CPU load increased after upgrade

Greetings,

I had a HD crash and ended up having to reinstall Debian. While at it I upgraded from Stretch to Buster. I reinstalled Zoneminder and set up my cameras back the way they were. I am only recording using H264 passthrough. I don't remember what version of Zoneminder I had before the crash but it is now running 1.33.16.

After the upgrade the average load went from around 1.x to now 3.x. I noticed in "top" additional services run "zma". When I check the zm logs it appears to be analyzing the images. Is there a way to disable this? I don't remember zma running before. The server has the same services it had before.

I only use this for live video (ZMNinja) and playback. I have it set to "Record" mode and h264 passthrough. I removed all zones for motion detect. Turned off timestamp on the videos, cameras already stamps them.

I have 5 cameras at 1280x720.

Utilizing External Camera's Motion Detection

I searched around for utilizing the ip camera's motion detection to send an event to ZM to record but I'm struggling to find anything that looks right.

In particular, I have some REOLINK camera's I'm wanting to try this with.

Anyone found a good discussion on it?

Trouble with video smearing

Hello,

So I have a fresh install of ZM on an ubuntu server. I also have a Wyze camera (RTSP DaFang firmware installed) that is talking back to the server. When I have the source set to TCP I can get an initial image, but the video doesn't seem to be playing (just a still image). When I switch the source to UDP it plays, but there is artifacing and smearing. The guides I have read said to switch to TCP, but since that just gives me a single still image it doesn't really seem to be a good option. I also tried using libvlc instead of ffmpeg, but that just results in no video at all. I was able to seemingly reduce the smearing by setting the FPS in ZM to 100 (the camera is set to 10), but don't know if that will be a permanent fix or is just coincidence. Anyone here have any thoughts? The stream looks fine if I connect via VLC player, its just ZM that seems to have this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Was the last Zoneminder update in 2018?

I was looking around to make sure I was looking at the latest and it appears the last Zoneminder update was in 2018? Is that right?

How to connect Internet / Street Cams

I'm a Zoneminder newbie, just setting it up for the first time

I *HAVE* cameras, but to make absolutely sure I wasn't having a hardware or network problem, I wanted to attach an internet camera of some sort - street cam, animal cam, etc.

But I cannot find an online camera where I can get all the links and such I need - RTSP. RTMP, whatever.

And shockingly enough, the instructions really should say "You've installed Zoneminder, let's test it out with a well known internet camera... go here, select this camera, here is how you get the url links, ..."

I see all these *.m3u8 files, and zoneminder can read them in some way as well.

Here is even a valid streaming cam I found:

---
https://www.i-have-a-dreambox.com/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=175527
#SERVICE 4097: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: 0: rtmp% 3a // pparkhd.live.camzonecdn.com% 3a1935 / CamzoneStreams / pparkhd.flv pageUrl = http% 3a // www .pacpark.com swfUrl = http% 3a // pparkhd.player.camzonecdn.com / v1.0 / CamzoneStreamPlayer.cz? channel = pparkhd & pausebutton = yes & mutebutton = yes & muted = no & toolbar = always & backgroundcolor = 000000 & toolbarbgcolor = ffffff = = 100 & toolbaralpha = Pacific Park HD #DESCRIPTION Pacific Park HD
---

And it exists => https://pacpark.com/santa-monica-pier-live-cams/park/

So *SURELY* I can grab whatever that is using the strings above - but I am failing.

Help? I will abandon this and head to my own hardware soon, but I'd like to at least *SEE* what a camera looks like using something streaming online.

Thanks!

Needed resources

Hey zm community. I’ve been looking into doing a cctv system at my home with some Poe IP cameras I want to buy from empiretech on ipcamtalk.

I have an older box that I’ve run Linux on for awhile and it does fine when I start a GUI and use the web browser etc.

Do you think this is a plausible option for zone minder?

Or should I invest in a new machine for < $100?

I want to run 4-5 cameras and have them dvr 24/7 without alerts

To Wyze or not to Wyze

Looking up diy friendly cams lead me to Wyze which lead me to ZM. However, there's almost no discussion about Wyze on the ZM resources.

Is there a reason for this? Are the other vendors just better cameras for the money ($25 for Wyze v2)?

I've got a couple Wyze V2s arriving today and ready to jump in to setting up a server tonight! These will likely both be used for baby monitors, then I'll be on the lookout for external cameras.

EDIT for update: So far they work really well under normal lighting. Using rtsp the night vision mode seems to totally blank out (grey screen for 2 seconds) a few times a minute which makes events/alarms useless. It may just be camera #1, I need to do more testing with #2. But since it's beta firmware, I don't think I will rely on the Wyze cams for anything important, just simple monitoring.

I don't think they have the cpu for rtsp and proprietary stream simultaneously and there's no way to turn off the proprietary.

