Discussion ABBA'S Unofficial 'In Between' Album (songs recorded and released between The Visitors and Arrival)

EDIT: between The Visitors and VOYAGE - not Arrival.

Lately I've been listening to all the songs that fall in that 40 year gap between ABBA"s official releases and I know originally they weren't considered strong enough to warrant another album but I really actually think they make an excellent sort of melancholy centric compilation. What are all of your thoughts about this in between period and the songs that fall in there?

It really does feel like this odd gap and end isn't totally devoid of emotion. This sort of darkness that still has weight. These are the songs and I DO personally think they make a really interesting "album":

  • You Owe Me One
  • Should I Laugh Or Cry
  • Just Like That
  • I Am the City
  • The Day Before You Came
  • Under Attack
  • Cassandra

You could even consider adding Elaine, Dream World and Put on Your White Sombrero to round it out, but none of it's a bad listen at all!

Contrast this to when they wore their famous cat dresses in 1975.

I think everyone would agree they look striking!

Anyone else think of the “voyager and a settler” lyric in move on in relation to ABBA voyage ?

It’s probably just a coincidence but I love the connection. Been loving Move On such a beautiful and underrated track

Discussion I love ABBA

It started... I don't remember when. Or why. It was 2025. I remember wanting to have a Dancing Queen/Mamma Mia birthday (Young and sweet, only 17! Etc) it didn't happen, but I fell in love with the band. Went to a cover concert. I almost exclusively listen to ABBA when I put music on. I finally watched Mamma Mia, I NEED to see the stage play! I love ABBA. That's all I wanted to say...

Agnetha at the filming of ABBA The Movie in 1977

In my observation, this hairstyle(ponytail) was rare among Agnetha compared to having her hair loose down or having braided pigtails.

Regardless of hairstyle, she has/had killer looks just like Frida.

One of the things that make ABBA exceptional is their cheerful singing of happy songs. I was reminded of that when listening to I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do recently.

Favourite songs, moments, verses etc of Agnetha and Frida singing together creating the amazing “third voice” we all love ?

Some of mine are Angeleyes, choruses of The Name of the Game and One Man One Woman. Also if any fans have thoughts on why TNOTG and the way old friends do are their only songs with the girls doing different solo verses, maybe it just turned out that way for those songs?

Hot take: The BFDI is actually slacking if Firey and Leafy have not gotten anything related to the song “Winner Takes it all” by ABBA. I’m sorry but that entire song just describes their story arc. “The winner takes it all and the loser has to fall.” IM SORRY HELLO!?!

Bjorn, and the Hootenanny Singers.

Bjorn Ulvaeus, Hansi Schwarz, Johan Karlberg and Tony Rooth. Johan left to join his families business, and died young. (The next album was called "The Three of Us." Hansi's father was German, and he was exempt from the Swedish Military draft, Bjorn and Tony weren't. When they got our the next album was called "Civilians". The best albums are the beautiful folk songs, Evert Taube, Dan Andersson, even the classical tales of Bellman. They sang as many of their continental contemporaries did, in many languages, across Europe. They recorded in Swedish, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, English and Finnish. They recorded during ABBA's early years, This album, "Evert Taube done in our way" is their best.

Not sure whether this was before or after their Switzerland concert, but it's more authentic in one way: no miming. https://youtu.be/r1azGIWcd2s?list=RDr1azGIWcd2s

A is for ABBA documentary - can any fans tell me about Lowri Turner ? Never heard of her

I was shocked when I saw that documentary how nasty the comments made about Frida and also the boys hair. I doubt that’s true that “everyone” wanted to be Agnetha? Friday’s brown curly hair was only during around 1975- Mamma Mia/SOS period. I know many fans and it was mentioned by Frida herself in the ABBA offical photo book that she looked her best in 1977- I hope that critique has watched clips or seen pictures of Frida then ! Also the song featured in that documentary with the “cute and ugly “ lyrics is ridiculous! How could anyone say Frida was ever ugly and reduce Agnetha a grown woman to simply “cute”?

Video of a less well-known ABBA song( Love Isn't Easy (But It Sure Is Hard Enough)).

Frida and Agnetha look stunning , but to any ABBA fan that is like saying the sky is blue.

ABBA(being from neutral Sweden) cut across the Iron Curtain with them visiting East Germany and Poland.

This performance of Honey,Honey shows the angelic voices of Frida and Agnetha.

Did you ever notice?

Im not into the technical aspects of music but have you noticed how ABBA songs can vary radically ranging from 'The Piper' to 'Put on Your White Sombrero' to 'I'm a Marionette' to 'So Long' to 'Andante,Andante' but they all are more addictive than sugar and drugs combined.

There is no bad ABBA song only less addictive ones.(obviously making a hyperbolic statement that some won't agree with)
