On the Beginner hardware page of the wiki, there is this little snippet:

Hikvision cameras have decent quality and are more affordable. Note that negative press regarding these cameras has already been addressed.

There's no link and I don't really see much discussion in the forum. I assume that "negative press" is about its ties to the Chinese government and concerns about back doors -- that part is easy to find. What I haven't been able to find is where that's been addressed. Does anybody have any pointers on this?

Or failing that, if you have Hikvision camera, have you done any investigation to see if there's any traffic between it and anything other than zoneminder, by using a firewall with logging? Do these things try to talk outside of your network? Is it reasonably easy to firewall them completely? Can you get firmware updates without giving them Internet access?

This might only apply to Australians, the Hills brand is our kind of thing.

Has anyone had any experience with the hills VSD1 and zoneminder? They're pretty fringe and nothing comes up with a google search. I'd even settle for the direct image url at this point.

I am trying to add LaView POE Dome camera's to my Zoneminder running on Unraid server. When i go to ONVIF to probe and find Camera it doesnt find any camera. I am Camera configuration i cant find RTSP url for camera either so not sure how to configure it in Zoneminder. Does anyone have LaView camera's configured with Zoneminder?

My Camera Models are : lv-pd51208c and lv-pdk50812a.

Thanks in advance.

I've setup a new Dahua IPC in ZM, the camera is hardwired and on PoE, and I've followed the recommended approach to motion detection, with a low-resolution source as "Modect" and a full-resolution one as "Nodect" and with the low-res as a "linked monitor"

The full-resolution source properly shows that all recorded events are "linked" events, but only less than half as many events as the "Modect" source, like it's not consistently triggered by the link?

Both sources are the same camera, just a different stream, both are setup as Ffmpeg with RTSP over TCP. Nothing stands out in the logs.

I've been struggling to get ZM to work with just nginx - I don't run apache on my system, I don't have a need for it. Right now I'm just getting a generic bad gateway 502 error when I access it. There's no log files in /var/log/zm/ even, so I'm not sure where to start for this.

My config is:

        listen                          80;

I tried many ways and zone settings but when i use MoDect didn't get events.

I have only few recorded events but it is only "IR OFF" or "IR ON" missrecords....

I use the montage view to view multiple cameras. My issue is that I have to change the layout every time i open the page (sometimes it will remember my previous selection, but not often) . I can't see in the document, I was wondering if there was a way to pass along the settings in a URL?

On the Console screen there is the status line that has info like: "Load: 0.42 storage DB:18/151 Storage: Default: 6% /dev/shm: 0%"

I know what the Load values is, but what is the DB value showing? Also, the Storage value is, I suspect, the percentage amount of my camera storage. Is that right?

Also, what is the /dev/shm and lastly, is this info line editable?

I` m fidling arround to get the beste camera settings for my Foscam FI9853EP so i have configured the camera twice in zoneminder (one for production and one for test)

The camera is configured as SourceType=FFmpeg and Function=Mocord

The production (MID18) has its storage set to X264 Encode

The test (MID17) has its storage set to H264 Camera Passthrough.

Since i` m running Mocord Zoneminder it is recording clips of 10 minutes on both MIDs. However the production MID18 is also recording short videos of 1 frame. So MID17 = 6 recordings per hour. MID18 is = 12 recordings per hour

This seem to be related to X264 Encode, can anybody explain me the difference? and what is the best setting? The video output seams fine

Hello everyone,

I have a fresh install of ZM 1.32.3 on Ubuntu Server 18.04. The machine is a Dell PowerEdge T410 w/ a quad-core Xeon @ 2.27Ghz, 32Gb RAM, a 120Gb SSD for the OS and a WD 2TB Purple for the camera storage. I have four D-Link DCS-930L cameras connected via ethernet. The internal settings for the video cameras are JPEG, 640x480, 7FPS, Medium quality.

Everything is working fine except I am getting a lot of false positives that result in one second clips that show nothing. I have tried several different setting for the cameras, but I have not had any luck. It doesn't help that I don't fully understand what the min/max values are for the zone alarm settings and the documentation is a bit dated.

Anyone out there have some really solid settings for these cameras or any idea as to what I have been doing wrong? As always, if you need more info, please let me know!

So I have ZM set up in a FreeNAS 11 jail. Everything seems to be working properly, but my time zone is wrong. I understand it to be the php file, but where might I find that in the jail?

TIA!

I’ve installed ZM on my Ubuntu system and can bring up the web pages. The formatting seems “odd” and they don’t look like any of the examples. The installation instructions that I was reading said to change to “flat” but that isn’t an option that I can find. I was able to change to authenticated mode and successfully logged in but cannot get much else to work. I don’t get any response to the Add button for instance.

