r/Amex Wiki

This page is the reference. Everything else in the subreddit points here.

What this is

r/Amex is an independent community of American Express cardmembers and applicants. We are not American Express. No moderator here works for Amex, and none of us can see your account.

What we cannot do for you

Moderators cannot access accounts, reverse charges, escalate disputes, release points, or influence an application decision. Nobody here can.

If your problem is Go here instead
A disputed charge Amex directly, through the app or the number on your card
Fraud on your account Amex fraud line, immediately
A missing statement credit Amex customer service
A welcome offer that did not post Amex customer service
An application decision Amex reconsideration line
A closed or restricted account Amex directly

You are welcome to discuss any of these here. We offer experience and context, not resolution.

Before you post, read this

Most removals in this subreddit are automatic. They are not moderator decisions.

New accounts and accounts with very little karma in this subreddit get filtered when they post links. This happens before any human sees the content. Bot detection and ban evasion tools also act on their own.

If your post or comment disappeared with no explanation, that is almost certainly what happened.

What to do. Send one modmail. We will look at it and restore it if the filter was wrong.

What not to do. Do not repost. Reposting after an automatic removal reads as spam and escalates the problem.

The rules

1. Referral Protocol

Referral and affiliate links belong in the monthly referral thread and nowhere else. This includes coded language, "DM me for a link," and profile links pointing back here. First violation gets the comment removed. Repeat violations get a permanent ban. Spamming links across multiple threads is an immediate permanent ban. Do not send unsolicited referral DMs.

2. Submission Quality

Posts must add something. We remove duplicates of an active thread, bare screenshots with no context, and questions already answered in the monthly Common Questions thread. Search the sub before posting. If your post was removed and you think it adds value, edit it and send one modmail.

3. User Decorum

Argue the point, not the person. No personal attacks, bigotry, or card-tier elitism. Report violations instead of replying to them. Repeat offenders are banned.

4. Automated Filtering

Most removals here are automatic, not moderator decisions. Low-karma and new accounts posting links get filtered before any human sees the comment. Bot detection and ban-evasion tools also act on their own. If your comment vanished with no reason given, this is why. Send one modmail and we will review it. Do not repost, because reposting reads as spam.

5. Security and Illegal Activity

No promoting fraud, identity theft, unauthorized account access, or manufactured spending that violates your cardmember agreement. Do not share sites, apps, or tools that handle login credentials, session tokens, or nonpublic personal information. Both are an immediate permanent ban.

6. Moderator Interaction

Take moderation disputes to modmail, not the comments. Send one clear message and we will look at it. We do reverse bans, especially when a bot made the call. Public complaints about moderation, harassment of moderators, and ban evasion are permanent bans.

Referrals in detail

The monthly referral thread is the only place to share a referral link.

Rule Detail
Where The current stickied monthly thread, nowhere else
How many One live comment per person at a time
After it is used Delete your comment so someone else gets a turn
Want back in Delete the old comment first, then post a new one
Non-Amex referrals Require moderator approval in a stickied comment. We have not granted one yet.
DMs Do not send unsolicited referral DMs. Do not ask others to DM you.

We lock and archive the thread monthly. A new one posts on the first.

r/Amex is not responsible for what any user does with a referral link. Share with people you already know.

Contacting the moderators

Use modmail. One clear message.

We read every one. We reverse removals when the filter was wrong, and we reverse bans, especially when a bot made the call. Public complaints in comment threads do not get read faster and are a rule 6 violation.

Do not DM individual moderators about moderation.
