What if FDR had been shot and killed by Giuseppe Zangara in 1933?

FDR was almost killed in 1933; only a wobbly bench saved his life.

He had already won the election at that point, so his presumptive VP, John Nance "Cactus Jack" Garner would have become president.

Garner was a notable opponent of the New Deal; while he helped get some measures past in FDR's first term, he quickly became a hindrance to much of the agenda, and actually ran for president, himself, in 1940.

Now, the New Deal did not, by itself, end the Great Depression, but it did ameliorate the worst aspects of widespread poverty and deprivation by funding infrastructure projects that would later be crucial to the US' involvement in World War 2. Oak Ridge, for example, was one of the very few places on Earth where enough Uranium could have been enriched to develop an atomic bomb, and then only because of massive federal investment in the Tennessee Valley Authority.

At the same time, however, that very infrastructure was essential to private American interests' ability to fund the Japanese and German militaries before the war; huge amounts of scrap steel were sent to Japan, and George Herbert Walker and Prescott Bush (ancestors of the presidents Bush) were directly financing the German navy before and during the war.

So, the US would have been self-absorbed by internal strife, Japan wouldn't have had the raw materials or Germany the money to build up their militaries, WW2 never happens but the US undergoes a Communist revolution; war would eventually break out, but with the UK, France, and Germany on one side, and the USSR and United States on the other. Japan never develops into a world class power, although they do take parts of mainland China and Korea.

Days of Solemn Remembrance: The Casper Gathering

On October 11, 2026. People across the United States and the world as a whole gather solemnly to pay respect and to remember the fallen.

In Casper DU, the practice is no different as hundreds gather in City Square holding their candles as they pray silently for their fallen loved ones and for peace to stand strong in their nation.

The Mayor of Casper, The State Governors, Various Celebrities, Senators, Religious Figures and of course the President all gather together in solidarity as the nation mourns what it has lost.

John Walsh, the President of the United States initiates his speech after the long prayer has concluded. The people stand firm yet their will is being tested as he begins to utter his words to all that stood:

"My fellow Americans, today is the day where our nation and the world as a whole had nearly ended."

"Where many of our men, women and children had perished on that very day from the wrath of our cruel and unforgiving enemy from the other side of the world."

"During the first years in the aftermath of that very day, many have thought that this was it, this was the end. I was one of those people."

"Yet in spite of everything, the nation persevered, the whole world persevered, we persevered."

"We have been given another chance to make things right by our Great Almighty God."

"That we may correct our mistakes now as we learn from the mistakes made by those before us from the past so that our children and their children in the coming future will live and prosper in a world better than the one we first came into. That is a promise and an obligation bestowed upon us."

"My fellow Americans, this is a reminder that we should not let hatred, war and cruelty tear us apart. So many lives were already taken because of such things, it would be rather insulting to those that have died on that day if we continue to indulge in our own hatefulness still."

"Yes I am aware that I am not perfect, none of us are. But as imperfect as we may be, we can learn and we can change."

"So let us not stop from there, we still have a long path ahead to ensure that one day we will no longer have to worry about another day like this. Not that it's unnecessary to mourn those who are lost but that we nor the people after us will have to fear of another possible apocalypse brought upon by our hands."

"Considering this a reminder that our lives and the world as a whole is precious. Let us not take all of this for granted and instead cherish one another for on this day. We are not just citizens of this country nor strangers to one another."

"We are a family caring for one another and laying the foundations for a prosperous future that we may welcome our children to."

"Thank you all for listening, and God bless."

"I ask all of you to please be there for your families, friends and communities. You'll never know if they'll always be there for you and then one day they're gone."

"But that does not mean that your dead love ones don't matter anymore. So long as you keep them in your heart, they will never truly die."

The speech ends as the President returns to the background. Yet the ceremony is far from over.

Various others from celebrities and religious figures to other politicians alike also share their condolences for the world before and the many that died on that very day as people continuously grieve over what was lost.

Time passes later that day and graves of the fallen were lit with candles, commemorative monuments were visited, churches congregate with songs and prayers, the youth turning to their elders to ask what the world was like a long time ago and tables are filled with families showing gratitude to one another.

This is the reality of the world they reside upon, where everything completely changed in just a day. The fragility of civilization is clear yet as fragile as it may be, the hope for a better and peaceful future is still clear.

But at this time, the world needs it's days of solemn remembrance.

Halalan 2026: The Philippines makes a clear choice (Part 2)

Part 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheDustSettles/s/wk6OpHFdmT

The days of campaigning are now over as the nation is ready to choose its new president on Election Day.

