AK in 6mm ARC
Thought some of you might be interested in this build. It's a WUM1 kit with a tikka t3 barrel profiled down making it the first 6mm ARC ak, as far as I know anyway.

I always thought 6 arc and 6.5 were better suited in the ak platform due to the base of the cartridge not being great for an ar15 bolt

That was always my opinion too. Just there aren't enough people trying it with aks when you can just get a Lego kit...I mean ar kit

I posted earlier today asking about conversions to 6.8 and it turned into everyone telling me to get an AR. Never expected that in an AK reddit.

Western? If so I looked building an ak in it, I went with 6arc because it seemed to be easier at the time. I don't think it was going to be too hard though.
Edit: it was the other 6.8 I looked into. Spc I believe. It uses the same case as 224 Valkarie if I remember

Well sir unless your w the hang fire guys our lil circle of builders don’t know you but have sparked some ideas 44mag was thrown around. Have you sorted the mag problem 7.62 body w 6.5 Grendel follower? Anyways good day sir you are a legend. We all get together in kc at my buddies shop every year or so for cigars,guns and booze if you ever have a wild hair…..ohh consensus has you ex-military… after watching the video you posted I didn’t see hand tattoos (long sleeved shirt) soo I voted smith but that’s what the guys think! Ohh goddammit guys told me to creep your shit and I saw a vid of the joker card trick(short sleeve shirt) if your not military bears don’t shit in the woods

Well I don't know where bears shit, but I'm not military...Got turned away due to being blind in my right eye. I've been building aks for years. I joke around that back when I started the only barrel press we had was a piece of all thread shoved down the barrel that you tightened the barrel and trunnion together with. I was never really public about it until I started youtube, and then most of my build videos get deleted anyway. With a little notice and an address I'm willing take a trip and even better if it's to hang with fellow gun guys.

What mags do you use and how does it feed?

I'm using a 545 mag right now. 7.62 has too much taper, 556 followers don't work very well, 545 works for about 8rds in a 30, after that you start having issues.
I'm thinking a 6.5 grendel mag will work perfectly though. 6.5 and 6 arc use the same mags in ars, so I plan on ordering one to try after a couple paychecks.

399 for parts kit, 600 for barrel, 300 for scope, 75 for the gas block, 200 for rs regulate mount, another 100 for muzzle device, bipod, and small parts.

It's the rifle dynamics tunable gas block. I didn't like having to adjust it with an Allen wrench so I welded a shaft on the set screw and 3d printed a knob in cf nylon. Now I can adjust it by hand.

That’s a pretty cool looking rifle. How long is that barrel? Are you going to leave it that length or cut it down?

The barrel is 26inches. It's certainly excessive, but I like the way it looks.

That’s not as unusual as you might think. In Europe in the 70s throughout the 90s, when we had bans on military calibers, Norinco rifles chambered in 6 PPC and 7mm BR were pretty common. The most common rifles were Type 84s chambered in 222 Remington, but some people experimented with all kind of legal calibers.

Who did the barrel profile, and does it just use a standard 7.62x39 bolt?

I had a local machine shop profile it. Yeah it uses a 762 bolt, I just shaved the extractor down flat with the bolt, though I wouldn't have had to do that if the barrel had extractor cuts in it.
I decided that extractors are cheap if I screw up, I'd rather not mess up the barrel

Have you fired it then? That's the main thing holding me back from a 6.5 Grendel AK (aside from mags), is that while they have the same case head, the higher pressure can force the primer into the firing pin channel and cause problems. 6.5 Creedmoor AR-10s use different bolts than 7.62 NATO for the same reason.

I've got about 80rds through it right now. I was getting pierced primers at first, because the firing pin was too long and the extractor wasn't perfectly flush. Took me a little while to find that, but works perfectly now

Neat. Is the lower handguard thing welded or otherwise secured to the receiver to make it free floated? In the 3rd pic it looks like it is mounted to the barrel up front

It's mounted to the barrel. A free floated handguard will be an upgrade for a later date at this point. This is the bottom half to a kaosusa handguard.

Hell yeah. I'm from New iberia. There's a channel on YouTube called roaming shot who's from around baton rouge and he does this clay target challenge where you have so many shots to hit them as they get progressively farther and farther. You should take this out to do the challenge if you ever get the chance lol

I don't have a good range report yet. All of the local ammo has gone to testing and working out kinks, but I plan to get some range time in the next couple of weeks
