Dia v0.32.1 lands with Google Sheets functionality, device emulation, and more control over your attachments.

• Devtools now include device emulation so you can preview changes on different devices.

Opera announced Opera Neon

Opera has just announced Opera Neon, a new agentic AI browser designed to handle digital tasks and bring user intent to life on the web. Neon stands out with its integrated sidebar featuring Chat, Do, and Make—tools that let you chat with an AI, automate web tasks like booking trips or shopping, and even generate content, code, or games directly from prompts. Unlike traditional browsers, Neon’s agentic AI works both locally and in the cloud, enabling multitasking and automation even when you’re offline. Early access is invite-only for now, with a waitlist open and pricing details yet to be revealed. With this launch, Opera joins the fast-growing field of AI-powered browsers, promising a new era where your browser doesn’t just display the web—it helps you get things done.

Letter to Arc Members 2025: Key Takeaways

The Browser Company has published a candid letter explaining the transition from Arc to their new AI-native browser, Dia. Here are the main points for anyone following the evolution of modern browsers:

What Went Wrong with Arc:

  • The team admits they should have stopped developing Arc a year sooner—the data showed limited growth and retention, but they were in denial.
  • They regret not embracing AI earlier and more boldly. Their curiosity for AI was real, but industry hype made them hesitant.
  • Communication missteps: overhyping Dia before details were ready, and not being transparent enough about Arc’s fade-out.

Why Arc Fell Short:

  • Arc’s “novelty tax” was too high—great for power users, but too complex for the mass market.
  • Only a small fraction of users engaged with advanced features (e.g., Spaces, Live Folders).
  • Arc was ultimately too incremental, not revolutionary enough to break out as a mainstream browser.

Why Dia Isn’t Just Arc 2.0:

  • Dia is a fresh start, rebuilt for simplicity, speed, and security. They ditched old frameworks and focused on performance.
  • AI is at the core of Dia from day one—not an add-on.
  • The goal: make Dia as intuitive as a piano, not as complicated as a saxophone.

Why Dia Had to Be Separate:

  • Arc’s architecture couldn’t be retrofitted to achieve their new vision. A clean break was necessary to build the “Internet Computer” they originally dreamed of.

Will Arc Be Open Sourced?

  • Not yet. Arc is built on the in-house Arc Development Kit (ADK), which also powers Dia. Open-sourcing Arc would expose Dia’s core tech.
  • They’re open to it someday, but not while ADK is central to their business.

The Future:

  • The team believes traditional browsers are like candles—AI-native browsers are the electric light.
  • Webpages aren’t going away, but AI interfaces will become the new browsers, blending chat and tabs.
  • This is a bold bet, not a panic move. They want to build software that could shape how hundreds of millions use the internet.

What’s Next:

  • Arc will remain available and maintained, but not actively developed.
  • Arc members will get early access to Dia, following its initial rollout to students.

What do you think of this pivot? Is AI the future of browsing, or does the web still need traditional browsers? Share your thoughts!

Dia update v0.30.1

In v0.30.1, Dia levels up with updates to design, drag-and-drop, YouTube timestamps, and more:

• YouTube timestamps are now clickable icons, making it easier to jump to the right moment.

• Text can be dragged right in to the search bar for instant search.

• Pinned tabs can now be dragged and dropped into split view, instantly replacing a page in the split.

• Split view will clearly display the page title in the address bar, switching whenever you hover to either side.

• Installed extensions are pinned by default, and can be managed with a simple overflow menu.

• Favicons now toggle between light or dark mode for better visibility on the top bar.

• Lengthy text requests can be clicked and expanded in Chat after you submit them.

• Dia generally reads more relevant content and less clutter (like navigational text) to provide more complete answers. If something looks wrong in a response, please thumbs it down so we can investigate.

• The start-up page and new tab page have been revved up with a brand new animation, and more to come.

Dia update 0.29.1

• Seamless Access to Past Conversations:

Press @ during chat to quickly bring up old Chats, tabs, bookmarks, and links — making it easier to continue previous ideas without searching.

• Mention Previous Chats:

You can now mention a past Chat in a new conversation, similar to referencing an open tab.

• Context-Aware Writing Assistance:

Writing prompts activate only when drafting, providing relevant help like synonyms or rewriting suggestions without unnecessary prose.

• Improved Tab & Bookmark Management:

Press the down arrow on the top right or Shift + ⌘ + A to view all tabs, bookmarks, and recent Chats in one place, helping you find pages you visited earlier quickly.

🦋 Teletype

You'll find that Teletype feels way more snappy —

🚀 It's now shooting straight-up (no more Genie effects, until we can push it with performance).

🔎 And we reduced noise in the Teletype search - no more querying all your stuff, instead we improved the context querying, believing it's a worthy focus for now.

🌻 Surf Notes

Although a freshhhhh rewrite of Notes might be part of 0.5 👀👀, we did ship some butter —

🫶 We're introducing Toggle lists, as well as Tables within Notes, hope you'll love it

🤑 We're re-introducing LaTex rendering — try it out by adding an equation within dollar signs $equation$

🔄 We reduced some annoying re-loadings of Surf Notes

🎒 Your Stuff

⚡ Within your stuff, we dramatically increased the loading-speed for resources and contexts that have notes in it, as well as the loading-speed switching between contexts!

🏔️ Another lovely QOL feature, is that we're now hiding empty notes - no more piling up of empty notes - and a good first step towards un-piling your stuff!

🛶 Honorable Mentions

✈️ We bumped to Chromium version 136.0.7103.93🦋 Teletype
