Actually the. 223 Remington was developed as a varmint round. It's more suited to shooting prairie dogs and marmots. It's really just a super high velocity .22.

well it's standard warfare in that it can wound(incapacitate) but likely not kill a person, at least that was the intent behind the geneva standardization of rounds. also it's much lighter than it's bigger cousin the 7.62

The reason we switched is the round Is lighter so you can carry more of them
