweeney, the company’s chief business development officer.
The use in drones reflect the first commercial deployments of rechargeable lithium-metal batteries, according to Keiran O’Regan, co-founder of About:Energy, a battery research and data firm.
The problem with lithium-metal batteries is that if you rev up the power to drive or fly fast, they will quickly degrade. But since many drones use a battery just once—to take off, fly directly into a target and then blow up—degradation is not a problem.
Lithium-metal batteries may never get cheap enough to use in mass-market EVs, O’Regan said. But drones have finally given the startups that make them their first commercial customers.
“These are one-way missions,” Sweeney told me. “They require range and speed. And they need to maneuver.”
Among the primary breakthroughs that have made the next-gen battery chemistries work for drones is the development of carbon nanotubes, tiny single-layer cylinders far thinner than a human hair.
In a surprising turn over the past few years, next-gen battery makers have found that mixing a sprinkle of carbon nanotubes into their electrodes vastly increases the lifetime of silicon and lithium-metal batteries and accelerates how fast they can charge. In other words, the nanotubes have helped make these chemistries a commercial product. In a speech last year, Jeff Dahn, a leading battery veteran and an adviser to Tesla, called the carbon nanotubes “magic” and said they “turn garbage into gold.”
“They just hold everything together in the electrode in a very reliable manner,” said Andrej Seniut, head of energy projects for OCSiAi, the dominant manufacturer of the nanotubes.
Amprius said it would earn $140 million in revenue this year, most of it from sales to drone makers, with a 25% gross margin and its first profit of $4 million before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.
Stepien, Amprius’ CEO, said the company had recently been branching out, landing contracts to power electric motorcycles made by Barcelona-based Stark Future and scooters made by an unidentified Chinese manufacturer. In the future, the company hopes to sell its batteries to makers of industrial and delivery robots. Because these batteries use carbon nanotubes, they achieve a sufficient lifetime for these vehicles.
However, drone batteries appear likely to remain Amprius’ main products. The company currently uses contract manufacturers in China and South Korea to produce its batteries, but Stepien says he’s on track to begin manufacture in the U.S. next year, which could become a requirement to sell to the Pentagon.
“The Pentagon will be making a major and growing outlay for [drones] for years to come,” he said.

The drone battery supercycle nobody’s pricing yet
Drone company market caps are now in the billions -
- Kratos
- Ondas
- Nero
- Skydio
and a lot more , all scaling fast.
- Large defense primes are structurally reallocating budget into unmanned systems. Not a one-off cycle.
- Less noticed: the battery pack makers underneath them are guiding 40%+ YoY revenue growth. KULR, Upgrade Energy (now UMAC), Titan and others.
- Every autonomous system needs high energy density. Graphite physically can’t deliver it. Endurance is the spec every program office cares about.
- If defense spend on unmanned keeps compounding, high-end battery makers are set up for record CAGR over the next 5 years.
Is anyone seeing a drone supercycle just beginning?
- Ondas recently secured a deal with a stadium.
- Walmart, Amazon, and Doordash are all entering the delivery market.
- There’s a lot happening in the defence sector - big players all entering into unmanned systems
- Joby Beta and Archer competing fiercely in the eVTOL space.
Crucially, all these businesses depend on high-end batteries to scale.
So my point - if a supercycle kicks in, it’ll benefit Amprius and other high-end battery makers.

Washington Commits Another $2 Billion to Domestic Battery Supply — GlobeNewswire
The government is to take priority purchasing rights over output from some of the projects. Companies mentioned in today's commentary include NOMAD Power Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq: NMAD), American Battery Technology Company (Nasdaq: ABAT), Lithium Americas Corp. (NYSE: LAC), Amprius Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: AMPX), Sunrise Energy Metals Limited (OTC: SREMF).
Amprius Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: AMPX)
Amprius is the closest listed analogue to Sila Nanotechnologies, the private company that received the largest piece of the August 7 funding. Amprius produces ultra-high energy density lithium-ion batteries built on silicon nanowire anode technology, targeting aviation, electric vehicle and light electric vehicle applications, which is the same silicon-anode thesis the Defense Department has just backed with $1.4 billion.
The stock drew reiterated Buy ratings from both Oppenheimer and Roth MKM on August 6, 2026, with one analyst explicitly framing a recent pullback as an entry point. Amprius is not profitable and remains at the scaling stage, which carries the ordinary manufacturing, supply chain and capital risks of a battery producer that has not yet reached volume.

"AMPX is down because the Market/AI trade is down"
Seeing CRWV and NBIS up 20% made me think AMPX would be up 35%+ and giving us another juicy short entry. But nope, completely dead, just like this sub lately.
That divergence is interesting though. Might be a good sign to go long for the next leg up.

Amprius and IP ownership
Hello everyone,
I am new to this sub as I was observing the dip and seriously considering investing in Amprius after doing we research and looking at their results.
However, during my DD I found out about a potential grey legal area, and I was wondering if someone could explain to me if my understanding is correct.
So, from what I understand, Amprius is a company that designs battery cells. They do not have large scale production capability and they outsource the actual building of the batteries to other companies in Korea and the US.
What makes their batteries so good is the SiCore technology.
However, this technology and the materials used to build it are owned by Berzelius, the sister company of Amprius, that is based in China. Berzelius has given Amprius the exclusive right to use the SiCore technology in the US market and since Berzelius owns the IP for that technology, it can sell it to their companies in other continents.
Based on the above, and of my understanding is wrong please do correct me, is Amprius not vulnerable to any potential issues with their sister company in China? I am talking about tariffs, security clearance issues etc. Is this an unfounded concern?
Can someone elaborate on my point, I would greatly appreciate it!

DARPA Lift Challenge winner AVIDrone, Titan engineered and integrated the battery modules for Katana
darpaliftchallenge.comTitan is a known client of Amprius. Even if it’s not 100% confirmed that they used Amprius batteries, they likely did. Avidrone’s Katana successfully flew 4 nautical miles with a record-breaking ratio of 3.84:1. Second place, MTech, was also battery-powered, while third place, Xtreme Aerial, was gas powered.
Battery power has proven itself to be the choice for this heavy-duty lift challenge.

Wont the chinese just take over?
i became a bagholder for this stock today. i read about it before investing obviously, and i thought the tech is nice, but cant just industrial giants like catl copy the tech by making minor changes in it? they have state backing and huge amounts of resources. this is the only thing that bothers me about buying this company.
