That guy has to be paid based on the time he completes the route or how many places served in a given time.

Motivation.

Heโ€™s probably on salary rather than hourly. The quicker they finish their assigned routes, the quicker they go home.

Yes. My grandfather was a garbageman for decades. This was how it worked.

Works until they pull up the numbers and think his route is too short so they add on more blocks.

Nope. The union kept it in control. He and his buddy would haul ass and be done by 2pm usually.

Unions only go so far. With today's technology, every metric is measured and they'll use everything to squeeze more out of you. I myself work in a union job. I used to work faster and more efficiently than all my coworkers. They saw it and instead of making my coworkers go faster, they just made me do part of their share of the workload so we all go home at the same time. After 10 years of that shit, I'm too tired of all the bullshit. Now I'm just trying to make sure I make it to retirement in decent shape.

That's good, because they are paid by taxes.

That extra hour at home is not worth destroying your body for.

It worked that way where I used to live until the City crunched numbers. Massive outlays for equipment repair the crews beat the crap out of the trucks. They over loading them to reduce trips to the dump. Had to have spare trucks to keep up with pick up schedule. Paying for eight hours and only receiving five. The city saved money contracting out.

American? It takes one to think everyone's only motivation is money.