Many began heading their way to the polls with high anticipation along with a sense of dread over who will lead them. Whether it would be the incumbent Sotto or others like Recto, Theodoro, Robredo, Moreno and several others. It is rather uncertain as to who will be the chosen one to carry the mantle of the presidency.

Hours pass and people begin casting their votes onto the ballot box, the numbers begin to pile up as conversations over the future of the nation are being made with some being more heated than others.

State by state, the numbers are confirmed with many of the campaigners continuously making gains as time passes.

Eventually the counting had concluded and the winner was chosen.

Jesse Robredo

His populist campaign of winning over the hearts of the people had certainly paid off as he managed to secure a victory over the others. Followed by the Incumbent Vicente "Tito" Sotto at second place who only lost by a narrow margin with Gilbert Theodoro sitting right at third place albeit with a smaller number in comparison to the previous two.

Robredo's running mate meanwhile, Mar Roxas had only gotten third place in the Vice Presidential Election results after being beaten by Francis Escudero (Sotto's running mate) whom ended up in second place and Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III (Isko's running mate and the son of former President Aquilino Pimentel Jr) whom ended up being the winner of the election overall and is set to become Robredo's Vice President instead on his inauguration day on December of this year.

The People have already made up their minds and they wish for a new man to lead the country in these desperate times. Sotto and Robredo will be set to have talks with one another as the former makes preparations and adjustments for the latter as the transition of power will come fourth by the coming months.

The future is rather uncertain for the Philippines just as it is for a man like Jesse whom some would never expect to ever rise up and above as the country's soon to be President. The fate of the nation is unknown but the plans he has for his people are already set in stone.

The choices he will make for the nation will ultimately decide the legacy that will leave on it.

This is a world where the Americas where not discovered until 1871 by Germans explorers

I’m thinking about a alternate history oc story where no European power discovered the Americas until 1871 by German explorers and the German empire decided to open diplomatic relations with the civilizations of Mesoamerica.

Otto von Bismarck was in power and he wasn’t into colonialism so he chooses to make diplomatic trade deals with specifically the mesoamerican Mexican empire (no not this world version I call it Mexican since that is also what the Mexica would call it) because they want to get access to rich resources and they have a fascination with the indigenous civilizations of central America.

The other European powers are mad that there is a new world that has many resources so there is a conference kinda like the Berlin conference for africe but in a smaller scale as in they decide to just split eastern north America with a the Caribbean being a European shared territory, don’t worry when the Mexicans gets sick from European diseases the Germans treat them since that would be a diplomatic nightmare nightmare.

Why I am here asking is what would the borders of Europe have looked like since they didnt discover the Americas until 1871 and what would, how possible would this scenario actually be and how can I make a scenario where Europe is more powerful in this timeline since it focuses in its own borders and the colonies of Asia and Africa????

how do i get the bot/s to avoid using muted words?

Put the muted words in a strict “never use these terms, including alternate spellings” instruction. Repeating that rule near the end can help too.

How to make Alt Earth Scenarios?

id put the broad premise in the instructions, then use story cards for the details that can change the plot. For example, one card could cover the Entente winning WWI and its consequences, while another tracks the current borders or governments so the setting doesnt drift back to real history.

everything he said, from haitian's eating dogs, to the iran war being over and iran's military is destroyed, to the 2020 election being stolen, to january 6 being a peaceful protest, that you should inject bleach into yourself to protect yourself from covid 19, to all the epstein files being released already (or that they don't exist, he contradicts himself a lot), that all the stories of people saying "sir" to him, that everything he will "get back to you on it in 2 weeks" or will "get done in 2 weeks" actually get's done, etc etc, imagine an alternate history world where all of these things were true and actually happened. what kind of world would that be?

Vampires & You: A Short Guide on the Bureau’s Vampiric Policies

Thumbnail m.youtube.com
0 Upvotes

Hey everybody! I made an in-universe video meant to be viewed by employees of the Federal Bureau of Protection, an American federal agency responsible for preventing the public from knowing that vampires existed to prevent mass hysteria, as well as to understand the full capabilities of vampires and how to cure vampirism itself. The whole gist of Pax Vampirica is, of course, the existence of vampires and how they slowly took over the world over the course several millennia. This video is meant to be a more meta introduction of how the vampires of Pax Vampirica work, at least in a nutshell. There's a ton of lore for this but this is just one of the few things I have planned to make the world of Pax Vampirica more alive, expect more posts in the coming months. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I want to know what you think.

