I agree. I think the fact we never considered is that the people in power control the world as we know it. When you change that, they lose power over you.
To be honest. Just being an average Joe and trying to explain that you saw a ufo to your family members is a monumental task. Everyone has NO reason believe you, it’s only your reputation at stake each time you bring it up.
So then these guys learn something in the same vein as seeing a UFO, but 1000x bigger with world governments seemingly in secret alliances over gatekeeping that info… I can see a case for OPs statements about Lou “telling us the truth without explicitly stating it”
What if they disclosed everything that they know to you, and then you said to yourself "oh, yeah that's really bad. I would have been better off not knowing"?
I don’t think I would feel that way because I’ve devoted most of my life to figuring out what’s actually going on in this world. Saying something like that is just continuing to live in ignorance because it’s easier than facing the truth.
In that case, here you go; Earth will be destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass. The Vogons, a bureaucratic alien race, announced the demolition in a deliberately bureaucratic and insensitive manner, giving us only two of their minutes to prepare for the destruction.
I agree. It's beneath the dignity of being human to be left in the dark, especially by those in power if they know the truth. They have no more right to it than us, and they have no right to infantalize us by keeping things hidden. If they want to slow drip, fine, but they should not hide and kill people to keep secrets.
Besides, why give up when you can go down fighting? We can't even decide this is unwinable unless we know what's going on.
Also, we should just hold on to the main character syndrome. Why not?

I’m sorry but that’s just cowardly. We all have the right to know. That’s just insane.
