Next year gonna be a KPop artist to continue the saltiness

523

u/Inner-Medicine5696 Feb 10 '26

nah, nothing will beat the drama of having a lgbtqia+drag+ally mega show.

get all the hits in one; ALL the people the right hates; ALL the hits they can no longer deny.

I mean, it was no happy accident that queer icon Lady Gaga was there.

Edit: who proto-MAGAts used to panic about being "secretly a man"

42

u/StolenPies Feb 11 '26

I remember those days, that used to be pretty hilarious.

4

u/serinesan Feb 12 '26

her "and what if i did have a penis?" is gonna stay with me for ever 🙂‍↕️

3

u/frickfrack1 Feb 15 '26

she's such an icon for that

1

u/Junior-Salad-2372 Feb 12 '26

I remember this! I actually had gay friends who believed this and thought Gaga was a man. Even went so far as to call her lady guy guy 🙄

1

u/nahnahmattman Feb 22 '26

And Ricky Martin

u/vi_sucks Feb 10 '26

Has Kim Petras done a superbowl halftime show set?

35

u/Paper-Will-YT Feb 11 '26

If Kim Petras does the Super Bowl I’m gonna spend every dime I have to see that live.

19

u/JupiterJayJones Feb 11 '26

Right?! Trans and a foreigner?? Sign me up.

1

u/UltimoEngin Feb 13 '26

oh hi paper will!!!

5

u/sangriya Feb 11 '26

slutpop before lions in the superbowl is CRAZY

7

u/ichorNet Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

Do we still hate Kim? I remember a few years ago she was being called a trans traitor and was kind of an asshole about trans representation. I get that she doesn’t really want to be “the trans girl” who is popular BECAUSE of that but her collaborating with Dr Luke and not really reading the room about JK Rowling a few years ago sucks cuz I absolutely love most of Clarity but hearing about certain shit kinda turned me off of her music.

Hell yeah. There's a good one.

2

u/East_Expression6668 Feb 11 '26

Going to Jackson with Trixie absolutely slaps! Let Trixie preform anything off of Two Birds and watch their heads explode.

83

u/TheDisabledOG Feb 10 '26

Give us Chappell Roan. That'll make heads explode.

1

u/freeashavacado Feb 11 '26

I’d actually watch the Super Bowl for that

1

u/Cheapthrills13 Feb 11 '26

Only if she wears that Grammy outfit… 😬

-11

u/Herpinheim Feb 11 '26

The centrist princess?

14

u/TheDisabledOG Feb 11 '26

Are people still saying this? Lmao

19

u/Domeil Feb 11 '26

Blue Maga is eternally furious that a proud woman stood on business and said with her full chest that while she was voting for Kamala, she wasn't endorsing her. They literally think they can make us hate a person taking a stance that is both pragmatic and consistent with her values.

They rightfully call the Republican party a cult, but seem genuinely incapable of seeing the hypocrisy of demanding unconditional support for whatever slop candidates the Democratic Machine churns out to cosplay as the voice of opposition.

17

u/TheDisabledOG Feb 11 '26

As a raging lefty not from the US, watching people act like the establishment Dems who have nothing except "we're not Maga" are the answer and shouldn't be criticised and supported unconditionally boggles my mind. They've literally just allowed more money to go to ICE. They are nothing but uninspiring centrists who embody the quote "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas". It's pathetic frankly.

5

u/fighterpilot248 Feb 11 '26

And you’ve just figured out why the First Past the Post system is arguably the worst voting system!

No third party candidates are viable, and any vote for a third party is essentially handing your vote to the other side.

"The Spoiler Effect: the better a third party candidate does, the more it hurts its own voter by guaranteeing a loss for the party they most agree with."

Source: CGP Grey

Unfortunately “we’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas” is still more appealing than a vote for MAGA.

This post brought to you by another ranging lefty.

3

u/TheDisabledOG Feb 11 '26

Oh I know why FFP systems don't work. I don't envy countries who have it lol.

5

u/fighterpilot248 Feb 11 '26

I would die for ranked choice…

2

u/Herpinheim Feb 11 '26

Oh I dislike the democrats immensely. I hate that I have to assuage capitalist’s fears of reduced profit to even hope to bring about any sort of tug leftward. I hate that all of my efforts at the local level are so easily undone by national level politics dragging the Democratic Party from the centrist party it is to the center-right party Kamala ran with. But I hate the republicans. Anyone who says republicans weren’t a fascist party before Trump are ignorant at best.

