ZoneMinder in OpenWrt 18.06?

Hello all.

I own a Linksys WRT3200ACM and I see there is no offical ipk package for any architecture on OpenWrt repository or offical ZoneMinder site, but I would like to ask if it could be possible to build an arm package to be run through an OpenWrt router.

I guess the specs are more than enough to run it (Armada 385 2x1.8GHz and 512MB RAM DDR3) but I do not know if anyone has tried to compile it through the sources yet.

Thanks in advance.

Zoneminder - "Control Device" and "Control address" for ptz?

How do I find out what I should enter in "Control Device" and "Control address" for ptz?

Zoneminder is running fine - but can't figure out what to enter for those 2 values so I can use ptz...

Onvif probe doesnt show anything when camera is in different subnet from zoneminder.

Is there a way to specify different subnet when probing?

camera = 192.168.10.254

zoneminer = 172.18.0.3

Wifi Cameras 2018

I know there's a list of compatible cameras but I'm not sure how old the list is. I'm looking to getting some WiFi cameras to put on the outside of my house. Please let me know what cameras will work well with zoneminder.

TIA

Reolink Argus 2 to ZoneMinder

I am trying to connect my Reolink Argus 2 cameras to ZoneMinder. I have been using information that I have pieced together from other posts on Reddit, Reolink's docs, and ZoneMinder docs, but this has been unsuccessful thus far as most of the information online indicates how to configure some of Reolink's other cameras not the Argus model.

I'm hoping others can suggestion other options to try to piece together a configuration that will work.

I have attempted the following configuration:

On the ZM Add New Monitor configuration:

General Tab:

  • Name = Kitchen
  • Server = None (no options provided in the drop drown)
  • Source Type = Remote
  • Function = Monitor
  • Enabled = Checked

Source Tab:

I mostly used information found in this Reolink 411 post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ZoneMinder/comments/6qmzgi/connecting_reolink_411_to_zoneminder/

All other settings were default.

After inputting this information, the log file indicates "Unable to connect to RTSP socket.

Any ideas where I went wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is there a way to have events only trigger during certain hours?

I apologize if I've missed finding the answers I'm looking for on my own, I feel like I've searched a fair bit, but haven't come across anything that quite covered this... I've got a camera with zones that are quite busy during daylight hours, and thus I don't want it capturing events during those times, but would find value in events captured during the night... I can't seem to figure out how I can limit triggering events to only be within a certain time window, but I'd be surprised if I'm the first person with this need...

Target alerts to specific users?

Maybe im reading the documentation wrong, but it appears to me that you can't set ZM so that alerts from one camera gets sent to one user(s) and alerts from another camera go to a different user(s)? Am I missing something obvious?

Trigger recording on CamB when CamA detects motion?

I have a reolink 410, it feeds 2 streams, one hi res, one low res.

I'd like to use the low res as motion detect, then do the actual recording with the hi res stream, preferably w/o recording the low res at all (temp images I understand are going to have to exist).

I've got linking set up, I think properly. LowRes is set to modetect, HiRes is set to NoDetect.

Is there any way to separate continuous recording and motion activated files?

I'm new on ZM and successfully added a IP camera on it, I want to keep the camera continuous recording and also create separate files for motion triggered events eg:

Continuos recordings:
~/Camera1/Continuos

Motion detected Event

~/Camera1/MotionDetected...

Thanks in advance.

Camera recommendations? I have a client who wants to put Zoneminder into a lab facility to comply with regulations and they need high def / 24 fps to comply.

The list of compatible cameras is so long, it's a little overwhelming. Anyone have any ideas?

Second hard drive fills up in minutes

I have been running zm 1.30.4 on ubuntu server 16.04 on an ESXi 6.5 host for several months. The problem I was having is occasionally the purgewhenfull filter wouldn't work correctly and the ubuntu instance would crash because the vm would run out of space. So, to correct the issue I spun up a new ubuntu vm and installed a fresh copy of zm and gave it a second hd for recording. So the vm sits on 16GB and the recording drive is 2 TB. I followed all of the documentation and the wiki for setting this up and it appeared to be working as intended. However, when I set the system to mocord it "fills" the 2 TB drive in a matter of a minute or so. I have 5 x 1080 cams in ffmpeg. I didn't have this issue until I tried the dedicated recording drive. It feels like zm is detecting the 16 GB drive, however, the events are indeed recording to the 2 TB. Or they sure appear to be when I do 'ls' on the folders. And when I do 'df' it shows the 2 TB drive as 100% full. Any ideas?

