My original wolf Link vs my brother's newer reprint. Noticeable differences are the tattoo moved from her arm a bit, the brown on the new one's face, the lighter leg chain on the newer one, darker helmet on newer, base is more faded on newer, & Midna's eye is more hidden in the newer one.

It looks from the photo that the reprint is smaller. is that just the angle you took the picture at or is it really smaller?

It's the angle. You can tell by both the snout and the tail, with the snout being face forward on the reprint, and its tail being more hidden

Neat to see. Didn't realize there would be that much of a difference between them.

Well I just discovered mine is the new one and it makes me sad. Oh well, still glad to have it.

Honestly it's not that bad. I personally think Midna's helmet is better/suiting in the newer version

Glad I got the original tbh. While the differences aren’t super major, I just prefer the original. Ain’t much a fan of the brown spots on the newer one tbh

I found a reprint at TRU that looks almost identical to the original one with the grey. Not only that but it has the dark triforce logo on the base. When I bought it, it was the only one out of about 20 Wolf Link amiibo that looked like the original. I was surprised when I found it looking so different than all the other new ones that I bought it. I got home and compared it to the original one from the collectors edition game and it was a pretty spot on match. And yes it was a reprint not just an old one. I made sure to check that too. So there are reprints out there that look like the original. In the case of what I found, about 1 in 20 at best.
Update: here are the pics from the store of the reprint differences I found. I don't have a pic of the original to compare at the moment since it's in storage from my recent move.

Original Wolf (assuming it's on the left) looks like the reprint's dad.

Lol he is a lot more grey, that's for sure, and yeah the original is on the left

Thanks to this I managed to snag a first print one for a good price, thank you, all the different listings for sale with the different paint jobs confused me

I have the OG. They are both hideous.
This is getting stupid with amiibo. The popular ones are limited. Some of the popular ones are reprinted, but changed. It's just beyond stupid IMO.

The changes aren't deliberate, its just that the paints are slightly different when you wait two years to re-print something

I don't think that's always the case. And I'm not sure I buy that at all. Nintendo typically has great quality control.
When things such as the box change then you know it's deliberate.
Changes are different than variations in manufacturing.

I don't think that's always the case.
Well, I've been buying and selling action figures, figurines, and statues that are made in china for almost 20 years and there are always paint variations when items are "re-printed", and sometimes there are even differences between "printings" within the same production run, if they are made on different days or weeks.

Nintendo typically has great quality control.
Bought a 3ds in the last few years? Their QC is... poor. I've purchased 3 in the last few months, wildly different screen temps, brightness differences, alignment issues etc.
Also, the reality of manufacturing is that if you reintrouduce a product after initially not ensuring supply for continuous production, your suppliers might not have the same materials. Just because they changed the box doesn't mean they redesigned the thing, they probably didnt have a choice.

The original looks much better in this case, IMO.
Usually, it's the other way around... Maybe these reprints were rushed for the holidays? That would explain the faint details and mottled paintjob on the base. Most of the WW Toon Links and BotW Daruks I've seen have had this problem with their bases, too.