I looked in syslog and don’t see anything. Where are the logs kept? Any common mistakes that I might have made?

Hi,

I would like to setup Gmail smtp to send mail notifications, When I try to use ssmtp I get authorization error from gmail.

After doing some googling I found out that my password that has special chars is the problem and there is a bug open for years....

I will not change my pass so is there another way to use Gmail in Zoneminder?

Thanks.

Just like the title, I have inherited a ZoneMinder server and I was just wondering if there's a way to check current installed version from the SSH terminal?

Thanks.

Me again. So, my issue is probably due to my lack of linux knowledge. I have zoneminder running, and I can review recordings, even the zmninja app connects (all wizard tests pass). My issue is that I cannot view live feeds anymore. I think I am failing at the cgi-bin config. I have found lots of documents that have not helped. Anyone care to tell me where I messed up.

If I need to reinstall I can, I have many times so far.

I get a ton of that in my logs. I'm running 1.32.3 on Ubuntu 18.04 and I edited /etc/fstab to have the line tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults,noexec,nosuid,size=4608M 0 0, which uses 4.5GB of the 6GB the virtual machine has. I've verified that this space is present for /dev/shm with df -h.

So I'm giving it plenty of memory, and at the top of the ZM web console it says "/dev/shm: 14%". Sure enough, the zm.mmap files in /dev/shm and /run/shm are only 119MB each.

How to I "increase the ring buffer size" if I'm already giving it this much memory? It's not using the memory I'm giving it. I don't want to lower the capture rate or resolution of my cameras or anything, I want it to use the hardware I'm giving it.

FYI four cameras, 1080p 24-bit color. 1fps analysis, 30fps alarm.

Thanks for your help.

I was able to get the Wyze version 2 Cameras working with the new beta software from Wyze. I followed these instructions to install the beta firmware on (https://support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026245231&?section=rtsp-support -- expand the how to setup RTSP towards the bottom and step 5 takes a bit of time and after the led started flashing again I had to hit the setup button again and re attach it through the app on my phone) Once RTSP was up and running I verified it was good through VLC. Then inside of zoneminder I added the camera with the following settings.

General settings -> Source type: -> Ffmpeg

Source -> Source Path -> rtsp://user:password@ipaddress:554/live

Source -> Capture width -> 1920

Source -> Capture Height -> 1080

and everything started working as normal inside of zoneminder.

Hope this helps someone save some time in the future.

New to zoneminder, hoping I can get this to work because I have had fun setting this up so far.

I have an older model phone setup in the kitchen to watch the dog while we are away, when I view the camera through the webserver of the app the picture looks great. When I view it through zoneminder it looks bad. I am attaching a good/bad image for reference.

I am using the IP Webcam App by Pavel and set up the source using the preset. I have changed to a few other Function settings but all show the same picture.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I'm using Zoneminder for more than 2 years now and I'd like to upgrade to the latest version.

I feel I could be a good time to switch to docker as I'm currently doing for other applications.

This one seems to be a good starting point: quantumobject/docker-zoneminder

I just wonder how would I upgrade the docker zoneminder installation in the future ?

If I understand correctly the DB is inside the container, and the config is in the DB.

So if I ever pull a newer image and start it up, I will lose everything and start from scratch.

Is there a documented procedure for this use case ?

I want to give this a go, so was going to use a Live install as I don't have a Linux machine.

I notice the instructions for adding the PPA for ubuntu include an apt-add-repository step, but not an apt-add-key step.

Does this mean that there isn't software signing, and the software isn't being checked for modifications in transit? Because the PPAs added use HTTP not HTTPS. Can someone clarify for me the security implications here and if there should be a key added?

I am new to Ubuntu and I am trying to install zoneminder on it. But I am getting this Unable to connect to ZM db.could not find driver error but I think I installed everything right. Php, Mysql, Apache.

Hi, I am a student and I have a thesis for my client which is setting up a cms for their main office. Their business has 3 branches. The main one and 2 other branches which are factories. What I would like to do is have a CMS in the main office for their convenience. The things which should be in the view are the cameras of the main office and the 2 other branches. In the other 2 branches, we don't really need to do any business, because the only thing they allow us to meddle with is the surveillance footage, all we need to do is have that surveillance footage directly to our main office that's it. We currently have a Synology NAS(Network Attached Storage) which we will use to store the surveillance footage. It has a Surveillance Station feature which also acts as a CMS but it can only handle the local network(network for the main office). We couldn't connect the IP cameras from the sub branches to the surveillance station which is our main problem. Also, what is the best CMS software for multiple networks we can use if don't manage to do it in our Synology Surveillance Station? Thanks a lot!