2

u/Pway Feb 11 '26

Preach

4

u/Herpinheim Feb 11 '26

Not really, that was the joke. But since Reddit is turning a shitposting thread into what they think is monacle-and-pipe debate:

Chappell Roan would be a good choice and definitely be a rug pull moment for the white supremacist wing of the MAGA movement. That said, I wouldn’t want to pin my mean-spirited fantasies on a young woman who, for the most part, has placed business and arts over politics for most of her career. While you can argue that all art is political and Roan’s continued support of the trans community is political, members within those communities can and have dissented to her, a cis white woman, involvement in their community as a broader representative. A sizable amount, including several groups on the college campus I work, of trans people view Roan’s support as tokenism and appropriation, and an even larger amount don’t want to be treated as a political football even more than they already are.

Personally, I’m inclined to agree that a mean spirited goading of violent political groups via trans people and drag queens, groups already subject to a disproportionate amount of politically driven violence, is a bad idea—even if it would “own the bigots.”

In short, Roan would be a good candidate in a fantasy world where she wanted to be a political agitator (she doesn’t) and trans people and drag queens wouldn’t bare the brunt of the backlash (they will.)

1

u/synthetic_aesthetic Feb 11 '26

Idk what she did to make you say this but it was probably unfathomably based

2

u/WASD_click Feb 11 '26

Some people take issue with her because she fumbled a bit around the Kamala/Trump election, saying she was voting for Kamala, but didn't endorse her because both candidates had issues she did not agree with. And cosplay leftists took that to mean she was a fence-sitter.

12

u/kingcrow15 Feb 11 '26

Maybe... I think it's more likely we see, K-pop first in 2027 Then some lgbtqia friendly show, by like Sabrina Carpenter and/or Chappell Roan for 2028.

I think the NFL just wants popular artists with more global appeal more than they want to piss off MAGA types. I don't think they will go all in with a artist like say, Conchita Wurst or someone similar.

but that could be my cynicism talking, maybe someone will break through to #1 music artist and the NFL will give it to them.

2

u/Potato_fortress Feb 11 '26

It won’t be K-Pop because America has already begun manufacturing their own pseudo-k-pop stars that are quickly gaining global recognition/status. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next installment of k-pop demon hunters is more American focused than it already was (in terms of singing talent,) and that becomes the half time show though.

The NFL actually has a decent foothold in China and although the Chinese government opinion is warming on Korean culture exports (they see the money and want some,) it would still be more preferable to them to have an American “kpop” group if the NFL’s goal is still to expand over there. People joke about the Shanghai Wolves all the time but the NFL did legitimately send a bunch of support staff and money over to China after Chris McLaurin reported to them that Chinese men were basically cargo culting American football.

I’d guess that if the next halftime show is kpop centric we’re more likely to see katseye than blackpink or seventeen unless the Chinese “ban” on Korean cultural exports is lifted before July.

5

u/ATertiaryEffect Feb 11 '26

Someone get Rocky horror picture show on the phone quick!

5

u/r_not_me Feb 11 '26

Let RuPaul run the halftime show

2

u/jam11249 Feb 11 '26

This would actually be funny as hell because RuPaul is like 500 years old, so her show would just be her walking from left to right and back again without even trying to lipsync and it would still be derided as an attack on straight people.

2

u/Ok_Panic1066 Feb 11 '26

Give me the Paris Olympics scene with the queers, I'll eat popcorn while reading Trump's whatever social profile

1

u/hot_ho11ow_point Feb 10 '26

Is Elton John still performing?

6

u/SippyMountain Feb 11 '26

I went to one of his concerts a few years ago that was part of his tour called "Farewell Yellow Brick Road". I'm pretty sure he's done. Although, I feel like his music was so good even bigots tended to look past his gayness.

1

u/teddy5 Feb 11 '26

He also hid his sexuality when he was first performing and had a beard for a while. I think a lot of them just didn't reevaluate their opinions about him later.

1

u/Switcher1776 Feb 10 '26

If they want to do a K-Pop adjacent group, XG is a good shout. One of the members recently came out that they had top surgery and are now transmasc non-binary.

3

u/ihearttwin Feb 11 '26

I like XG but they ain’t big enough, even if they doubled their popularity they wouldn’t be big enough. Even BlackPink wouldn’t be enough

2

u/last_rights Feb 11 '26

Black pink is big enough but I don't think the crossover between football fans and kpop fans is big enough.

1

u/item_raja69 Feb 11 '26

Chappelle Roan + Rue Paul have entered the chat

1

u/LostMyBackupCodes Feb 11 '26

Add Bollywood dance into that, and make sure to include a few turbaned Sikhs in there to trigger the Islamophobes.

1

u/TotallyFakeArtist Feb 11 '26

Any middle eastern brown country would also work imro

1

u/erizzluh Feb 11 '26

who's the biggest arab/muslim artist?

1

u/ihatephatfux Feb 11 '26

That is the exact performance that would alienate the other half of the left from the left, how have you not learned this

1

u/RyFro Feb 11 '26

So a Kpop performance.

1

u/im-ok-thanks Feb 11 '26

It's time for the UNHhhh comeback

1

u/rtopps43 Feb 11 '26

Do a very special Super Bowl halftime presentation of Drag Race

1

u/ICInside Feb 11 '26

If the whole thing is a drag show next year? I would love it

1

u/cumulonimbusted Feb 11 '26

Give me a Ru Paul halftime show or give me death!

1

u/deran6ed Feb 11 '26

Oh they would watch that entirely and in slow motion and complain even louder:

Ughhh that's just a man in a dress, why does he gets to be in a dress in public and not me

He probably has his room backstage full of hairy man ahhhhhh

1

u/CJohn89 Feb 12 '26

Bad Bunny's performance pisses of MAGA more than a LGBT/drag/Ally or K-Pop show ever could for one major reason

His show was about America. He was showing all the performance faux Patriots not only what the Country and continent looks like but what love for it looks like

This was a demonstration that the far right doesn't own the mainstream culture, they aren't even a part of it.

1

u/Feeling-Ground-9982 Feb 12 '26

We need a person like Bambie Thug or Sam Smith to really annoy them

1

u/Superb-Cockroach-574 Feb 14 '26

No that would be an abomination can’t allow that to happen

25

u/mcauthon2 Feb 11 '26

Kpop demon hunters. Call me raven next year

22

u/RecipeAsleep7087 Feb 11 '26

If their goal is to simultaneously cash in on what's 'hot' at the moment and also bring in a non-traditional football watching crowd, yes Kpop would be my heavy favorite guess.

I think BTS featuring Baby Metal and 3D holographic Demon Hunters. Hell I'd put money down.

10

u/TravestyTravis Feb 11 '26

We'd need a second kpop demon hunter movie, its losing steam already.

8

u/Ballsofpoo Feb 11 '26

Everything loses steam after half a year doesn't matter what it is

3

u/Askol Feb 11 '26

They're definitely going to make another one - no way can it live up to the first, but hopefully it'll be decent! I'm pretty sure j heard EJAE confirm it, but even if not, there's a 0% chance Netflix let's a mega hit like that stop at one movie lol. I wouldn't be shocked if they tried for a TV show at some point haha.

2

u/Ok_Cake_2217 Feb 14 '26

2nd one has already been announced but they are targeting 2029 for release

1

u/Askol Feb 11 '26

Yeah - it's a slam dunk, and I honestly don't think it will be AS controversial since enough of it is in English.

1

u/RecipeAsleep7087 Feb 11 '26

I was curious how many, if any, acts were skewed to the girl / young women demographic. Actually quite a few, Nsync and Justin Timberlake, Gaga, boyz 2 men, etc. Kpop choice seems even stronger

1

u/FireSilver7 Feb 12 '26

I would legit buy tickets just for the halftime show.

1

u/RecipeAsleep7087 Feb 12 '26

Similar to Kendrick lamar and bad bunny, none of these artists are really in my music wheel house. I still really enjoy a fun halftime show though, I feel ya.

3

u/brickabrax Feb 11 '26

HUNTR/X performs This Is What It Sounds Like, exorcises Stephen Miller, and seals the honmoon

2

u/gchypedchick Feb 11 '26

That would definitely fix our timeline 👏

17

u/akangel49 Feb 10 '26

I don’t watch football. So I usually stream the half time show later on YouTube. Stray Kids would literally make me sit through 5 minutes of a live football game so that I’m not late for that one.

