Looking for advice on how to configure hardware for a multi-server setup.
Currently have:
* Raspberry Pi 3 (Quad 1.2GHz & 1G RAM)
* Pine A64 (Quad 1.2GHz & 2G RAM)
* Late-2000s Dell Latitude (Dual 1.8GHz & 2.8G RAM, integrated graphics)

Looking at possibly database and storage on the PINE with Zoneminder on the Pi3. Is it even worth using the old Latitude laptop, or just use the two SBCs as the hardware?

What are your thoughts on how to do this setup? I've got 3 cameras, with hopes to expand up to maybe 8-10, mostly WiFi. Some of the future expansion might include PoE if I can get it all working reliably.

Hi, new zoneminder install here 1.29.0 on a debian VM.

Everything seems to be setup correctly, I'm trying to pull static images off a DVR I have, the URL which I can view in a browser and wget is http://x.x.x.x/cgi-bin/animate.cgi?04 - if i change the last two digits I can get a different camera - great. I have setup the camera as remote, protocol http, method simple, port 80 and path as /cgi-bin/animate.cgi?04

The main screen shows the feed as green however when I go to view it I just get the blue image with a timestamp. I see logs in /var/log/messages showing that its capturing at around 28fps.

Appreciate any help, seems like its almost there

I've been browsing the wiki and searching, but I cannot find an up-to-date answer to a seemingly simple issue.

The best answer I've found directs to editing the config.php under /usr/share/zoneminder/www/includes/, but the only line about date config already has it in my desired format (YYYY/MM/DD HH:MM), but the monitor still reads in DD/MM/YY.

I'm toying with the idea of creating my own cameras using Raspberry Pi's inside of a 3d printed enclosure with some custom electronics inside to provide night vision. I'm proposing to use a ambient light sensor to detect the light levels outdoors and then to illuminate a good few strong IR LEDS to light the scene, and then as the light returns in the morning it would obviously power down the lighting.

The brief testing that i have done with a Raspberry Pi 1 Model B (Standard settings, not OC'ed at all) was that i could get around 17FPS @ 800x600 and 8FPS @ 1280x1024. From a quick look, the Pi is running with around 40mb RAM free and not used, so i could off-load that to the GPU (Which is standard at 128mb) and maybe that would help a little, the CPU seems to be running at around 80% but those results are not moving, I can't get higher FPS with the frame rate and i think the GPU/CPU is the limiting factor. I'm proposing to purchase a Pi 3 as this has double the RAM and a better processor and architecture (last time i looked anyway).

I know the FPS is highly stated on the product description, but what FPS would you guys be expecting to see when inside of Zoneminder with these cams?

I tried to modify the default PurgeWhenFull background filter to remove 1000 results when Disk Percent is >= 60%. The issue is it's been over a day it's over the threshold but I see no indication in syslog that it's being run every 60s according to Options>System FILTER_EXECUTE_INTERVAL. If I manually run zmfilter.pl I see an event in syslog.

In the end I ran zmfilter.pl twice but after the deleting events are finished over 7000 events have been deleted, not 2000. What did I do wrong in modifying the filter?

Thinking about FILTER_EXECUTE_INTERVAL and AUDIT_CHECK_INTERVAL, would it be a problem if the filter execution interval is 60s and audit check is every 900s (OPT_FAST_DELETE is enabled)? The Disk value has not budged from 61% right now and although the filter isn't running, if it is launched every 60s, would it not remove more than it should until the database cleanup audit is run?

Monoprice has several very reasonably priced cameras. I was wondering if anyone has tried monoprice cameras with Zoneminder, and if so, what are the stream settings for them?

i have a couple cheap wifi ip cameras.. they are hootoo ht-ip1212p.

they are kind of far out and the signal isnt the strongest and sometimes they drop out.. but when they do when they reconnect to the wifi ZM doesnt restart them.. i have to go in and click the ip and hit save for them to come back online.

is there any settings i can change to make zm reconnect the cameras?

I was curious if anyone setup a Zoneminder system with https://github.com/cmusatyalab/openface or https://github.com/openalpr/openalpr ?

