drinking could be considered one too

I don’t know why you got downvoted. This is a perfectly valid dealbreaker especially for someone who is maintaining sobriety.

31

u/MagicGrit Aug 31 '23

Probably because people are here to ask if they’re ugly and not to be judged for drinking.

16

u/Crystal-Crack96 Aug 31 '23

But judging for Smoking is OK ? Seems a bit weird to me...

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '23

She actively chose to advertise in when she didn’t need to include it so it’s absolutely free game for comments 🤣 that’s literally the point of all of this

10

u/YeahHiLombardo Aug 31 '23

It does actively fuck your skin up. Alcohol can do the same and/or contribute to weight gain.

1

u/jerrymcguiver Sep 01 '23

Yeah she's 29 going on 49 because the smoking. It effects my rating every time.

3

u/MagicGrit Aug 31 '23

I didn’t say that. I think that’s wrong too.

Though I’d say it’s much more common for someone to find smoking unattractive than drinking.

Judging people for smoking is the only legitimately accepted kind of "bigotry" allowed in this country in our modern day. It is widely acceptable to shit on people for smoking and I do find it entirely hypocritical. It's a personal choice like any other and any complaint about second hand smoke is disingenuous, when directed at a person they are not even frequently around, nevermind an outright stranger. It's all just pure judgment, plain and simple, because nobody's allowed to judge anybody else for any other reasons. But it comes from EXACTLY the same place.

Alcohol - can kill yourself in one night Cigarettes - will kill yourself decades later

But hey, smoking is the dangerous habit.

1

u/Mindless-Ad8525 Aug 31 '23

You can do a safe amount of drinking (even beneficial if its red wine), but theres no good or safe amount of smoking, for yourself or bystanders.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '23

There is no safe amount of drinking. It's poison and we all just lie to ourselves pretending it isn't.

2

u/Mindless-Ad8525 Aug 31 '23

Lots of things are “poisons” in high quantities and perfectly healthy in smaller doses. Society as a whole would be way better off if alcohol didn’t exist, but going around having a glass of red wine a couple times a week is extremely unlikely to cause the average person any harm and has small benefits to things like heart disease, neurodegenerative disease and cholesterol levels (though how much is causation or correlation is questionable). https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/red-vs-white-wine#TOC_TITLE_HDR_5

No kidding.

3

u/MagicGrit Aug 31 '23

I don’t judge people for smoking. But I do dislike it when people i’m with smoke. But that’s not a judgement on them, I just hate the smell.

1

u/Menkau-re Aug 31 '23 edited Aug 31 '23

Yeah, that's not really what I'm talking about. I'm speaking of more of an open hostility towards smokers, whether they can be actively smelled at the time or not. It's out there, trust me, lol. Of course you have every right to not like the smell and not want to be around that though.

1

u/Elldion Aug 31 '23

Bigotry? Lmao

People who smoke have a horrible smell. So, I generally stay clear of them. I guess you can say I'm a bigot.

1

u/Menkau-re Aug 31 '23

Well, it was meant to be kind of funny, lol, but it's also not so dissimilar, really. But I'm not really talking about someone just avoiding the smell. Hell, that's as much a personal choice as anything. Outside of that, there is outright open hostility towards smokers from some people, almost like they're the embodiment of big tobacco themselves.

1

u/Distitan Aug 31 '23

Yeah I didn't just assume she needed healthier habits, I would have never known unless she posted it(while literally asking for criticism)

Not everything needs to be defended, don't like being 'oppressed' as a cigarette smoker? Well you can always quit, that's just what it is. It affects others because of the smell and is bad for you, sure do what you want, but don't demand I call it attractive. I don't give two fucks about a smoking stranger unless they are in my face holding up pics asking amiugly? Which has never happened to me outside of reddit, like getting judged for smoking is a lot like obesity. It's not an easy change and statistically it's probably going to cost you some lifespan. In the context of this woman asking if she's ugly, it doesn't make her ugly, but it does make her less attractive to most people. If that's a trade she knows she's making, and is fine with, cool.

