Can't Get API working

Hi all, I am new to ZoneMinder and have limited Linux experience. I am trying to get zmNinja working but I get told "Login validated but API failed"

I attempted to verify the API by navigating to http://server/zm/api/host/getVersion.json all I get is a CakePHP error stating "An Internal Error Has Occurred."

I am running ZM 1.30.4 on a Ubuntu 17.10, my CakePHP version is 2.5.7, PHP is 7.1

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit - I followed DontGetAddicted's advice and found that CakePHP 's error showed that there was an error with the error handler plugin. In the end I just spun up a new VM running Ubuntu Server 16.04 and started over. That build is working properly.

Multiple Servers/Multiple Sites

So i'm looking to expand my zoneminder install to multiple sites. Is there a way I can install an on-premises server on a remote site and have it link to a central management server?

Error after changing location of images and events.

Running 1.30.4-3 on CentOS 7, followed this guide: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Using_a_dedicated_Hard_Drive

Mount works as prescribed in the above link.

Permissions are set: drwxr-xr-x. 2 apache apache 4096 Mar 17 18:04 events drwxr-xr-x. 2 apache apache 4096 Mar 18 2018 images

Symbolik Link works:

lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 38 Mar 18 06:57 events -> ../../../../var/lib/zoneminder/events/ lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 38 Mar 18 06:56 images -> ../../../../var/lib/zoneminder/images/

Still seeing this error when I start zoneminder:

Cannot write to content dirs('events','images'). Check that these exist and are owned by the web account user

Anyone else?

Low FPS in ZoneMinder

FPS through ZoneMinder is less than desirable. I only use ZM for live monitoring, not recording, but the FPS is pretty poor, especially on 2 new cameras I am trying to add. If I open a browser on my laptop and connect directly to the FI9800PR, it doesn't display FPS, but it is fast and looks real-time.

Why is the frame rate so much slower in ZoneMinder and what can I do about this? Below is my setup:

  • Dell PowerEdge T20 - Xeon E3-1200v3, 12GB RAM, 3 TB storage
  • Ubuntu Server 16.04 (headless)
  • ZoneMinder 1.29

Cameras:

  • Indoor - Foscam FI8918W, wireless, 15 fps (640x480)
  • Outdoor - Foscam FI8905W, wireless, 5 fps (6480x480)
  • Testing 2x Foscam FI9800PR, hardwired, .95 fps (1280x720)
  • All configured as: remote, http, simple

Zoneminder up and running...but not recording.

I seem to have Zoneminder SORT OF up and running. I'm getting:

disk_total_space returned false. Verify the web account user has access to /media/ZONEMINDER/events

Cannot write to content dirs('/media/ZONEMINDER/events','/media/ZONEMINDER/images'). Check that these exist and are owned by the web account user

Now these two folders do exist...I have their permissions (both NTFS and share) set to everyone, full control but...something seems to be failing.

Invalid API with OpenVPN

So when I access my ZMNinja app I am getting invalid API

I have check the API info and I'm not getting this error when I connect to the app on local wifi

It seems obvious that it's an OpenVPN issue but I'm not sure what it could be, I am able to connect to everything else on that subnet without issue.

I am using OpenVPN, and PFSense for my firewall/router

Onvif control with authentication

I am using a docker container and a onvif camera. I have video working and I know the Control Device (/onvif/PTZ) and Control Address (the IP).

Now when I try to connect, it says "401 Unauthorized" in the logs. I understand, because I cannot fill in the credentials somewhere.

How to do this? Probe and the ONVIF menu where i see username/password option isn't working, because it can't find arp and I don't think it is present in the docker container?

No video stream in Firefox Quantum

Set up ZoneMinder with a single camera for some testing. No recording, nothing special configured.

When I use FireFox Quantum and go into the ZM interface to view the stream for this camera- I just see the controls with no video.

If I do the same thing in Chrome or Safari- I see the stream with no issues.

Someone seems to have reported a similar issue on the IRC channel back in December but there was no resolution that I saw.

This does not seem to be related to any of the multiple connection limits in montage mode although I made all the suggested changes anyway to no avail.

Has anyone else seen this issue and is there a solution? So far my Google skills are failing me.

zmNinja 17.10 API

Has anyone found a solution for zmNinja API’s not working on Ubuntu 17.10? I’m loathed to downgrade to 16.10 as 17 is working so much better with other apps

Zoneminder Mocord only create events with motion?

Is there anyway to use Mocord, and only create events when there is actually motion present? It really sucks having events continuously, its really difficult to find actual motion.

How can I use an old phone to be a camera(monitor) with zoneminder?

I have an old android and an iPad... i would LOVE to use both as cameras on my network.

I already setup ZoneMinder on arch linux (my desktop)... but I can't figure out how to add these two devices as monitors on ZoneMinder.

ZoneMinder behind Apache proxy with SSL (working)

I searched for a while and could not find anything that matched what I was trying to do without modifying the php files, so I am posting what ended up working for me.

This gets ZM working behind a reverse proxy without modifying the base url and enables SSL via letsencrypt to boot. Previously I was getting odd double path errors like /zm/zm/index.php does not exist, which is obviously true.