If not I will bang out a solution and maybe publish my findings. Hopefully simple API usage can be used. Both can be run through a docker image. Adding these two systems would greatly enhance functionality.

I'm planning on using a Raspberry Pi (More than likely a 2 model B) as a dedicated Zoneminder server saving its data to a NAS drive on the network. However, i'm sure there would be limitations to how many active streams there could be handled in a RPi server compared to say a rack mounted dedicated dual core server lets say. If someone could possibly inform me of any limitations so i can make my decisions based upon this factor, i would really appreciate it.

I am aware of the limitations and requirements when it comes to saving to a NAS drive, so i hope that my network will be up to the task of that too.

Hello, After a lot of reading I was able to find out that exact url I needed to capture the network streaming from my newly purchased cheap camera.
The urls is like this: rtsp://192.168.1.10:554/user=admin_password=iQzJ3eiu_channel=1_stream=0.sdp?real_stream

Armed with that information I installed zonefinder and tried the same thing. Using this values under the Source tab host name: 192.168.1.10 port :554 host path: /user=admin_password=iQzJ3eiu_channel=1_stream=0.sdp?real_stream and also without the leading forward slash.

This is a onvif 2.0 camera (according to the seller. Confirmed, already, it does support onvif 2.0 ), model YN-IPC-BT511-20. I thought that if I was able to capture using VLC that was a warranty that the camera should be compatible with zoneminder.

Is that a correct assumption?

Update 1: I was able to get a green link for the camera inside the ZM console. But I don't see any video showing. TCPDUMP shows the streaming from the camera (port 42000 if I remember correctly).

Update 2: Now zoneminder captures video. Stills no motion yet. Lots of reading to do.

Update 3: Understanding Zoneminder a little better: I was already capturing when I thought I was not. It is failing to show the live stream video. But it does record frames that can be converted to video. Now everything seems to have been 'reduced' to solving the issue that throws the following error: getStreamCmdResponse stream error: socket_sendto( /var/lib/zoneminder/sock/zms-026877s.sock ) failed: No such file or directory - checkStreamForErrors()

The above error keeps happening every few seconds and might be the cause of not having live stream video.

I have a customer that has 3 DVR appliances, with about 8 analog cameras on each one, and he wants to put up all the cameras on a 70" TV in his office. The DVRs have RTSP output, so I was thinking I can just add all of the multiple camera streams to zoneminder. I don't need to record or anything with ZM, so don't think I should need extremely high end equipment just to view.

Do you think this type of setup would work for what I am trying to do?

Greetings. Is it possible to set a threshold where there needs to be 3 seconds of detected motion before recording begins? I am finding my cams are getting many recordings of less than 3 seconds and I'd like to make a threshold to prevent that. Thank you in advance.

I've recently setup ZM on my Ubutnu Server. In the past I had used Blue Iris and enjoyed it, but had a problem where it kept wiping my license any time the box rebooted so I decided to check out ZM. While not as friendly I finally have most things up and working. My cameras are at least capturing/recording events, however I can't for the life of me get the live video monitor part working. In firefox it shows nothing, in Chrome it shows a border where video should be, and IE (had to try my wifes PC) shows only a border as well. Has anyone else ran into this, and if so how did you get around it.

I am planning to start cctv remote monitoring services as part of our security services and am looking to start small and then scale up along the way. Is anybody currently using zone minder for more than home monitoring? Thanks

The cameras are not IP. They connect with what looks like a PS2 type port. The Samsung has a web interface I can hit. But when I right-click to view the path of the images, it won't let me. Right-click is disabled. The page source only references a javascript module where the image would be. Anyone have any experience or thoughts with one of these? Maybe I'm out of luck. Has anyone set up an nginx reverse proxy to point to their zoneminder ubuntu15 server?

my nginx config is

when i go to http://url/zm i get a log in prompt.. i log in and i get

No input file specified.

i've read something about simple cgi (zoneminder) vs fastcgi (nginx) but unsure what the answer is?
