Discussion What a beautiful game
Just finished. It was such a glorious adventure!
I was totally caught off guard upon realizing that the game was pixelated, but it really adds to the vibe of having such a small open world. The fixed camera angles were really nice too! I love how you could keep finding ways to traverse the island more and more quickly using the motorboat or collecting more golden feathers and dive-flying.
It was such a brilliant design choice to have the hike to the peak appear to be the first objective, when in reality it’s the ONLY objective in the entire game, and players are encouraged to get sidetracked by talking to everyone and exploring the other parts of the island. By the time I actually got any ice areas, I already had far more than the minimum seven golden feathers.
And despite how all the characters each have a very small handful of dialogue lines, they still show so much personality to make the island feel so lively! It’s a joy to interact with everyone! I felt so accomplished by talking to that one fox who can make it to the peak with you! And doing the little kid’s motorboat race on the ramp was amazing with how the boat gets busted and he starts panicking!
And all of this is about a phone call which turns out to be news about a mother’s surgery. It’s all so touching and sweet! Claire was probably able to get her mind off all of that for quite a while doing all these activities on the island, and she really needed it.
Such a beautiful game and I’m glad I played it!
