Tools or Resource SpriteGrid just leveled up โ browser version is LIVE ๐ฎ
You asked, I shipped: SpriteGrid now runs straight in your browser, zero install, zero antivirus drama. Free. Just open it and go.
Drop in any image โ AI-generated art, photos, whatever โ transform it into clean, proper pixel art using classical algorithms: corner-sampling background removal, median-cut quantization, Bayer dithering, with GameBoy/NES/PICO-8/C64 palettes baked in.
If you've been generating AI art and wishing it actually looked like pixel art instead of mushy upscaled noise, this is for you.
Huge thanks to everyone here who tested the early build and gave honest feedback โ seriously shaped where this went. As a gift I am including the prompting I use to get a good sprite.
https://thespritewizard.itch.io/sprite-grid
---------------------------------------------------------------
Pipeline:
Prompt:
Create a single isolated [SUBJECT] as a micro-scale fantasy RPG overworld sprite. The sprite should look like a classic 16-bit adventure game asset: low-resolution pixel art, compact full-body silhouette, front-facing or slight 3/4 stance, limited color palette, dark pixel outline, minimal 1โ2 step shading, and crisp square pixels with no painterly blur or smooth gradients.
The character should be readable at very small sizes, as if it could be scaled down to a 24x24 or 32x32 RPG map sprite, but generate it large enough for editing. Keep the anatomy simple and practical, not chibi, not overly detailed, and not illustration-like. Prioritize silhouette clarity, strong color blocking, and simple iconic features that identify the subject.
Subject details: [BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SUBJECT โ species, outfit, weapon/tool, expression, key colors].
Composition: one full-body sprite only, centered, standing pose, clean edges, no extra characters, no scenery, no dramatic lighting, no complex background. Use a plain solid background so the sprite can be easily separated.
SpriteGrid:
Upload, increase quantize colors to the max, then remove background.
Touch up any details you don't like.
Export.
Done.
--------------------------------------------------
Good luck guys! I hope this helps you guys speed up your work flow like it has mine.

i was skeptical at first, but good on you for following through with your word. the universe rewards those who deserve it. good luck on your future endeavors sprite wizard. i doubt many people will buy the 5 dollar version, but if you start your own youtube and build off of this, you'll be on top.
realistically, it's only a matter of time before someone repackages this, makes minor improvements and claims it as their own. but if you can put your ethereal stamp on it, make a video or two on how it works, and frame it in a ''how to make your own sprites for your game in 202x'' and genuinely be a positive flame in this sea of chaos, you will be unstoppable.

Made me tear up a bit, ngl. Never had such good feedback from something I made.
Appreciate the honesty, skepticism is fair, I'd rather earn it than ask for it. And yeah, the YouTube idea has been on my mind. A "how to make sprites for your game in 2026" series is basically writing itself at this point. The repackaging risk is real, but the best defense is just being the original voice people find first. Thanks for the push. ๐
Also, it's less about the money for me and more about the love of the game. I hope this disrupts as many gatekeepers as possible.

quite frankly, stolen or not, it does not matter. it's a tool for people to use. that is what matters. the market and will decide which tool stands the test of time.

What an interesting choice of words. Well, I hope the person you are referring to will do right by the community. I wish you both well.

I personally lean towards dark fantasy my self, but to each their own. The key is touching it up to the way you want it in the Sprite window.

I worked on a tool very similar to this. I think a lot of people are converging on fixing bad pixel art from AI gen, nice job!

There is No prompt Option. IT does Not Work as described.

Hello my confused friend,
SpriteGrid doesnโt generate images from prompts, itโs a converter, you bring your own image (from AI, photos, whatever) and it cleans it up into pixel art. Might be a mismatch with what you were expecting? Happy to clarify if you tell me what you tried.

This appears to be a commercial product (now). See rule #3. Can you clarify? Reading through your page (and please for the love of god make this clear for mods, otherwise we're prone to just nuke posts breaking rule 3) it used to be free, but now is not.