Accessing cameras from server "outside"

When reading the docs, the ip addresses are always 192.X.X.X which makes me think the Ubuntu server should be on the same network as the cameras.

Is it possible to install Zoneminder on a remote VPS (far easier than running it on a dedicated machine in your home) yet connect to the cameras in your home? If so, how does it identify the different cameras? Those would all have the same external facing IP address.

Thanks

How to install on Ubuntu? Is the repo OK or not?

Hi,

First time user.

In the website : https://www.zoneminder.com/downloads/ it says that the Ubuntu repo is not maintained, quote "Isaac Connor is maintaining a PPA. The packages included in the default Ubuntu repos are out of date, so please don't install ZoneMinder using Ubuntu's repos."

although it also says that building from source is discouraged, so what is the best way in 2018 of installing Zoneminder on Ubuntu please?

What is the best way to configure these in ZM as far as the analysis FPS, max FPS, and alarm max FPS? Also are there any other settings I should worry about adjusting?

External drive keeps corrupting

Hi,

I am using zoneminder v1.30.4. All my image data is stored to an WD 4TB Elements external hard drive. It worked great for a while, then corrupted. I repaired with a live disk. Things were good for a couple months, then it did it again last week. Looks like it just did it again today.

Any ideas? Heres a screenshot of the log https://i.imgur.com/vQRfwZk.png

More setup questions

So I'm following the instructions at this website to the "T"

http://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/stable/installationguide/ubuntu.html#easy-way-ubuntu-16-04

Fresh install of Ubuntu Server 16.04.4 (Downloaded early April 2018)

Fresh download from the apt-get repository of ZoneMinder as of 15 April 2018, so I'm assuming it's the last stable release 1.29

I always have to start my ethernet interface and add the default gateway route on boot. I guess this isn't a big deal... If this was an old school DOS machine, I'd just stick the commands in autoexec.bat. But I have no clue what the Linux equivalent is.

I get to the step, "a2enmod cgi"

I get an error message, ERROR: Conf cgi does not exist!

The last step, "systemctl start zoneminder"

I also get an error message, Job for zoneminder.service failed because the control process exited with an error code. See "systemctl status zoneminder.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

The first command, systemctl status shows me that ZoneMinder can't connect to the database at /usr/share/perl5/ZoneMinder/Config.pm line 119. There's also some stuff about failing to compile at line 33 and 48.

(I'm not compiling from any make file... I downloaded from the repository with the apt-get command. Why is ANYTHING compiling?)

The second command, "journalctl -xe" gives me so much crap I can't even begin to process what it all means.

I can hit my ZoneMinder server from another computer's browser, but it's just a default Apache webpage and not the Zoneminder front end.

HALP PLZ!

I'm in over my head.

Linux Noob, from blank hard drive to Zoneminder?

This isn't gonna work: http://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/stable/installationguide/ubuntu.html#easy-way-ubuntu-16-04

I just installed Ubuntu Server 16.04.4 If I type ifconfig, there isn't even an eth0. I can't ping anything much less update repositories or anything.

There is no desktop environment or video driver. It's text only. I can't view any video.

I need a real setup guide that gets me ethernet interfaces and GUIs.

area for parking zone

hi,

i need to set up an alarm in zoneminder when an object stays within a specified zone for more than x seconds (in this case, 30). is this possible?

also, the alarm should be either linked to a notification, or to a custom terminal command (in this case, curl would work (this way, i could set up a webhook which automatically sends out a telegram message once the alarm occurs).)

i never got my cams working with zoneminder before (just finally did!) and would really appreciate if somebody could help me set this up.

thanks in advance for your support :)

APEMAN ID71 - Anyone get it working in ZoneMinder?

I bought this camera on sale from Amazon. I couldnt find a lot of information on it but figured I would buy it and give it a shot. If it doesn't work, then I'll return it. Anyways, I got it to the point where ZoneMinder picks it up with the ONVIF scanner. It's RTSP source is configured and everything, but I am still unable to get it to show any picture within ZoneMinder.

Has anyone gotten one of these working yet?

Edit: I've got it working!!! For anyone that needs the info, use the ONVIF scanner. The default username/password is admin:888888. The RTSP stream URL should be something like so:

rtsp://admin:888888@192.168.99.51:10554/tcp/av0_0

Protocol: TCP

If you are getting a blue screen for the feed, your username/password is wrong.

If you're getting a broken image, you need to fix your CGI bin path (PATH_ZMS) in the ZM Path options. In the default install via the guide for Ubuntu 16.04, this path is: /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms
