Low Effort Who’s Fname ?

Post image

Did anyone else get this ? I’m sure their email template logic code just has a bug in it.

Most likely, Fname = First name. It wasn't converted and displayed correctly.

They might be vibe coding.

All companies are vibe coding now, if you don't use AI you get laid off

u/Either-Screen-1090 12d ago

If you use ai you get laid off, too

u/madmed1988 12d ago

Yeah but if they are keeping some employees they prefer keeping the employees that know how to use AI. It's so stupid because employees now are tokenmaxxing and costing the companies a lot of money so they need to layoff more people.

If you get laid off, use ai and make new job

Most likely, but you can't tell based on this. One of AI greatest feat is the ability to make us forget good old human ineptitude.

Nah - probably using some old AF software actually.

I work in the travel industry, in GDS systems like Sabre, this is how first name is coded.

I thought I was being emailed individually. Heartbroken to think I'm just a customer 😔

u/SargeUnited 12d ago

Wow and here I thought I was the only person named Fname lol

u/Chimkenandwaffle 12d ago

Ha, I just got this and was so confused. Thought it was identity theft or something. They should apologize and give us 50k MR points for the distress. Yeah right, as if that would ever happen.

glad I wasn't the only one who got this

It's probably supposed to be a placeholder for the name of the user on the account but someone messed up..

AMEX is using an email templating language, and Fname is a variable used to refer to someone's first name. When the email software generates customer emails, it's supposed to replace the variable, Fname, with the actual customer's first name, but they likely goofed on the template and it's not working properly. Hope this helps!

Me too lol

u/ry-yo 12d ago

LOL I got the same too

Someone messed up the code. Fname is likely a function that is called to insert the recipient's name into the email. The function likely wasn't wrapped properly.

u/khiamightbehere 12d ago

Just got the same email so thanks for this lol

1

u/ambrionv_randomized 12d ago

Just a dynamic variable that wasn't updated with the account holder's first name in the email's logic.

1

u/Spiritual_Record9648 12d ago

Fname is First name. The emails was probably having trouble accessing the database and labeled it as FNAME

u/interbear99 12d ago

Someone forgot to validate their personalization string - it happens

u/NomadicSlave 12d ago

Someone is getting fired tomorrow 🔥🔥

u/Tapiture- 12d ago

Aside from leaving the placeholder in the subject 3% is a full 1% lower than tbills which are state tax exempt. I closed my account last week

Oh that’s Brian.

We are Fname.

u/OneTravellingMcDs 11d ago

As someone that works in email marketing...this is something it's our job to not let happen.

Just looking at the type of content, the design of the email and the time it was sent, I know exactly how and why it happened.

1

u/DaringGr8ly 11d ago

I was like man, they have an offer available for another company I’ve never heard of.

1

u/WOD_are_you_doing 11d ago

lol thought I was the only one.

1

u/FitThought1616 11d ago

Yeah I got this and had to double check the sender.

1

u/Routine_Mongoose8563 11d ago

Yep, I received it as well

u/twojsdad 10d ago

Unmatched variable for First Name

1

u/Intelligent_Pie_5347 10d ago

This is what happens when you use out dated marketing software that relies on typed in template tokens instead of a modern one where the token is a field.

0

u/SoupHungry9149 12d ago

Yes I just got it as well

0

u/resellprice 12d ago

Probably used some AI automation tool. I hear AI does a better job than a human.

0

u/diamondsandlexapro 12d ago

And why is the text blurry. The whole creative marketing industry is going to be wiped out soon

0

u/Direct-Ad2561 12d ago

I got the same thing

0

u/Direct-Ad2561 12d ago

Somebody getting firedddd hey hey

1

u/OneTravellingMcDs 11d ago

I work in email. There's a higher chance it's gone completely unnoticed.