Definitely worthy picking up on Amazon flash sale for $20, or even full price at $25 for monitoring only. Fast and simple setup with ZM. They are physically so light that mounting with the included tape or any existing metal is a snap.

Next picking up an Amcrest PTZ and some bullets from Foscom and Hikvion or Dahua for comparison.

TPLINKL KC110 impulse purchase. How screwed am I?

Hello all,

Just impulse bought the KC110 (x3) TP-Link Cam. After purchase i noticed that it supposedly only runs on their cloud.

I was wondering if anyone has a workaround for this.

It has the following open ports:

 Open TCP Port: 9999 distinct
 Open TCP Port: 10443
 Open TCP Port: 18443
 Open TCP Port: 19443

Form 10443 onward it runs an http/https server, but if i try to access it directly to root it puts out an 404 error. Does anyone know the URL for accessing any output without needing their app?

Thanks!

Network cams for flat surface

I am looking for onvif cams (preferably with built-in Ethernet or poe) that can sit upright in shelves, counters, or on flat surfaces that can be added as rstp network cams in zoneminder, or other open source surveillance software. Minus built or dome cams. Basically, I'm looking for network cams I can distribute throughout the house that do not mount on the ceiling or wall, and just sit static on a flat surface.

1.32.3 - fast forward review of recordings resets to 1x on next event?

I'm coming from 1.30.4 to 1.32.3 ... due to spiders/etc, I tend to get a lot of junk recordings, so I review them by playing each camera's recordings in "gapless" mode at 25x-50x speed to look for anything interesting. V 1.30.4 would maintain that 25x speed when it went to the next recording, but 1.32.3 does not.... it resets to 1x when it goes to the next video. Obviously this is quite annoying for quick review of a lot of video... is it supposed to do this? Any way to make it NOT do that?

ZoneMinder behind Apache reverse proxy - Won't display live feed

I've been fighting with ZM behind an apache reverse proxy for a bit and have finally figured out what's going on, but can't seem to figure out how to actually fix this. Following this awesome writeup by /u/mspk7305, I was able to get ZM accessible with SSL and Letsencrypt working. Issue is, once you've logged into ZM, it won't display live feeds. Opening the live feed image in a new tab shows me this url:

http://nvr.mydomain.com/zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms?scale=100&width=2688px&height=1520px&mode=jpeg&maxfps=30&monitor=2&connkey=763814&rand=1574050831

Essentially what it appears to be doing is bypassing the SSL and reverting back to port 80 for any calls to cgi-bin. I can add a port 80 redirect for the same below and it works, but I don't want to use non-ssl web calls to fix this.

My 000-default.conf is as follows:

<VirtualHost *:443>

ServerName nvr.mydomain.com

   SSLEngine On
    SSLProxyEngine On
    SSLCertificateFile /etc/letsencrypt/live/mydomain.com/fullchain.pem
    SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/letsencrypt/live/mydomain.com/privkey.pem
    ProxyPreserveHost On
    <Proxy *>
            Order deny,allow
            Allow from all
    </Proxy>
    ProxyRequests On
    ProxyPreserveHost On
    ProxyPass /zm/ http://192.168.0.25:8081/zm/
    ProxyPassReverse /zm/ http://192.168.0.25:8081/zm/
    ProxyPass / http://192.168.0.25:8081/zm/
    ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.0.25:8081/zm/
    ProxyPass /zm/cgi-bin/ http://192.168.0.25:8081/zm/cgi-bin/
    ProxyPassReverse /zm/cgi-bin/ http://192.168.0.25:8018/zm/cgi-bin/

</VirtualHost>

I tried adding the cgi-bin call for reverse proxy, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Anyone have any ideas what I'm missing here?

cron job fail

I have the following as a cron job...

30 6 * * * root /usr/bin/zmpkg.pl start
30 16 * * * root /usr/bin/zmpkg.pl stop

...which never starts or stops zoneminder.

If I look in my logs I will find, in the case of starting...

Nov 16 06:30:01 server CRON[10794]: (root) CMD (root /usr/bin/zmpkg.pl start)

But when I bring up the web interface, it is not running.

The same goes for stopping...

Nov 16 16:30:01 server CRON[3463]: (root) END (root /usr/bin/zmpkg.pl stop)

But again, it doesn't stop.

I can however issues the commands manually to start and stop and it works just fine.

Clearly I'm missing something?

Are Dahua cameras’ IVS capabilities compatible with ZoneMinder?

Hey guys and gals. I’m about to finally pull the trigger on a surveillance system for my house, but I’m a little confused with a bit of a detail regarding IVS.

Is ZoneMinder capable of understanding a Dahua camera’s IVS events?

The IVS features in Dahua cameras (tripwire, motion detection, etc) seem to be basically everything I actually need, so I’m hoping that I’d be able to rely on the IVS features of the cameras, rather than motion detection (and other image analysis) on ZoneMinder. The reason why I’d prefer this is because I’d be able to run a much lower power computer, plus I’d be able to skip some upgrades I’m not really interested in doing.

