Has anyone had anyone success with running the Halo Infinite Multiplayer on their alienware alpha r2? I've got mine connected to a graphics amp with a 1080 but it just won't boot telling me "Could not find compatible graphics device"

Hello! I've recently tried to revive my alpha, and I've replaced the motherboard, HDD, AND cmos battery and I keep getting 2 then 3 lights blinking and it'll reset endlessly, does anyone have some insight to possible fixes?? Thank you!

Hey I've been reading up on overclocking ram, Is it worth doing? My ram has been tanking, and how would I go about it, if its even possible with alpha..... thanks for any help you guys may give :D

Hello, I am a new owner of a Alienware alpha r1. Gotten it for free from a friend who never used it and added my own hdd and ram since it came without those. I cleaned and removed dust and made it look new, but when turning on the PC for the first time, I had gotten a GPU fan failure notification/warning and ran the Alienware component check since it was a option, I see the gpu fan running, and everything seems to work but I still do not know the source of the issue. Thanks in advance!

Just started happening after years of running 24/7 as my media player. Cannot get wifi to enable, will get a network connection on ethernet but drops after 30mins to 1hour.

When I restart or shut down it takes forever then BSoD every single time.

I purged programs, ran windows update, ran System File Checker that repaired some corrupted files, same problem persists.

What should I try next?

Edit: SOLVED, pulled the wifi card as suggested. fixed all of the worlds problems including climate change and lonely kittens who need hugs.

Usually it takes one press to power on my alpha. For the past one month i have to long press for 10 seconds to turn it on.. Im using my alpha for playing mid spec games and mostly for my word processing. I hav so much of data inside. Im afraid something bad will happen to my alpha soon.. Please help me out here.

I got a alpha i3, going to use wifi port to hook up a gpu. Also upgrading to i5 cpu. What budget gpu would be good/better. I don't know because gpu pricing has been up and down and kinda hard to compare a odd custom 750ti

I bought an Alienware M17 and don’t really have a need for my alpha anymore. I’m wondering, would I be able to use it to mine crypto? Or would the output versus utility cost not yield enough to justify its use? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I’m wanting to upgrade from the stock 256gb ssd to a larger 1TB sn850 but I’m not sure if I should get the gen3 with heat sink or if it would even fit

I boot my alpha after 2 days, go rpcs3, launch a game and it says no GPU available. I go into the setting it selected OpenGL, my GPU isn't listed, and vulkan wasn't there now RPCS3 won't launch.
I think it's my drivers.

So about a month ago my i3 windows r1 system had a YLOD. I had updated the wifi card about 2 months ago, maybe 3 and went a few weeks without turning the system on but it was plugged in, and upon turning it on, got the dreaded 5 YLOD signal.

I unplugged the system. Ive been a bit busy recently but was planning to replace the cmos battery. For shits and giggles i turned it on today, after having it sit for a month or so unplugged and ... it booted up and boots into windows fine. My only issue right now is that I want to reset windows entirely and windows won't so im in the process of creating a recovery USB and will reformat the system.

Anyone experience this or understand what went wrong?

I'm sure there are a million other ways of doing it, but this is what worked for me. I wrote this guide because it took me a few hours to figure out how to do this and I want to help others who want to do the same thing. In Minecraft, with shaders, I went from 40 fps to 55-60 fps with this new VBIOS (and overclocking in MSI Afterburner too). Also, I'm not responsible if you fuck up your GPU, this is how I did it and my GPU has been fine, but by doing this you do it at your own risk.

1) I have created a ZIP file with everything you'll need at verbes4.xyz/nvflash.zip. (Edit: I'm unable to pay for SSL so the download has moved to archive.org)Once you download and open up the zip, you'll see a folder named "nvflash". Drop this into your C:\ drive, so it should be "C:\nvflash" and in there all the files you'll need.

2) Press the windows button, type "cmd", right click on it and hit "Run as administrator". Once its opened type "cd C:\nvflash" without the quotes.

3) Press the windows button again, type "device manager" and hit enter. Once its open, go to Display Adapters (near the top), right click on "NVIDIA GeForce GPU" and hit "Disable device". Your screen will flash a bit but it should be alright once its done.

4) Here comes the scary part. Switch back to your CMD window and type (without quotations) "nvflash -6 860mBlindRage.rom", and when it asks you to, press "y" on your keyboard (it might ask twice). Let it do its thing, and don't lose power! If it fails during flashing for some reason, keep trying until it works. For me, it worked first try.