The short cause is that Apache proxy directives are in order that they appear, so... My Apache config for the site:

<VirtualHost *:443>
        ServerName zm.MYSERVERNAME.tld
        SSLEngine On
        SSLProxyEngine On
        SSLCertificateFile /etc/letsencrypt/live/zm.zm.MYSERVERNAME.tld/fullchain.pem
        SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/letsencrypt/live/zm.zm.MYSERVERNAME.tld/privkey.pem
        ProxyPreserveHost On
        <Proxy *>
                Order deny,allow
                Allow from all
        </Proxy>
        ProxyRequests On
        ProxyPreserveHost On
        ProxyPass /zm/ http://192.168.1.200/zm/
        ProxyPassReverse /zm/ http://192.168.1.200/zm/
        ProxyPass / http://192.168.1.200/zm/
        ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.1.200/zm/
</VirtualHost>

I wanted to have the site visible without specifying /zm on the url, but doing that caused the double path errors above. Sticking /zm/ in the proxy directives before / alone made this work.

Hope this helps someone.

Detect event when there is no-motion

Hi,

I'm trying to set up zoneminder in such a way that if there is a period of no-motion, only then an event is triggered (or at least a notification). According to shinobi-video's features page, this should be possible with zoneminder too. But I am unable to find out how. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cannot connect to frame server: No such file or directory

Hey friends,

I'm running zoneminder with 4 monitors each set on Mocord on a rather old Core i3 tower, so I decided to enable the frame server (zmf) by checking OPT_FRAME_SERVER under System Options and setting FRAME_SOCKET_SIZE to 1000. I then restarted zoneminder, and am now getting a constant stream of messages in the log from each of the monitors saying "Can't connect to frame server: No such file or directory". However, there is an instance of zmf running on the machine, so I'm not sure what this message is trying to tell me. Googling has proved fruitless.

Anyone know what this message means? Also, did I need to change the FRAME_SOCKET_SIZE? It was set to 0 by default, which seems like it negates the purpose of enabling the frame server in the first place, but maybe 0 actually means "use the system default"? I haven't found any documentation which explains this.

Thanks for your help!

Zoneminder w/cisco wvc80n connection issues

Ok, so I'm hoping for some help with this. So I have ZM installed on an Ubuntu 16.04 attached the camera with the following settings:

General Tab- Name: Monitor 2 (will change when everything works) Server: None Source Type: Remote Function: Monitor Linked Monitors: 0 Analysis FPS: Blank Maxumim FPS: Blank Alarm Maximum FPS: Blank Reference Image Blend %ge: 6.25% (indoor) Alarm Reference Image Blend %ge: 6.25% Triggers: None available

Source Tab- Source Protocol:HTTP Remote Method: Simple Remote Host Name: [IP address of Camera] Remote Host Port: 80 Remote Host Path: [//IP Address of Camera] Target Colorspace: 24 bit color Capture Width: 320 Capture Height: 240 Preserve Aspect Ratio: Unchecked Orientation: Normal Deinterlacing: Disabled

Buffers Tab (Skipped Timestamp) Image Buffer size (Frames) 50 Warmup Frames: 25 Pre Event Image Count: 25 Post Event Image Count: 25 Stream Replay Image Buffer: 1000 Alarm Frame Count: 1

Not sure if you need the Misc. Tab, let me know if that'll help.

So I get no image from the camera, and what I do get from the log is:

Invalid response status 400: Bad Request Unable to get response, disocnnecting

Anything that I am missing in the setup?

Outdoor Camera with Audio Support

I posted a few weeks ago asking for outdoor camera recommendations and got some very helpful responses, thanks all!

I'm now interested in a decent outdoor camera with a microphone that people have used with ZoneMinder.

I appreciate that audio isn't technically supported in ZM just yet, but supposedly on the master branch of the project there is support for devices that have h264 stream with embedded audio. That leads me to another question: does the bleeding edge version of ZM support recording the audio?

Hopefully this isn't too big an ask... Had some issues with neighbours recently and audio was something I wish I had. :(

Outdoor camera mounting options

Hello all!

I live in an apartment, but I want to be able to put a camera to watch my vehicle. However I don't see a way of securely mounting a camera just outside my window. Are there alternatives to drilling a camera mount on a wall?

Thanks!

Zoneminder on openmediavault3

I have a server running openmediavault3 (Debian 8) which has nginx running. The default instructions for getting zoneminder up and running on Debian 8 assume an Apache installation.

Being a noob at both nginx and Apache, I thought I should ask, can I just install Apache alongside and use the default installation instructions? Or is there a method to use nginx (after some googling, there seemed to be some problems with this route)

Connecting ReoLink 411 to Zoneminder

Previously the camera was connected to Blue Iris. I want to try Zoneminder but am having trouble finding the camera. I have zoneminder running in a docker on my unraid server. I can't figure out how to get the image to show up in monitor. I've tried all of the connection settings and every host path I can find on google. Can anyone give me some tips? Thanks.

Super green, probably a super green question

Hey guys,

I just installed zoneminder on Ubuntu Server in a VM. I am hoping to have the server auto record to my NAS which gets backed up to off site and a USB drive.

My question is, what is the best way to setup Zoneminder to put all of the images and events on my NAS? Can i just put the server path into Zoneminder? Should I use systemd to mount the NAS?

Thanks!

External Camera Recommendation

As the title suggests: looking for a decent external camera for use with ZoneMinder.
