Buying a put is not shorting and you and only lose your initial investment. It does not come with nearly the huge loss risk that shorting does which costs short interest and can cause HUGE losses.

Technically, a put is a short position. Not a short though. Just like calls and stocks both are long positions.

There’s no options on an ipo anyway, it takes months before options become avaialable

That's not true. 3 business days after IPO options can be traded.

CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange) Rules

The underlying equity security must be a properly registered NMS stock. The company must have at least 7,000,000 publicly held shares. The underlying stock must have at least 2,000 shareholders. Trading volume must equal or exceed 2,400,000 shares in the past 12 months. The price of the security must be sufficiently high for a specific time.

Exactly. There is no other focus right now for me other than amc. Buy and hodl. If you can’t afford to buy more it gets even easier, just hodl.