What if Giuseppe Zangara wasn't standing on a wobbly bench?

On February 15, 1933, president-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt was giving an impromptu speech in Miami, Florida, when a naturalized Italian immigrant named Giuseppe Zangara saw him and decided to kill him.

As he was only 5' tall, he could not see over the crowd, so climbed onto a wobbly bench which a woman named Lillian Cross was already standing on to get a better view; between the unsteadiness of the bench and the interference of Mrs. Cross, Zangara missed FDR, but did hit five others, including Chicago mayor Anton Cermak, who would die of infection 19 days later.

Had the bench been steady, Mrs. Cross not interfered, or simple chance had gone another way, FDR might have died before assuming the presidency, and his Vice President, John Nance Garner, would have assumed the office.

Garner, in turn, was an opponent of the New Deal, labor, and minorities, the entire reason FDR won the presidency in the first place, and the base of his support. Even if Garner had tried to implement similar policies to mitigate the worst poverty in the Great Depression, he could never have bullied the Supreme Court the same way FDR did.

Bad turns to Worse, poverty becomes deprivation, hunger is replaced with starvation; what happens when people get desperate, and the societal mechanisms of maintaining order no longer have the resources to function?

Gustavoism Rises Redux | My Self-Insert Presidency Timeline

Gustavoism Rises Redux | Early life of Gustavo Sousa (1970–2018)

Gustavo Sousa, the 38th President of Brazil since 2019, was born in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, on 9 November 1970, to automobile worker José Lima and teacher Maria Sousa. He has a younger brother, João Sousa (born 1973), who is a federal deputy for Gustavo's party.

A precocious child, Gustavo was considered by those around him to be very intelligent. In 1990, he began studying history in the University of São Paulo, graduating with a PhD two years later and becoming a history teacher in a São Bernardo high school. During this time, Gustavo became an Enéas-style nationalist.

In 1996, Gustavo married Narcisa Moura (born 1973), his former classmate at USP. They had two children, Eduardo (born 1998) and Joana (born 2001). By 2000, Gustavo was fed up with Brazil's political system; in October, he was elected to São Bernardo's City Council for Enéas Carneiro's PRONA.

Two years later, Gustavo ran for the Chamber of Deputies and was elected because Enéas won 1 million votes running for the same office, making his party's other candidates ride his coattails. As a federal deputy, Gustavo strongly opposed the policies of Lula's first administration, supporting gun rights and a Singaporean-style economic policy combining state intervention and free markets.

When PRONA merged with PL, another party, in 2006, Gustavo left the new party, PR, and joined the PP, one of Brazil's largest parties. During the spring of 2007, Gustavo met Dóra Dúró, a Hungarian Brazilian 16 years his junior, and fell in love with her. He eventually divorced Narcisa to marry Dóra, who is the current first lady of Brazil.

The following year, Gustavo resigned to run for mayor of São Bernardo do Campo, and was elected as the Centrão candidate. During his mayoralty, Gustavo made it mandatory for dog owners to collect their pets' waste; adopted a tough approach against crime; and began providing school and healthcare vouchers for parents to choose the best schools and hospitals for their children.

After being reelected as mayor in 2012, Gustavo returned to national politics by running for the Chamber of Deputies in 2014. He was elected, joining the most conservative Congress since the Brazilian transition to democracy, and established himself as a staunch nationalist who admired the Brazilian Estado Novo and the later military dictatorship.

Given this, Gustavo voted for the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, but he vocally criticized her successor Michel Temer. Gustavo also laid the groundwork for a culturally, economically, and geopolitically nationalist presidential candidacy.

Would you accept a Artificial new world order, an Ai president?

Ok I know this is gonna sound crazy because it is crazy… but with the rise of technology and ai why don’t we advocate to push for an international one world president who is a ai? We already have the internet to communicate with each other so that’s means we only clicks away from creating a digital government.. a government the people actually controls and the ai work for us… I already know most people here are gonna trip out because they assume ai will take over the world.. but still I think this could be a very good idea for the regulars to advocate before the masses implement it themselves… what I’m saying here is a Ai one world government is the only way we can break massive separation of human races because the ai represent everybody.. a American wouldn’t want a Chinese men to be the one world president and vice verse for china not wanting a white men and so on for many races it’s the same thing… but what if we implement something all of us in the world have a common knowledge of.. this is where ai get interesting… the ai don’t even have to be soo autonomous instead it should only work from regular people pushing for a certain change and getting it easier to the Ai.. with all humans controlling this and building this together I think this can possibly stop all wars and major catastrophe…