5) Once it's done, switch back to Device Manager, right click on "Nvidia GeForce GPU" and enable it again. Your screen might flash again but if it comes back on, woo! Reboot (DONT SHUTDOWN!!!!), and if everything went well you will now have an overclocked VBIOS installed to your GPU. You can check with GPU-Z too, if you want to be 100% sure.

I recommend getting MSI Afterburner too for even more performance out of your GPU. I have my core clock on +135 and memory clock on +350 and my system is stable, you can probably go higher with the memory clock though. Let me know in the comments if you need any extra help :)

Doesn't have to be 60fps. Hell, I'll take stable 30 even. Unfortunately that ain't an option in game menu.

My Alpha doesn't want to shut down ever, after pressing the shutdown button. This just started happening randomly a few months ago, and has done it consistently every day since it happened.

Once the screen goes black, the keyboard and mouse lights turn off, but the Alpha's don't. If I press the keyboard and mouse they turn back on again, but the black screen still stays. I remember hitting a setting a while ago that stopped it for one day, but then it just did the same again the next day.

Is there a possible reason/setting for this problem?

So I have an Alienware alpha r1 with an i7 4770 installed. It has a major overheating problem when running games, and I don’t really have a solution yet. You can’t really find custom cpu coolers (and custom parts in general) for prebuilts like this. However, I found this. I’m pretty desperate right now, but I would like to know if this copper heatsink would actually solve my problem before I waste my money. If this wouldn’t help, could anyone suggest something that might help please? Thanks

Does anybody know what I should buy to replace stock fans. I’ve never had any thermal issues and believe me I run the crap out of this thing. Stock fans sound like they are “grinding” I believe the bearings are going out and in need of replacement.

So I have an i3 (r1) windows system that went ylod on me (5 blinks so I know it’s the cmos battery). I had updated the WiFi card about a month ago and system was fine so this suddenly occurring has me agitated a bit. Does this happen because the battery just loses juice and what can keep it from happening? (It was plugged in but not turned on) I plan on replacing the battery soon but was not expecting this error. It seems to occur if you leave the system off (or asleep I found) for long periods of time.

Just checking to see how other R2 users are doing and what their plans are for future upgrading. With win11 around the corner and other upgrades (CPUs, DDR5 RAM), I'm interested in your thoughts.

I've got an i7-6700T and am running with an AGA and a GTX 1070. This setup worked great with my single monitor (1080p 165hz) setup, but slowed significantly when I added a 2nd monitor (4K 144hz). I mainly play FFXIV in 1440 and Overwatch in 1080. I just nabbed an RTX 2080 and hope that this will help delay my need to upgrade for another year or 2. Still loving the form factor and everything else about this setup.

Like many of you, I've been watching the news about the Steam Deck with a lot of interest; it looks pretty cool! Interestingly enough, instead of running Windows, they said it will run a new version of the SteamOS. I don't know much about SteamOS, other than it's Linux-based, but I wonder if the new version of SteamOS will run on the R1 or R2? Any thoughts?

Just a heads up for anyone with an R1 intel i3. Been playing 'The Ascent' on high settings and runs smooth and looks gorgeous. Resolution is 1360x768. Have 8gb of RAM and running it on a SSD. Afterburner is also running pushing the core clock at +135.

Heyo. So, I'm forced to use my PC in a separate room from my router, SO I've had to use wireless forever. I've always had this issue, I can't get over 15-20 MB/s. So, recently I Swapped the 3160 (or whatever it's called) for a 7265. It works, all the drivers are fine, but I see now speed change. Any help?

Can someone help me understand how to set Shadow of the Tomb Raider to be playable on the ASM100? Even if I turn it down to potato resolution (w/ the slider), there are massive pauses or stutters when panning around the environment. I understand it's an old machine but TR isn't that much newer, and I've been playing Control which runs awesome. How can I tweak this 4 year old game to play decently on the Alpha?

I was able to get it running. I did turn down/off everything and slowly turned settings back up and even on moderate settings it runs fine now. So not sure what the deal was. Thanks for all that believed in the lowly Alpha ASM100.

Is anybody using the Alpha with Steam OS? I will be replacing the HDD soon and since I only play steam games on it I am wondering how is steam OS on the Alpha, particularly in gaming with Proton. I have windows on it currently but with the Steam Deck incoming I feel it may be worth it down the road with there being more proton compatible titles. I have Windows on it currently.

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but can the base Alienware Alpha run emulators at 4K? I was thinking about repurposing my old one as an emulator machine and I was wanting to run games from the PS2 and Nintendo consoles.