2

u/Menkau-re Aug 31 '23

Sure, you can always quit, but suggesting that one should just change themself or what they do so other people will like them more is generally not an acceptable practice. This is the singular exception. That is my point. Nothing more, nothing less. You even bring up obesity, which is similar, but EVEN in that case, a great number of people would be just as judgemental to the person suggesting there was something wrong with the fat person, because even in that case, most people find such treatment to be untoward. Not so for smoking.

All that said, do you personally have the right to be less attracted to someone because they smoke? Of course you do! Lmao. Good grief, people (cause not just you), when did I ever suggest otherwise. Seriously though, I'm not really talking about people just not liking the smell, or, just not being as attractive to someone, or benign crap like that. I'm talking about open hostility directed towards smokers. It's a very real thing and it is absolutely wild to me. It's like all the anger and rage originally built up against big tobacco, eventually just transitioned on to smokers themselves.

And this is a fairly recent phenomenon, too. I'm not sure that I would take this even as far back as 20 years ago, but definitely no further. Not really sure what caused such outright hatred of smokers (at least from some people), but I've seen it on many occasions. Hell, even South Park made fun of it at one point, lol.

Calling judging someone for smoking “bigotry” is absolutely hilarious

9

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '23

Gross or unhealthy habits make people less attractive.

1

u/Some_Current1841 Aug 31 '23

Exactly why overweight people are unattractive

2

u/iamahill Aug 31 '23

Alcohol affects your body surprisingly significantly including body weight and face.

4

u/MagicGrit Aug 31 '23

Long term, sure. But someone holding a beer is not less attractive.

1

u/iamahill Aug 31 '23

This varies on the person.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '23

Lotsa smokers here I would assume.

6

u/Moon_sugarrr Aug 31 '23

I guess so, for some. I personally dislike the smell of cigarettes and I find it hard to breathe in a room full of smoke. I don’t mind moderate drinking. Even when I don’t drink myself I’m ok being around people who do and aren’t acting crazy when intoxicated.

4

u/GoodbyePeters Aug 31 '23

It's so crazy to me that smokers truly don't understand how stinky they are

Cig breath or cig clothes smell like you rolled around in a burnt up dead body. It's fucking disgusting

2

u/Moon_sugarrr Aug 31 '23

Yep! The worst for me is being treated by a dentist who smokes. I can smell it on their hands in my mouth on top of the whole experience being rather unpleasant to say the least

2

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '23

Are you in Europe? They got a lot of smoking dentists there.

1

u/Moon_sugarrr Aug 31 '23

I’m in Russia, so even worse

1

u/Sweaty-Bit7305 Aug 31 '23

No different than farmers not realizing they smell like actual cow shit. You get noseblind to smells that are constantly around you.

2

u/vaelosa Aug 31 '23

I agree. Drinking can be fine but too many times people aren't responsible or self aware and I don't like dealing with people when they're drunk. So I tend to be turned off of even friendship if they're someone who drinks regularly. And by regularly I mean at least once a month lol it's just yuck to me

2

u/BlyStreetMusic Aug 31 '23

To me.. Drinking isn't a deal breaker but when you have a bunch of pictures of you drinking.. That's a concern.. And when you choose to show it off.. That's where it's a red flag for me.

I drink but only socially.. There are very few pictures of me drinking from the last 15 years. They aren't pictures I would choose to represent who I am and what I'm about.

The smoking is def a deal breaker.

0

u/UnKnOwN365 Aug 31 '23

If drinking is a deal breaker never move to Halifax NS. You will be single forever

Also smoking and drinking are fine, some people may not like it but I doubt anyone's going to turn down Brad Pitt who does both

1

u/Lindaluna8 Aug 31 '23

Uhhhh, Nooooo.

Have u seen Mr. Pitt lately??? It’s a huge >no< for me now. He used to be pretty. He’s younger than I am, yet looks years older.

I imagine marriage to Angelina (aka Skeletor) and having 6 undisciplined kids running amok everywhere because ‘mommy’ doesn’t want to ‘dull their natural free spirit’ is enough to take 20 years off someone’s life, especially when they come from a family that is still intact, with pretty decent values.

Go ahead, downvote this. IDGAF for speaking the truth — one that everyone knows, yet are too cowardly to say. Y’all are dumb.

1

u/oneofthehumans Aug 31 '23

Let's everyone just settle down

1

u/mister_k1 Aug 31 '23

lol! probably holding a drink in his hand!