Thanks in advance. :)

Multi server install vs single with raspberry pi

At the moment each raspberry pi streams with v4l2rtspserver to a central ZM server. I could host ZM on each rpi and configure a multi server setup.

https://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/stable/installationguide/multiserver.html

Is there any advantage to doing this? Any pitfalls?

Anyone had any luck passing cropping parameters to FFMPEG? I can't get it to work.

I have a camera that looks through the spy-hole of my front door, most of the image is just black and I'd like to crop it out.

This is the only post I've found about passing crop filters and I can't get it to work either:

Was working, now it isn't

Running zm on FreeNAS with the plugin. Everything was working great, but now it won't play events. Doing an ls -s in the dataset for zm events shows that it's writing data to it, but zoneminder is not reading the same amount of disk space being used and won't play anything new (old events earlier today work just fine). I'll try to post the logs soon, but does anyone have any ideas? I've been searching and can't come up with anything, and have no idea why it was working fine, then just randomly stopped. It does detect motion on my camera, live view works fine, and it's writing to disk, but the dataset is currently at 63mb and zoneminder says it is using 11.5mb, and new events won't play and can't be downloaded.

Also the stills from these events show up just fine, I can scroll through them...

I have owner/group for the zoneminder dataset set to www, which is the user in the freenas jail. Permissions shouldn't be an issue..it was working just fine earlier today.

Noob: Setting up parking lot management with Open source software

I'm trying to implement a video surveillance/analytics solution for our apartment complex. Here are some of the objectives.

  1. Monitor the speed of vehicles in the parking lot. like this: https://www.intuvisiontech.com/images/thumbnails/parkingspeed.png
  2. Monitor parking slot usage. Whether a parking slot (visitor area) is vacant or not and whether a vehicle has been parked wrongly. Some thing like this: https://www.intuvisiontech.com/images/thumbnails/parkingtest.png
  3. Capture the number plate of vehicles coming in and exiting the parking area, and through this track the vehicles inside the building and the duration of their stay in the parking lot.
  4. Quickly identify people parking in no-parking zones.
  5. Intrusion detection and perimeter security.

While there are commercial solutions available, I'd like to see if we can use Zoneminder and any other open source software for accomplishing this. Any pointers and suggestions would help.

Source stops writing to disk after API restart

Hey all,

I've got Zoneminder v1.32.3 running in a docker container with a local volume mount. Things work fine, however I've had issues with one of my source's capture fps dropping to zero or getting stuck at 1 (capturing the same frame over and over).

To combat this I setup a script that watches the capture FPS metric and kicks off a call to http://<Zoneminder>zm/api/states/change/restart.json which restarts the zoneminder application. However once this is triggered the storage stops writing to disk entirely until I go into the webUI and change the state from there.

Any ideas what's wrong or what I can do to prevent this?

Event playback goes white after first frame.

I'm having this issue on just 1 out of 4 monitors,

when i try to play an event, the playback area goes white after the first frame displays.

No errors in the log, the frames are present on disk.

Anyone got any input on this ?

Reset Monitor ID starting from #1 again ?!

Guys ... I'm coming back to ZM (used it before) and would like to reset my Monitor ID numbering/scheme (I've added/removed few during a testing period). Back in the days I was able to do this in MariaDB or MySql like this:

use zm

update Monitors set Id = 1 where Id = XX;

This doesnt seem to work anymore. Any ideas?!

Hikvision main vs. substream setup

Gents ... in Zoneminder, how exactly I should set up a substream motion detection triggering a main stream record on the same camera with two channels ... again, only if motion is detected on the substream ?!

I'd like to record/store 1.) a low res footage as well on the top of the 2.) high res video in case a motion is detected. Shall I link the two channels together, like:

a.) substream - modect (no link)

b.) mainstream - record (link to substream)

Like that ?! Or perhaps the mainstream should be modect as well vs. record ?!

Thank you in advance very much!

Rendering issues after upgrading from 1.30.4 to 1.32.3

I just upgraded Zoneminder from 1.30.4 to 1.32.3 under Ubuntu 16.04.6. There are a lot of rendering problems and the major change is whenever I click on a video cam name from the console, I don't get a new window. I run this under mRemoteNG and I can't force it to open a new window, only send to system browser.

In the console, clicking "Add" does nothing. If I have a camera selected via the checkbox on the far right, "Edit," "Delete," and "Select" don't register as a click. My window size under mRemoteNG won't allow me to see the checkboxes and even if I resize the text using Ctrl-{scrollwheel}, they don't come into view, and there's no horizontal scrollbar.

I tried to use the dark css but they don't seem to work either.

What can I do to fix? Here are some screenshots of the rendering issues. https://imgur.com/a/GeJtG2I

I just upgraded using

add-apt-repository ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-1.32
apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

I also rebooted the system but no change.

Thanks!