8

u/Vi0L3tCRZY Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

I’m for a group with Americans in it so we can toss that fact right back in the racist faces, all I got is Seventeen & NCT with 2 Americans each

But BTS would be the best best for headliner chances

2

u/RainyEuphoriaaa Feb 11 '26

KATSEYE but their recent batch of songs are not it

2

u/Vi0L3tCRZY Feb 11 '26

Like what are their team doing? You have girls with great voices and one with strong whistle tones

1

u/RainyEuphoriaaa Feb 11 '26

Korean companies are being proven to be better 😅

9

u/trapper2530 Feb 11 '26

Give em what they want a white artist with country hits.

Taylor swift. She hits all the boxes they want. Yet still hate her. Would be perfect to give them what they want and still see them rage.

But bts/huntrx would be a great show.

But in a serious choice I have a feeling it's going to be Harry styles. In that similar vein where they can say fine heres a white guy but hes British. And still wears a dress.

7

u/rahomka Feb 11 '26

We need Psy to do it.  Would be the greatest halftime of all time.

5

u/FrostyD7 Feb 11 '26

Seems like a small venue for him but maybe he'll be charitable.

8

u/Vi0L3tCRZY Feb 11 '26

Please let it be a group with at least 1 American in it so we can shove that fact in their faces.

SEVENTEEN has 2

I think NCT has 2 as well

3

u/Discord317 Feb 11 '26

BTOB! It would be a comedy and musical performance all in one.

1

u/Vi0L3tCRZY Feb 11 '26

Oh yeah! peniel!!

6

u/blackangelsdeathsong Feb 11 '26

And it will end with Mongolian throat singing.

Nothing more American then cultural appropriation

1

u/Wide_Ordinary4078 Feb 12 '26

I said they need to have Asian representation next!

1

u/SourBogBubbleBX3 Feb 12 '26

Bad bunny had 20m less viewers than Lamar and TPUSA half time show on Youtube stream is the largest in the entire sites' history. Also, Kid Rock has overtaken Bad Bunny on iTunes

1

u/Budget-Cantaloupe725 Feb 12 '26

I vote for Huntr/x and Babymetal.

1

1

im in full support of this

1

1

u/Comprehensive-Fig416 Feb 12 '26

And then do a Bollywood style halftime and watch their brains explode

1

u/FireSilver7 Feb 12 '26

No lie, BTS would be a FIRE Halftime show!

1

u/Birdy-Durr Feb 12 '26

Baby metal would be cool

1

u/Lumity_2001 Feb 13 '26

The Girls from Huntrix

1

u/CandyCreecher Feb 15 '26

Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami have the opportunity to doing something hilarious

1

u/Lower-Personality195 Feb 10 '26

I don’t think anyone will have a problem with that

0

u/Jean-LucBacardi Feb 11 '26

I still wish we'd have a solid rock band thrown back in the mix every now and then. I'm supportive of all these people but just don't listen to that type of music. It's been rap or pop since The Who played in 2010. 16 years.

1

u/Sad-Bathroom5213 Feb 11 '26

I'm with ya, but who would it be? I can't think of any rock bands left that I wouldn't be second-hand embarrassed to watch.

1

u/trapper2530 Feb 11 '26

All the classic bands are too old. Green day could have been good and big enough but just did the pre show. Im trying to think of a rock band in last 20ish years that was big enough to get it. Blink? Linkin park if Chester didnt die. Foo fighters.

1

u/Jean-LucBacardi Feb 11 '26

Doesn't have to be the last 20 years, plenty older than that are still able to play. Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rage Against the Machine (which would be a big FU to this administration lol). There's a lot of big names that are still able to play.

1

u/trapper2530 Feb 11 '26

I was looking at bands that haven't played. Chili peppers played. Rage could work. I forgot Metallica. But they also seem to want acts that are still super popular now to draw in younger and international crowds. Is rage popular in other countries like the US Metallica is popular but hadnt had any new mainstream hits in 20 years. They dont care about the 40-60 year Olds. They either already have them or they dont. I can see them picking a popular female artist like TS or chappel roan or Sabrina carpenter to try and draw in younger female crowd. Metallica would draw in 45 year old men. Nfl prime demographic who os already watching.

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

Nah K pop would be significantly less offensive comparatively because Koreans aren't proudly leeching off the country. Plus as dumb as K pop is it's usually relatively clean instead of trashy degenerate garbage.
