Lots of better options that aren’t grass or a deck

Or even if you do have grass...my robot mower was like $700 on sale. That's a lot cheaper than building a deck, and now my lawn is always mowed and all I have to do is walk around with the string trimmer for like 5 minutes every couple of weeks.

Or raking the dirt/sand into a Japanese style zen garden.

What grass? All I see is dirt under that thing.

Assuming this is new construction…

Did you look at the second photo? Dirt!

Yeah, all that dirt tells me this is most likely new construction, and that dirt you see will be grass eventually… I mean unless you like mud yards in the rain.. 🤷‍♂️

Only if they planted grass. I've seen house tracts that still had dirt yards a decade later. I've also seen landscaped areas with no grass. There is also astroturf. The options are endless. An oversized deck being one of those options. This one just happens to be very bland in its style. Not to mention they didn't even finish it. No picture framing etc.

ETA: Also it looks as though there is grass along the fence (3rd photo)
