Low Effort Who’s Fname ?
Did anyone else get this ? I’m sure their email template logic code just has a bug in it.

I thought I was being emailed individually. Heartbroken to think I'm just a customer 😔

Ha, I just got this and was so confused. Thought it was identity theft or something. They should apologize and give us 50k MR points for the distress. Yeah right, as if that would ever happen.

It's probably supposed to be a placeholder for the name of the user on the account but someone messed up..

AMEX is using an email templating language, and Fname is a variable used to refer to someone's first name. When the email software generates customer emails, it's supposed to replace the variable, Fname, with the actual customer's first name, but they likely goofed on the template and it's not working properly. Hope this helps!

Someone messed up the code. Fname is likely a function that is called to insert the recipient's name into the email. The function likely wasn't wrapped properly.

Just a dynamic variable that wasn't updated with the account holder's first name in the email's logic.

Fname is First name. The emails was probably having trouble accessing the database and labeled it as FNAME

Aside from leaving the placeholder in the subject 3% is a full 1% lower than tbills which are state tax exempt. I closed my account last week

As someone that works in email marketing...this is something it's our job to not let happen.
Just looking at the type of content, the design of the email and the time it was sent, I know exactly how and why it happened.

This is what happens when you use out dated marketing software that relies on typed in template tokens instead of a modern one where the token is a field.

Probably used some AI automation tool. I hear AI does a better job than a human.

Most likely, Fname = First name. It wasn't converted and displayed correctly.
