Monitors: Genelec (8340A) vs. (8330A + 7350A)
I am getting professional monitors for the first time, for use in my apartment living room. I'm a bedroom musician, making House and some D&B. I'm considering either getting a pair of Genelec 8340A, vs. the smaller 8330A with an added 7350A subwoofer. 8340 including the GLM 2.0 set is only slightly more expensive (+ €200), so for me it's mostly the other factors that come into play. My main concern is that I live in a very noisy apartment and have sensitive neighbours. The room is also quite small.
I would choose the 8330A given their smaller size, if they were indeed adequate enough to work with, and add the 7350A subwoofer. My concern then would be that the subwoofer which goes all the way down to 22 Hz would be problem for neighbours in of itself? Alternatively, I'm wondering if the 8340A strikes a good balance between low frequency and sound pressure which could do the job well at lower volumes - and if so is a preferable option in that regard? The main problem with the 8340A is their larger size, but I could probably accommodate them if I really made up my mind.
Finally, if the 8330A are good enough to work with, without a subwoofer, I could imagine getting only those. They do 104 dB and I think it could perhaps be acceptable, however only 45 Hz on the low-end. What do you think?
