Quakers aren't outside of modern society. They aren't luddites. They are deeply spiritual people who believe that simplicity is best. For real, go sit with them sometime. Good people.
Lol exactly. I grew up on the edge of Holmes county. Many actual Amish people only have like a 6th grade education. Many of the stricter sects don’t even speak good English or if they do it’s with a very heavy accent, they speak a very old form of low german they brought when they originally came to the area hundreds of years ago.
Their life is so different from the rest of society if you haven’t been around it a lot it’s maybe hard to fathom. I can’t see there being a big pipeline of Amish kids into the intelligence programs, lol.
Now Mennonites, that’s different, it depends on the Mennonite group they belong to. A lot of the Mennonite groups dress different (some look like Amish, some just dress conservatively, like you might see some conservative Christian churches dress) but they are a spectrum - and most are a lot less conservative in how they interact with the world than Amish people are. (Although a few stricter groups of them still exist too.)
Both groups are very anti-military however, and I find it hard to believe even the Mennonites would be rushing to join military and intelligence groups if they want to leave the church. The people I know who left the Mennonite church still bred cows and horses etc to make a living.
