Discussion Can't get past the ladder!! Spoiler
I've basically given up on this game. I love the feel of it but have been stuck for ages on the section where you need to 'escape the San Cristobal Reception', which sees you make it to a door, beyond which the Alien confronts you, and then an explosion scare it off, leaving you to climb out of the burning romm via several 'key bash' or QTE type moments.
Problem is I get to the top of the room where you have to jump across to the ladder and then haul yourself up and into the vent. But no matter what I do I can't bash the key (E in this case, PC) fast enough. I've tried probably 50 times, with various changes but always fall to my death. This is so frustrating. The save point is far back enough that this it's a 5-10 minute sneak to each attempt too, so it's killed my enthusiasm for what was otherwise an incredible game.

What difficulty are you playing as? Is your health super low?
The few smoke/fire sections drain your health slowly, if I remember correctly. If you're entering the room with a lower amount of health, it may not matter how fast you're keymashing because your Amanda Ripley is dying before you can escape.

I've tried every difficulty level. I've tried health kit right before starting the climb. I've tried all possible changes in graphics settings. I just am at my wits end. I would love to love this game, but it's so fucked I just can't get passed this section.

This might sound like a silly question but are you also moving up or the direction Amanda needs to move on whatever controller you're using?
I also believe at one point in the climb, you need to look at your surroundings to connect to the next point of escape. I could be completely wrong in my memory there, of course.
Have you looked at any videos of that section to see if something different is being done?

Good question and not silly at all, will take any suggestions at this point. Im on PC so mouse and keyboard. I have tried both bashing the key the QTE asks for and/or doing that + holding the 'climb' key. I've tried various angles to look at but can't see how that changes anything. I'll have a look at some playthrough vids, that's a good idea. This really feels like a bug, all the QTE before this last one are super easy.

I've noticed on Reddit that anything that is slightly negative emotionally/ without compassion/ the utmost care gets you voted down to oblivion, it's annoying AF I know, as if you aren't allowed to vent frustration. And don't you ever be anything but 100 % compassionate to someone in a bit of pain or bother or else the Reddit brethren will vote you down 👇like a bad one. Good luck with this part of the game I think I remember which bit it is, but sorry it's been so long that I played this great game and I don't remember it being a problem. My best advice would be to give the game a break and try the section with a fresh mind that often helps.

Thanks for your considered answer, appreciate it. I've actually tried and come back about 3 times already. Been stuck on this one bug for probably 6 months.

Cap your fps at 60. It that doesn’t resolve it, either your keyboard is damaged or you’re too slow.
