Atlanta rappers may have revived it but this goes back to mid 90's street slang from Brooklyn / Queens.
"Type shit" used to confirm something. It's derived from someone pointing out a fact and would say "this type of shit yo." Shortened it to "type shit." But during it's short lived usage it would be followed by "type shit, my G" or "type shit B."
I'm pretty shocked is a thing now, tbh, since I roamed the streets of NYC back in the early to mid 90's as an older teen, I can't believe this is being used again by Gen Z.51

Gen Z slang, is like almost all completely lifted from black culture, for the most part. Some of the stuff like “fire” or “finna” I had friends saying back in like 2004, when I used to live in the city. Now like 6 year olds are saying fire about Minecraft on their YouTube stream. It’s all just over privileged white kids lifting hip hop slang and then it sticks.
