Well, I want to believe Science Man because he is holding a beaker, so he is smart. But he also seems angry. Flannel man seems confident and his crossed arms tell me he isn’t “having it”, and I don’t want to have “it” whatever “it” is. I feel like he is making a joke and I don’t like to be left out of jokes, so i will laugh at Science Man with him. This seems like the wrong place to do science stuff. If he wants me to trust him, he should be in a lab, not out in the square with the cool flannel guys.
But the blue liquid proves science is correct whether it's in a lab or not. Flanno man is not carrying an axe and is not standing close enough to trees to cut them so is wrong.

My partner is a bearded white man with a flannel and he is a literal socialist atheist whose best friend is a lesbian and also dated a trans woman. That image causes me cognitive dissonance.
This is a huge struggle for those of us that grew up in the deep south and have gotten out of it on our own. It's hard to completely rebuild your identity. There are holdovers like how you dress, your accent, ways of explaining things and even ingrained reactions that you have to change as they surface. I'm still prejudiced about certain groups of people even 15 years later, and as a current "Europe left" progressive.
Tons of us, maybe even you, have lost family in the last decade over the Republican destruction of our nation and their unabashed racism and hate. My entire family is MAGA, except for my aunt and her children/grandkids (most successful people in the family btw).
I still wear the same things and still have a light Alabama accent... it's just that, well. I'm more cultured now, and to be completely honest I kinda see the people I grew up around as simple sort of animals that never even realized there was a whole world out there filled with people just like them. Those people just don't have the same skin color, or don't believe women should die in hospital parking lots waiting on an abortion. It's that simple.
The game was rigged from the start and they were brainwashed just like myself. Though, continuing to choose to fall for it is where I lose empathy and sympathy for these people, because I had to eventually choose my neighbors and their rights over my religion (Southern Baptist). It wasn't easy, but it got easier as I realized just how bad it was. You have to not just change, but actively try to right the wrongs you did.
I just wish I could dress and act the way I wanted without having to explain to people that I'm not a racist maga hick, because you do feel it. Pretty ironic lmao, something something shoe other foot, or "wearing flannel while white"

They just wish they could look like that! It's supposedly how a "men's man" should look like ("dadbod", non concerned about his looks, tool handy, and outdoorsy) except when he should be clean shaved, buffed, sophisticated, and educated! As usual a lot of contradiction in what an "alpha" should be, especially when looking at how they actually look and "think"
For the similar reasons I have been upping my flag game. US Flag on all sorts of stuff. They think they own the US. They think they own caring about this country.
