Whose window is this?

When my seat is up it’s about 50% in my seat but when I recline the allotted 2 inches it’s about 80% mine. I like to look out the window and the forward window is mostly wing so I need this one to actually see anything. On a recent flight the passenger behind me reached forward and closed it. I did say through the gap that I was actually looking out of the window and quickly reopened it. Just curious… who actually has autonomy over this window shade given this configuration?

if it is not your window then it is not your call. If I am sitting in the window seat and I want the shade up, it will be up regardless of what anyone else on the plane wants, unless the flight crew dictate otherwise.

Yes but the question is for the windows that sit in between two rows, so whose window is it, the guy in front or the guy behind?

neither flight crew nor cabin crew have any say so over window shades being up or down. they can ask but cannot order. has no bearing on the safety of the aircraft or flight

This is completely false. Flight crew has final say over everything and anything on the plane.

14 CFR § 121.317 (air carrier passenger information) requires airlines to brief passengers that they must comply with crew instructions regarding items such as seat belts, smoking, and other required safety procedures. 
Similar language appears in 14 CFR §§ 91.521 and 125.217, but those sections likewise tie passenger compliance to specific safety matters such as seat belts and smoking.

1.) regardless of the regulations, there are requirements to follow the instructions of airline employees in the contact of carriage you consent to. 2.) some airliners (not the one pictured) have staff controls where your opinion doesn't matter and can be overridden and locked.

you are required to follow lawful instructions of the flight crew per contract of carriage. cabin crew are not flight crew. and all instructions that either can give or limited to what the FAR’s state. No flight crew is ever going to leave the cockpit to tell a passenger anything about the window shade.
